Attention NASCAR : Listen to your fans !

Discussion in 'NASCAR chat' started by Danny Ray Bennett, Jun 2, 2019.

  1. 1) Go back to the rule of weighing the car and driver together to achieve minimum weight.

    2) Go to the Delaware Restart System to allow drivers the lane they want to start in. To keep it simple, just the cars on the same lap.

    3) On Cautions, re-align the cars in the order that they were running at the time of the caution, with some rules, Teams that took on gas only, no tires get to move up, those taking on just 2 tires move up, then those taking on 4 tires, teams making repairs are last, again these are lead lap cars.
Cars that were on lead lap that stayed out are the first to choose, then gas only, 2 tire changes, 4 tire changes, then repaired cars, then cars a lap or more down.
This drastically reduces the danger to the pit crews and the officials on pit road. Races should be won on the track and not in the pits by teams having a split second faster pit stop, usually by leaving a lug nut loose, or leaving it flat off, or by pushing the speed limits and or driving hazardously, cars coming into their pit having to dodge cars coming out of their pits.
3A) Follow current rules during green flag pit stops. Not too many cars pit at the same time and pit lane is not as crowded.

    4) Raise the prize money for the cars in the back so that the field can get back to 43 cars. Is it better to have 5 or 6 "Start and Park" teams or lower car counts ? The "Start and Park" teams get some valuable experience and if they could afford the tires I bet they would race more laps.

    5) Go back to paying money and points to drivers that lead laps, and lead the most laps.

    6) Tires: Limit the number of sets each team can use during a race. Teams with freaky chassis set ups that are fast but wear tires out quickly will have to work more on chassis balance, manage tire wear and tire usage better. I mean using 16 to 20 SETS of tires per car per race is NUTS. 64 to 80 tires per car per race is stupid ! Basically the race teams are saying that these tires are no good or they would not change them every chance they get, not the best advertising for the tire company.
These days if a team puts on 4 new tires and a caution comes out again only 10 laps later, they will pit and put on 4 more new tires. This is high dollar, well financed teams BUYING wins.
Racing needs to get back to driver skills.

    7) I like the " stage" racing, but the winner needs to get more points for winning and should get a financial bonus on top of that. Make it more meaningful to win stages.

    8) Nascar needs to rethink its Championship Playoffs to include Daytona and Indy.
Make Daytona the first and last race on the schedule !

  3. If you have something to say, say it , do not roll around like a ball with no direction of which way to go,
I still believe that NASCAR officials and some race team members read this forum. They may like my ideas, they may not like them, but it may make them think !
Everyone has to admit they are going the wrong way. It started a long time ago, even Benny Parsons commented on how NASCAR was betting its future on getting new fans at the cost of losing their long time loyal fans. I think NASCAR made their decisions on short term profits and now they are in trouble. Once you start losing your fan base, its hard to get them back, and sponsors and advertisers adjust what they pay by the amount of the number of people watching.
Taking tens of thousands of grand stands seats out is not good business, and even at that the remaining stands are not full like they should, yes, there are some exceptions, but those are very few.
But looking at NASCARS history, it seems they always turn their back to the ones that supported them.

Stages, chases, and cookie cutting is what led to the collapse. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to fix the problem, but a person willing to swallow their pride is definitely warranted.

I support #2, wouldn't mind #1, and partially agree on #5 (points for most laps led, not a single lap). #6 to a degree I'd be fine with. The rest are not in line with my preferences.

I'm with you on 1 and 2. 3 is a scoring nightmare reminiscent of what the old IRL tried with timing lights to regulate car intervals under caution.

    So there's another 2 cents. I'm gone.

I am personallies in favor of something like boxing rounds to replace the stages (card carrying grid girls would be essential at the beginning of all rounds).

Do 15 rounds per race, example 27 laps per round during the World 600, with a maximum of 20 minutes allowed per round (card carrying grid girls would be essential at the beginning of all rounds).
I would also add in the TKO provision stating if a driver clinches the most laps led, or rounds that field positions would be frozen, and the race would be instantly called at that point (card carrying grid girls would be essential during the TKO announcement or explanation).

So many glorious P L A Y O F F implications would be at stake and great dramas even when someone dominates and a TKO is needed to stop the suffering . The second place car and the other secondary descendents throughout would have to strategize for the best finishing position based on the estimated TKO occurrence.

(Read the above paragraph without breathing to ensure it all sounds like a long one word paragraph. Also escalate it a couple of octaves to get into the Steve Letarte, Jeff Burton mode.

If that aint enough try to achieve a BeeGees demaled falsetto to experience the full urgency ).

The Delaware restart would eliminate all restart excitement for the lead. The leader would immediately have a clean air advantage.

I believe they have been weighing cars for years. Lately it was said that light weight Danica would get more ballast in the lower frame rail than anybody in the cup series. Kahne was probably a close second.

You're right, thanks, and it appears only drivers weighing well in excess of 220 lbs are at an actual 'disadvantage'. As if weighing that much and trying to drive 400-500 mile races isn't already a severe hindrance.

So yeah, Cup teams had 7, 7 sets of tires for the race today at Pocono, they had 3 for practice, and they got one set for qualifying.

NASCAR has been in fact cutting back the allotment of tires teams get, which makes your #6 point, pointless.

The leader has THAT already. At least with the Delaware restart, the second place and fourth place cars wouldn't be hung out to dry in a useless lane, unable to take off after the leader.

Looking at the topic matter as a “whole”, I really think nascar has tried for years to please fans and give them what they all scream for.

They at least try. Not saying it always works well.

Obviously they cannot please every single fan, but it seems they have tried to address many topics that seem to be mostly talked/complained about... it’s rare to find anyone give them credit for it though.

Gotta be hard to be in their shoes, if I’m being honest.

I think this is more than a reasonable post. However if I may, no one was screaming for a Chase Points system then a playoffs. The scary part is if in the distant future they go back to the championship system that they used while NASCAR was soaring, I would bet my salary for a month that people would complain about that as well. Some of these fans you just cant make happy and thats a shame, if they would keep their mouths closed long enough maybe they'd find something they could enjoy about the current product instead of dismissing it every time there's a race on.

Thats the one thing nascar will not ‘move’ on, the playoff structure.

I have always thought, they probably have had legitimate discussions even in recent years about removing it... but in my own opinion, I think they’re simply holding strong to what they have.

Some fans really want it to go away and they’d probably be content with it after it went away... but I believe that there are many fans who scream for it to go away, and then would only scream louder at how boring the cup series is when it goes back to the traditional title structure...

Good racing can stand on its own feet, many series rely on the old system of counting up the points and crowning a champion. Gimmicks don't improve racing, they only insult the viewers.

The only way to save nascar is to convince some retired drivers to come out of retirement & back into the sport on some new teams full time.

Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, Dale Jr., Carl Edwards, Kasey Kahne, Matt Kenseth, Greg Biffle, Jamie McMurray, Bobby Labonte & Jeff Burton.

Give them some TRD engines & see if they have anything left in the tank.

That would be one of the lottery races like the Daytona 500 .... no, lets not do all that, one and done racers often win those. Double points for Martinsville and a guarantee of at least 30 cautions might be appealing ( no laps counted on cautions ) I demand to see some tore up cars at that race

I think he got Delaware and Cone restarts confused.

If we're going to do double file restarts in NASCAR, we should do it cone style. Give everyone a choice.

There are tracks where restarting second is a death sentence.
