Bonehead of the Week: Richmond II

Kyle certainly HAS been a dickhead in front of the microphone before. I don't think he did anything disrespcetful last night with regard ot Joe Gibbs.
A driver like Kyle Busch does not show up to run second at any race. Kyle obeyed his crew chief, stayed out and lost all chances of beating Gordon for the final wild card spot. Imagine Kyle's frustration. I don't blame Kyle. I'm not sure that I'd be able to keep my composure under similar circumstances.
Sucks for me. Carl f'd up all year but also had some bad luck. Kyle did well at times but smoked a couple of motors. Neither of my guys will be in the Chase this year :( I may have to pull for Biff or Kenseth or I may just go with Dale Jr. (it would be pretty awesome to see Dale get a Cup Championship; he has certainly persevered.)

I agree with the previous 2 posts regarding Kyle's post race conduct. I watched it 3 times and didn't see where he did or said anything wrong. I think some people are trying so hard to find fault with anything Kyle does that they are unable to view anything he does objectively.

I agree as well, Kyles a high profile driver... no question.... I think that 'generally' everyone (fans, media, sponsors etc..) expect a little more 'feedback' rather that one short sentence. I know that emotions run high and so on........

I saw it more that the actions... getting out of the car and walking away from interviewers.... clearly not wanting to talk.... then settleing for one quick reply.... then into the transporter.

At this level I think that true professionals must take the good with the bad..... this is not just directed at Kyle..... its at everyone. It happens to often that if things dont go right then you walk away from an interview.... I am also aware that this is also to 'protect' themselves for being taken out of context for saying something when for some reason the media and fans seem hell bent on holding a driver to a comment for years to come. So yeah....

I dont have a fix...... perhaps Nascar can produce some flash cards numbered 1 to 10..... and then a driver can elect to makes comments or hold up the numbered card based on how he is feeling (1 for bad...10 for good). If the drive takes the card option then the media has no grounds to question the number selected.

If flash cards with numbers are not the answer.... then perhaps fash cars with pictures of animals. 1 being a shark and 10 being a little fluffy kitty cat...... and we work out the rest in the middle.

Anyway... whatever.... you guys are enjoying your weekend.... and I am 'working' here as its monday morning.

Cheers.

I'm sure that you're correct. His past conduct dictates much of how people view him. I know I can find fault in him rather easily but as far as looking at him objectively, I also have no problem doing that. We simply don't all agree. That's all.

Just the fact that he is entirely unable to compose himself , is kinda strange. Most adults have that ability . I still like his driving skills .

Wow, that's a story right there. Maybe JGR will sign Paul 'spin on command' Menard to help him out next year.

As far as radar, Rogers shouldn't have even looked at it to make the call to come in. Jeff was a lap down and had burned his tires up, so Dave knew he would come for 4 and be faster than Kyle. Bringing Kyle in for 4 tires was a no brainer, and Dave manned up and took full responsability for blowing the call. Now we'll see how Kyle races during the chase. If he thinks that's a good time for payback, nascar needs to sit his ass out.

payback for who? The Toyota engine shop? That's the thing that nailed Kyle to the wall.

JGR is a bag of asses. Every year they show it. And Kyle not making the chase is a product of the engine shop. Toyota or Gibbs owned, whatever the situation is. They can't build an engine to save their ass. He had three blow ups and several changes before the race even begun.

So where'd the Hamlin engine come from then, someplace else?

They give him all the good stuff. They like him more. ;)

I listen to Kyle's engine on restarts, and it seems he turns his chip off sometimes because the thing is screaming. I don't think it's illegal, but it may explain why sometimes his engine fails. What is really odd is that Denny switched to TRD engines because he didn't trust JGR's engines. Now Kyle is using the TRD engines, and he's having the most problems.

Maybe that's why Kyle is so good at restarts. Still though, the 18 had to change engines before the race several times this year.

Other theories, Kyles car was the test mule all year, or so it would seem.

Maybe Kyle's driving style just breaks the engine. This is way out there, but it is possible.
