I think it is a tie. Sprint has new NASCAR technologies. Winston had the no bull 5 and amazing souvenirs.

Winston. The Winston million. Helping bring NASCAR into the modern era. A name that sounds prestigious rather than like a corporate sponsor. The red and white walls. Many more things I'm forgetting.

I am so sick of Sprint yellow walls, Sprint commercials, Sprint Showdown, Sprint Unlimited, Sprint yellow splitters and spoilers for the chase, etc etc. They went way overboard if you ask me. We know who the sponsor is. But they've done TOO much where it's like look I am so sick of getting Sprint shoved down my throat that I will never ever be switching to that company.

I think NASCAR's done more for Sprint than Sprint has for NASCAR. I know a lot of people who only have Sprint phones because of NASCAR. I had Sprint/Nextel for a few years because you could listen to the NASCAR races live at the time and had leaderboards and all that stuff but I've used AT&T since.

The race view things you can get at the track are cool. As for most other technology, they came from Turner Sports, not Sprint/Nextel. Many of the things Sprint gets credit for were actually in place in 2003. And, anyone who uses RaceView or other NASCAR digital products can attest to the fact that there's been a decline in quality ever since NASCAR acquired digital rights from Turner Sports.

Turner Sports, not Sprint, brought NASCAR into the digital age. And, about 5-10 years ago, NASCAR really was a leader in terms of digital media presence compared to the other sports leagues. Now, they've fallen way behind.

It's a bad question, because there's no way in hell Winston could have it should have stayed on as sponsor for much longer. NASCAR would be hurting way worse right now if Winston was still sponsor. Nobody today wants to support the tobacco industry by watching their sponsored sport.

Winston even classed up Britney Spears.

Soon people will be complaining about a future soda sponsor, Mountain Dew, like the NYC soda tax.

Nextel/Sprint had a lot to do with the chase being implemented, for that reason alone I'll say Winston.

Don't think much of it. With a little luck, maybe the yellow stuff will go away. That'll be an improvement.

winston

sprint comes off as so corporate plus teh colors suck

i miss the old white and red billboards, the red and white nascaruniforms and miss winston
Tough comparison. There's no way to tell if Winston wouldn't be as corporate today as Sprint is. These days, most sponsors are.

WHen the sprint yellow banner pops up and makes me think there's a caution, I wish for their stock to drop just a little bit more
This. I don't ask much of a sponsor other than to pay the bills. I don't care about Winston's red and white vs. Sprint's yellow. But from Day One, that damn yellow banner popping up on the screen has caused me to think we're under caution. I'm indifferent to Sprint in general, but I'll celebrate the end of that bit of on-screen promotion. I don't care who the next sponsor is, but I hope its corporate colors are anything except yellow or green.

Sprint barring telecommunications providers from sponsoring racecars at the height of the mobile device boom is reason enough to make me hate Sprint.

Jeff Burton lost his primary sponsor because the brand changed names. And then, right after NASCAR literally ousted one of their most popular drivers' sponsors, the series title sponsor changed its brand name.

Sprint brought about the beginning of the era where NASCAR competed with its own teams and drivers for sponsorship and barred numerous sponsors from participating in the sport. And this happened in an economic decline, when teams were closing up shop.

Not to mention, Sprint/Nextel gave us the Chase.

Be gone with them.

what was the winston million?

was daytona, spring talladega, coca cola 600 nd souther 500?

i don't think it's so much the sponsor, it's who's making the rules, and Brian has not done as good a job as Bill. of course this is JMO. but as far as the sponsors themself, i think by a whole lot Winston.

is it themself or themselves?

Also, I miss the Winston Million and No Bull 5.

NASCAR needs a "Triple Crown" or "Grand Slam", officially.
Word.

The Century Poll posed this question last year and the results came back as the Daytona 500/Southern 500/Coke 600/Brickyard 400, with the Night Race at Bristol behind in fifth. I'd say that sounds about right.

I like how ARCA has a "Four Crown" and has a points system for just those four races. IDK, I just want to see NASCAR do something to make their majors stand out. Especially now that the Chase has made the regular season meaningless in a lot of ways.

Right now, IMO, the Homestead Bowl is bigger than the Daytona 500. In fact, I get more hyped now about the Indianapolis 500 than I do about the Daytona 500.

Switched to just "cup" and "junior sedan" a long time ago.........................

Winston by far.

And in regards to crown jewel races, I would love to see something like the No Bull 5 return with the winner of those races earning some extra bonus championship points.

Winston sponsored Nascar for 31 or 32 years. And the Winston Cup Series grew in popularity almost every year. The sky was the limit

Absolutely!! And I wonder how many remember when Lucky Strikes were sold in a green package? How many recall the motto: "Lucky Strike green goes to war!"

A great historical reminder. Lucky Strike green was a myth for advertising by saying the green was needed for the war effort when in fact it was not true. Lucky Strike changed the color of the pack from green to white, retaining the red bullseye, in order to appeal to women who were taking up smoking in large numbers during WWII.
But the myth notwithstanding, "Luckies" became quite a bit more popular. Back in the day, many of my friends who smoked, smoked "Luckies" and rolled them up in the sleeve of their tee shirts. The red bullseye could still be seen. Shades of Grease!
I liked the old myth better than the true story.

Sprint may be seen more favorably if they had been a sponsor under better leadership. Winston got lucky in that they got out just as the Idiot was taking over

This is probably true. Whether Sprint wanted the Chase or not, a non-idiotic President would have told them that it was a terrible idea.

NASCAR circa 2003 was also seen as a growing commodity. If Nextel wanted a Chase as a condition for sponsoring the series, France could've told them to piss up a rope. A lot of Sprint/Nextel's "failures" are on Brian France.

When Winston left the sport, NASCAR also should've come up with a permanent name for the championship that isn't tied to a sponsor. The NFL has the Lombardi Trophy, the MLB has the Commissioner's Trophy, and the NHL has the Stanley Cup. NASCAR is the only major sport where the championship itself has a corporate sponsor but that's a different rant.
