Statement from the family of Bobby Allison

With deep sadness, the family of Bobby Allison announces his passing at the age of 86. He passed away peacefully at home on November 9, 2024, surrounded by family. He had been in declining health over the past few years but continued to give back to the sport he loved.

Wow that is so sad, hope he is holding hands with Pat and hugging his boys.

When I think of a racer (and it is the highest compliment), Bobby Allison was in a league of his own, nobody has or ever will compare.

RIP and thanks for a million great memories. People will have every right to grieve and that is only natural the way it should be.

But with all respect, and all in good time the life of Bobby Allison has been an iconic one, and one that history will gratefully celebrate.

Yes. I really wasn’t aware he was that bad.

Im sure the return there for the Clash did have something to do with the decision to give him said win. However; he o me that makes a lot more sense as to the timing etc, announcing it during the playoffs so it could happen while he was still around vs waiting until closer to then or atleast until after the season.

Bobby was so much more than a great NASCR driver. His support and dedication to short track promoters, fans and fellow drivers was an awesome thing to witness, flying all over the country to compete and sell tickets at lord how many tracks. Also, near and dear to my heart, he was winning NASCAR races in Chevy's back in the 60's when nobody was, and he was basically the father of the front steer chassis. He also flew untold members of the NASCAR community to and from races for free, because as he said, It was the right thing to do. A complex and often difficult man, but a brilliant driver, car builder, innovator and friend of the sport. Godspeed Bobby!

A true racer, a gentleman and champion. Bobby and Judy suffered more tragedy than any family should have to. Bobby's accident, losing sons Davey and Cliff, is more than most people could deal with yet he and Judy stayed strong and worked through it. What super human strength to be able to do that.
Bobby had a good life on one hand and was dealt terrible cards to the other hand proving the axiom life isn't always fair.
His memory will live on in the mind and heart of many as will the numerous accomplishments and hardships he endured.

I hear you....but I NEVER approach famous people in the wild. EVER. He was going up the stairs as I was coming down. I made room for him, and said, "After you Mr. Allison." He said, "Where are you from son?" I told him, and then it was on. What a wonderful human being. Got a chance to tell him that Davey was the driver who brought me to the sport. Pretty cool.
