Bruton live..

Thanks for the reminder. It'll be interesting to see if this makes any difference in ticket sales. Anything short of a sellout will be looked at as a failure. Unfortunately, for those of us that are now enjoying the racing there, the product will suffer.

I've changed my opinion 180 on this issue. The old Bristol may be exactly what the sport needs to put an end to blocking and back markers racing the leader because some Dog said it was OK.

I think the racing itself is much better now. But there isn't much drama which is what Bristol is known for. I don't think fans necessarily want wrecks, I think they want enough things to happen to get drivers mad at each other, throwing helmets, and those zingers after the race.

Have at it without the insanity.

Ever been in the left lane, behind some dude who thinks he rules the road? And he just can't seem to see the long line of 20 cars to his rear?

This is Bristol. The OLD bristol. The kind where pulling into the other lane and passing somebody is just another thing.

I can get side by side racing anywhere.

What I can't get anywhere, is the old bristol.

I know it pains you guys to think that some fans like DRAMA more than side by side racing, but this is the truth. People who had tickets for 30 years are giving them up because of gas and hotel prices? COME ON. Stop smoking that chit!

When something proves it is worth it for decades, it's worth it.

I just want to know how the conversation got started. Who was high on what?

I see it like this..... Hey Bruton. You could build more stands and sell more seats, but we need to change the track. Those people that have been ticket holders for 25 years might not come back if we don't totally change how they race! RIGHT!

Think about it.

But then, I only saw like 2 old bristol races. This was my bunny ear racing days. No cable, no internet. Just me, the bunny ears, and some tinfoil.

So, I really can't wait to see the new Bristol. I don't think it will sell out. That is, until people can get some actual feeling out of the race like they used to.

Remember the old Bristol ads for the races on TV? About the people who did crazy things to keep their tickets.

The one about the couple who went through a divorce and had to have somebody decide who got the tickets was a good one.

I remember in 2007 getting on the internet to check scalpers prices. Some tickets were going for $500 bucks.

That's some serious scratch to part ways with to get something you want. Seems to me and BRISTOL, people aren't willing to part with what they once did on a yearly basis for what there is now. Before, no question.

I'm on a roll. I will continue.

People want to feel something. Something that makes them stand up out of their seat and scream "HELL YEAH".

I paid $1500 for a week of camping and to see my man get beat again by Kyle Busch. But, I got to stand up and yell at the top of my lungs when JJ took the lead. I wanted that. I needed that.

Some people, need what Bristol gave them. And what it gave them was worth it. Now, it's not. And they didn't show up.

And yes, I have been to the new Bristol. I fell asleep during the LONG green flag run during the middle of the race.

Who in their right mind would pay that kind of money for that small ten inches of seat space?

YES, I know, Im not the race fan some folks are. Willing to weather hell and high water some are. ME, I want to be comfortable. Or at least some what comfortable.

Ok, I'm done. For now.

I'm thinkin about what you said MoeJoe and that right there is all that's needed.I like it.

Like 99% of his "big" announcements this will probably be more about him trying to get attention for himself rather than something worthy of anything more than a press release submitted to the racing press.

Now..... That just doesn't sound like him at all!

From this morning.....

Safer Barrier removed?

Narrowing the track by moving the outside wall down and forcing a one grove track?

Looks like they are going to do some grinding to the tracks top groove in hopes to lessen the banking and get them back down into the lower grooves of the track.

In other words..... taking the progressive banking back out of the top area of the track.

I'm going to hold my judgement of this procedure until I see the end results of the grinding. I basically want to see how the track will look once the grinding is finished.

Bruton: "What we're doing now is modifying what we had." Says a lot of people didn't want them to do anything. Was 60/40 for change.

I missed the whole thing, but grinding sounds more reasonable than ripping the whole thing up. Atleast they will still be racing on an old surface. If Kez wins again, they'll probably just blow the place up. ;)

Back to single groove, no passing...zzzzzzz
Yes, sometimes we have to be careful what we ask for.

I love the argument against the new Bristol that the progressive banking made it just like every other track and that we can see side by side racing everywhere. Yet..... almost every week fans complain about the lack of passing and so on.

I only hope this change can give us the best of both worlds but only time will tell and we'll all find out next spring when the seats are full or not.

I thought the same thing. Where do we see side by side?

I'm hoping that grinding will give everyone something by perhaps allowing some bold moves to the outside.

Yet another pic. The shaded area is the only area that the track is being altered. So..... it's not going back completely.

I like that. Instead of one guy way up, they will be packed together. I also hope they heed Jr's advice about the apron needing more room.

Bruton Smith on asphalt: "Didn't give that much consideration at all. Asphalt on a steeply banked track is difficult at best."

The fans perception of the quality of racing in August will likely have no impact on attendance in March 2013.

I will go on record as predicting it will be a long time before the spring race is a sellout again unless they make it later in the spring and turn it into a night race.

One last pic from BMS today. This is either a representation of what they are about to do the the surface of the track or a chart representing ticket sales. I'm not sure which.
