Why couldn’t have they just made it progressively banked (22/23-25 degrees) track like Las Vegas (17-20) & Homestead-Miami (18-20) if they’re so worried about the aging of the pavement and it being one groove? Why does it need rebanked from 24 to 28?

How soon they forget

The track was falling apart with dangerous chunks of pavement coming up off of the surface and was a danger to car and spectator
It was impossible to dry the track for all of the weepers
Almost impossible to pass it was such a one laner and the lack of attendance reflected the boring races being held there
It was yet another 1.5 "cookie cutter design" that many R-F experts couldn't wait to troll on about, but now that it's gone it has suddenly been elevated to GOAT status.
This is so easy lol
 
I think Atlanta is going to be the great unknown, I may have said this in the winter. I’m not leaning toward one way about it really, just eager to see how it races. If it’s great I’ll say it is, if it sucks I have a feeling there are some on here that are chomping at the bit to say it sucks and will beat me to it. I’ll be tuning in for sure this Sunday

Hell, they are already saying that it sucks before a wheel is turned...maybe they will elevate themselves to "expert" told ya so status if they can twist it enough.
 
I'm willing to give it a chance. I'm not against reconfiguring Atlanta into a superfast high-banked track but I don't like the reduced hp/added df for this weekend.
It's essentially a 60%-scale Daytona now so it will interesting to see if they're gonna be in a pack the whole time or if some drivers can separate themselves from the field.
I'm actually looking forward to the race, there are a lot of unknowns about it.

A few months ago, drivers’ lives were at risk because car unsafe. Obviously unsafe.

As I recall, in the complete absence of any actual evidence, your eyes were providing all the information required to make this determination.

I don’t think you’re wrong but I’ll leave you with this: I think I’d like to see how Atlanta is raced first before I make an opinion. I think for me personally it’s better to make an informed opinion than a reactionary one
 
Some of you need a sarcasm update to your personality. Do I like the new Atlanta track? Nope. There was nothing wrong with the track they raced on 25 years ago. But they changed it and screwed it up. Now they've gone a step further. I hope this isn't Texas 2.0.

I -think- that's an ammunition carrier for a howitzer. Since they aren't expected to be near the front, they're lightly armored and rarely armed.

That's relatively small caliber; possibly an anti-aircraft gun, but those usually those have more barrels. Could be an anti-tank weapon; wouldn't want to lose one of those ;)

If it's an armed troop carrier, equivalent to our Bradleys, they didn't give the grunts much room.
 
It looks like Darlington with a plate track package, I KNOW the car in video is VERY slow, I'm referring to the track. The dogleg looks fairly irrelevant compared to previous pictures. I muted the video as audio is panful.

Just my uniformed opinion.

Exactly what Info were you trying to glean from this video? You came to the conclusion that the dogleg is "irrelevant" from some joe blow doing a racing experience at 60 mph? You said it, you got the uninformed part right.

I dont see Darlington AT ALL and how is the dogleg irrelevant from this picture? It looks exactly the same.

Sounds like an interesting educated guess.

Teams will run the superspeedway engine and aero packages along with the lighter duty brakes since the new surface and banking will be fast. While we should expect some similarities to Daytona International Speedway and Talladega Superspeedway, there are likely to still be some surprises based on the nature of the surface and all the unknown factors.

We can expect some big runs once cars get together in groups, but we shouldn’t expect anyone to try the top initially until they feel the track out based on some of the feedback from the Goodyear tire test that happened there. The big difference between Daytona and Talladega is that drivers will likely have to lift as they get closer to the car in front of them; otherwise, they will experience a tight condition from being so close to the car ahead.


In addition to the aerodynamic challenges, there will be mechanical grip challenges for teams as the corners at Atlanta are tighter than the bigger tracks of Daytona and Talladega. Drivers will have speed, but they will have a challenge on corner entry as they make their way around the track, so we’re likely to see a combination of superspeedway style racing with the addition of some off-throttle time.

They moved the wall out toward the track to reduce the angle. That's what I was referring to about the tri-oval/dogleg being irrelevant as a huge concern. The original pictures were terrifying to me.
