So I have been following the rate the race thread and have been somewhat befuddled by the high scores for some of the races this season. Everyone has their own opinion which is great, but I thought it would be good to have a list of top 10 races to compare to so everyone is rating on the same scale.

So tell me your top 10 races of all time and then we can put a scale together on something we all agree on.

I don't have a full top 10 yet but some races that come to mind are;
2007 Daytona 500 with Harvick beating Martin by a few inches.
2003 at Darlington, Ricky Craven beats Kurt Busch by a few inches.
2001 at Atlanta, Harvick beats Gordon for first win after Sr. died.
2016 at Dover, Kenseth beats Larson
2004 Fall Richmond race, This was the first time the playoffs were implemented and this was the last race of the "regular season". Guys on the bubble were driving their butts off.
2013 at Cali, last lap shoot out between Lagano and Hamlin. They both wreck, Kyle Busch gets the win.

Cant' remember which year but there was a Dover race in the late 90s that had the top 2 or 3 leaders of the race wreck out in the last 20 laps because of blown engines, cut tires, or ran out of fuel. I need to research this one a little bit but it was definitely a crazy race.

Anyway, what are your top 10 or so.

Bristol '95 and '99 come to mind, Terry Labonte vs. Dale Earnhardt. Maybe not the best races ever, but they definitely stand out in my mind

Nothing wrong with the way we already do the rate the race thread.
Exactly everyone grades on their own scale of how they personally enjoyed a race. For example I never give lower then a 6 because any race is always a 6. Same as how others will always give a low grade to a plate race because that's their opinion on plate racing. There really is no universal scale that can be used, think about it we have a member here who really hates short tracks, it's all subjective.

Agreed, there is no wrong answer. I guess maybe I'm starting a different type of rate the race for next season or sometime down the line.
I prefer to have some kind of bar to judge how good or bad the racing has been over the course of a few years rather than just how people feel lately. Again, no wrong answers, just something different.

92 Hooters 500, 01 Pepsi 400, 96 Tyson HolleyFarms 400, 04 Ford 400 ( Homestead Finale), 98 Daytona 500, 97 Daytona 500, 85 Southern 500, 97 Southern 500 come to my mind....

'92 Hooters 500 at Atlanta. If I have to explain why, you'll benefit from Googling it.
That is the greatest race in NASCAR history and it wasn't really because of the on track product. It's really the beginning of the peak period of NASCAR that lasted till 2006.

Last years Martinsville race for sure. Was on my feet for the last 50 laps of that one, insanely good

The 2014 race at Watkins Glen. Marcos Ambrose and AJ Allmendinger's road course prowesses prevail over the rest of the field in a classic beat-and-bang kind of race to the finish, with Allmendinger winning and clinching a spot in the playoffs.

I couldn't agree more!!! I was there, had great seats. Pettys last race, Gordons first Cup start, Kulwicki won the title, Davey had it wrapped up with 64 laps to go, got caught up in a mess not of his making. What a day!!!

Here's my Top 10:

1. '92 Hooters 500 at Atlanta
2. '03 Darlington spring race
3. '15 Martinsville fall race
4. '93 Daytona 500
5. '95 Bristol night race
6. '01 Atlanta spring race
7. '02 Daytona 500
8. '11 Southern 500
9. '08 Richmond spring race
10. '94 Pepsi 400

I'll add a vote for the 97' Southern 500. Watching the 24 team struggle all day to keep up with a cranky car and trading paint for the win was pretty special. I'll also add a vote for the first Brickyard 400. Whatever you think of the event or what it has become, the atmosphere that day was just electric, and you just knew something special was going to happen. I'll never forget the roar that went up when Jeff went around Ernie the final time. Tony Stewart and Carl Edward's battle at Homestead was pretty wild. Seldom has so much rode on every single pass for position. Granted, it was a manufactured circumstance, but it was fun to watch. Harry Gant getting his fourth win in a row at Martinsville after getting crash damage was pretty interesting too. Not a Cup race, but the best race I EVER saw was the 1985 Michigan IROC race. Harry Gant and Terry Labonte put on a SHOW that day. Of all of the old IROC races to NOT be on Youtube.......:(

1988 Watkins Glen - Rudd vs Rusty
1988 Die Hard 500 - Schrader's 1st win, awesome ending!
1992 Winston - "One Hot Night" Allison vs Petty vs Sr.
1985 Summer 500 Pocono -3 wide finish
2000 Pocono 500 - Mayfield rattles Sr's cage
1992 Die Hard 500 - Irvan wins an absolute thriller

I also forgot the 1999 Goody’s Headache Powder 500 at Bristol, Jackman brought up 94 Brickyard 400 (I’ll add that to my list), 1995 Goody’s Headache Powder 500. I’m sure I’ll think of more.....
