Bonehead of the Week: Watkins Glen

I think that Brad and JLo have learned though that it is probably better to go say something than let it blow up like when Matt carried a hard on against JLo. It isn't that unusual for a driver to go to the other one just to clear the air right away. Then if the other driver wants to whine then it is their problem Maybe Truex's attitude is being changed by some of the whiners in the Toyota camp like Hamlin and Matt.

I know when Hamlin came into the series he was a nice humble kid for about 3 weeks and then went all diva on us. Sounds like the same thing is happening with Truex as he is getting a fat head.

I pretty much think all the JGR drivers are cry babies except for the 19. Every week one of them is crying about something. Truex fit's in perfect there. The only good racing in their minds is when everyone else pulls over and let's them drive by. The new logo for JGR= Crying forward. Haha

Saturday truex's qualifying lap was disrupted by the 17 car. So mr. cry baby stays on the track and swerves at the 17 when he's making his attempt. The 17 didnt get in his way on purpose but the 78 paid him back anyway and admitted it. Seems like when you get a gibbs ride the attitude comes with it. Lost my "appeal" for truex this last weekend. Dumping the 10 was the straw that broke the camels neck.

#48 team for pitting on a drive-through penalty. Seriously, was this the first time Chad has ever been on the box for one of these?

Honorable mention to anyone caught speeding after the first round of pit stops.

I disagree. Brad ran him over, even admitted it.

At Penske they are trying to diffuse the situations when "air heads" are involved. They have learned it is better to cut off Truex/Pearn before their mouth gets in gear before their brain.

Not the first time for the 78 to place the blame somewhere else.

You have to remember that the coach won his championships by hiring the biggest bad asses in football and covered all his transgressions with a group prayer.

Seems like this is paying off in Nascar as well and I doubt the prayer is what is helping.

^ Praying in the general direction of Daytona Beach might help ... that's about it.

The incident between BKez and Truex looked more like a racing situation to me and just a byproduct of what happens during go time. A question I have is why would BKez claim to be at fault when speaking to Truex? Did JLo apologize to Matt Kenseth?

There's a difference between the two....Joey completely did it to Matt on purpose and pretty much made no bones about it. He got blocked 2-3 times right before that, had the faster car, and said screw it, I'm moving you out of the way Matt. Kez's happened on the last turn where he misjudged what the 78 was gonna do. I'm fine with both.

If JLo intentionally spun Kenseth out I wonder why he was not disciplined? It sure could have saved a bunch of grief.

I guess it's all water under the bridge now, unless someone believes in payback.
It's just another JGR win.
On to Bristol.

Speaking of Bristol I was reading somewhere that they polished to lower groove of the track and were doing some other things as well.

I was referring more to the apology aspect where Kez apologized and Joey didn't...different situations. Joey won't admit he "intentionally" spun Matt out; he called it hard racing between both of them and what happened happened. Joey felt he had nothing to apologize for since (in his mind) Matt was racing him "dirty, hard" so he did it back.

I suppose as long as Nascar says it is OK to block the car behind you these things will always happen.

Blocking seems to be a relatively new term in Nascar . Used to be called holding your line and being tough to pass . I still don't get the new distaste . Like aero push , restarts , and debris , it's always been a part of racing .

I believe aero has been part of every Nascar race ever run and it will continue to be that way. The key is to mitigate its effect as best as possible and some of that will have to do with the car and the tracks they run on. JMO but I don't think anyone expects a leading car to move out of his line in order to let another car around but I also think that if the lead car is moving from his line in order to block the progress of another car he is playing with fire.

I understand why some people didn't like the previous method used on restarts but the double file restarts seem to be a recipe for wrecks especially late in the race. I doubt anything can be done about that. As far as cautions and debris go call them every single time they are necessary and take the necessary time to make sure the track is ready for racing. I think there are 2 key factors in calling cautions with the first being consistency and the second being common sense. There will never be agreement on this but a lot of improvement could be made. While I don't care for the caution clock I would much rather have it in place in cup if it will reduce, shall I say, dubious cautions. If Nascar feels its program needs to be spiced up then fine but lets have everything above board.

In my opinion, nothing wrong with blocking, nothing wrong with turning whoever is doing the blocking.

I"ll go with the number of speeding penalties applied to a bunch of drivers. I thought both Kez and Truex handled their incident just fine.

Brad took Truex out.
Sorry but that is a stretch. Now we are getting into situations where if you hit someone in the rear it is taking them out. Never mind if they pull out in front, slow down unexpectedly and so on. Some of the Toyota drivers need to grow up and accept that all contact is taking them out unless they are willing to admit that they took someone out when it was just a racing deal. Last lap, everybody is trying to advance just like Martin and Brad were trying to do.

Huh?

Brad has learned that it is better to go talk than to stay quiet. Brad said that he thought that Martin would go one way and he was going to go the other way. When Martin went up in front of him then he couldn't avoid him. Sorry but I'm sick of all this BS that anytime someone touches someone it is terrible. Like are we going to put turn signals and brake lights on the cars next? Come on close racing and on the last lap anything goes basically. They had several other wrecks and nobody is whining about them.

As Mr Penske said, it's only criminal when the 2 and 22 are involved.

You'll never be able to explain to a JGR fan what the term is "it's just hard racing or it's just racing" in their eyes everyone is out to get the JGR drivers. Good lord if something happens to one of those cry babies, someone is going to pay. Week in and week out the dirtiest drivers drive for JGR. They may be good dudes off the track, but they are still crying forward. I used to be a JGR fan back when it was smoke and Bobby, that team had class and respect, not so much anymore.

I think "Bonehead" is an unnecessarily vitriolic term to describe someone who made a mistake or had a detrimental incident during a race but I guess its provocative in that it gets the people going.

Allmendinger for ruining a great day Kyle Larson was having for 4th place.

'Bonehead' is in the eye of the beerholder. What term would you suggest? 'Brain Fart'?

It is obvious that Nascar wants to see mayhem on the track to make the event exciting.
Racing itself doesn't provide enough excitement for Nascar and especially the media.
I would truly like to see a race today with Benny doing the play by play while enjoying a good hamburger.

Take the media out of racing and this BS will stop.

You know what's worse than MRN announcing the premature death of Bryan Clauson? How about doing it a second time? I'm watching the Denny Hamlin car teardown while they are replaying the MRN broadcast of the race. They didn't even have the decency of editing out their comments. Who's running that place?
