Blocking

Why is Kyle preparing to launch a snot rocket?

The only reaso. This is a big deal is because kyle was doing the blocking. If blaney had been doing the blocking people would be saying "look how bad he wanted the win!!"
tv
Anyone remember the 92 all star race?

Earnhardt ran petty all the way off the track down the backstretch but no one complains about that

I was thinking to myself why isn't blaney just dumping him. he must have felt pretty good about being able to get around him. in the end it was the right move because it didn't bring out a caution and a restart to have to deal with.
I thought the same. But I watched the end again a couple of times, Blaney's car was so much better at that point, he was able to get under Kyle at will so it was just a matter of time and the right opportunity. He/they all drove away from the 18 after they got by. The 18 was pretty much junk at that point, fading fast, and finished 9th

yeah they made Kanaan do a pass thru after he wrecked two cars in the pits and drove away. For a second I thought Nascar needs to do that. But then sanity returned and I remembered whenever you let the rule makers have an inch they take a mile and pretty soon you won't be racing anymore but rule following like they do in F-1

When it happened yesterday and now with this discussion it reminded me of what happened with Kenseth and Joey 2 years ago. Most were really upset with Joey on that move and loved seeing him wrecked a few weeks later.

Fast forward to now, what is the difference??? Almost everyone on here is/was screaming for Blaney to dump him at that point. Would we have been ok with Kyle retaliating a few weeks later? My feeling is no...Bush is hated, Kenseth not so much. Just seems to be a double standard amongst the fans as to who can do it, when they can do it, and who they can do it too.

Wrong for Joey to dump Matt...ok for Matt to retaliate. Perfectly fine for Blaney to have dumped Kyle. (For the record, I would have been fine with it too). Thoughts?

Busch was more flagrant with. the blocks yesterday, than Kenseth was.

I dont want Nascar to police the drivers. I do believe Kyle crossed the line yesterday and Blaney would have had every right to dump him.
Good on Blaney for staying composed and keeping his fenders clean. He made a wise choice.

It is called protecting the lead. Been part of stock car racing since day one.

Blocking is a case by case deal. Moving the blocker out of the way is one thing, wrecking him is another. I've seen drivers make their car wide (an invitation to be moved) and I've seen blockers running a driver up to the wall or down to the grass is probably bad manners (and retaliation might be more justified).

plenty of grey area there ..protecting the lead is one thing zig zagging all over the track like he was warming his tires was another.:D
Yep, he might as well have ordered some cement to eat.

I have never been in a discussion about blocking before but I can see I am in the minority on the issue as it just invites wrecks and and mayhem, IMO.

I don't remember Kenseth's blocking being as crazy as Kyle's was yesterday. Kyle was all over the place with his and almost took Ryan into the grass. Did that happen with the Matt and Joey one? If so I totally don't remember it.

Nope Kenseth was doing the usual type..taking away the aero line lap after lap. Logano bumped him a couple times and then he drove up under his quarter and loosened him up. Blaney didn't have a chance to do that..Kyle was swerving like a soccer mom going to an estate sale.

Kinda. The first block, Matt almost wrecked the two of them on the backstretch. The second time they were going past some lapped traffic and he chopped him up near the tri-oval wall.

Maybe, I just don't remember it being no where near as bad as how Kyle did yesterday. If so I would have understood. Surely since I liked both drivers, oh well. All Ryan did was show you can get around someone who's blocking without having to spin them out.

Ryan had much fresher tires so that made the decision a lot easier. Joey and Matt had stopped under caution together.

This was the first block on the backstraight:

And then right before it happened Joey had another great run on the outside and they almost put each other into the wall again. Letarte said it best, block if you must but you can't expect the guy behind to give you a break every time. There are risk and consequences associated with those moves.

The videos aren't working for me. I'm on tapatalk and it just says unsupported

At least he didn't park it.[/QUOTE]
He was afraid Junior would jump in it. :)

What did shrub say after the race? and did blaney get angry at the block?
Since there was no radio communication with Blaney,we really don't know what he said at the time. I will say that Blaney himself has pulled similar blocking moves over his short career. Of course Busch was OK with it, but if it had happened to him...hissy fit would have occurred.

Of all who do not want to stop blocking,
How many have actually raced?
I have and it is dangerous and certainty shows no skill
Or sportsmanship.
Now, that written, anything goes on the last lap.

Blocking is a part of racing...... it's been around since the start of racing..... no one should be surprised.... but... the blocker should be neither surprised when he is spun out for this action..... i.e.... Kenseth by Logano..... expect to pay the the price and don't whine and complain when the car you are blocking is faster......

Basically just a Busch bash thread ............................. you know the drill quite well

Well it wouldn't make much bloody sense to block a car that's slower now, would it?
