Bryan Clauson had a nasty crash tonight apparently.

He was trapped in the car for 30 minutes before he was transported to hospital?!

Those cars have always looked like death traps to me. Arms hanging outside the cars. The drivers are crammed in there. It's almost like you should be a midget to even fit in one

I have a terrible intuition when this happens. last night I was changing my son and I had a very strong thought Bryan had passed away. when Dale passed away I was on a snowmobile ride and all I kept hearing in my head was he's dead before I knew. when my brother passed I told my wife he is going to die I knew the circumstances. it makes me sick but I just know it.

Thankfully your intuition was incorrect this time. As of this writing Bryan is still with us. Some MRN producer may not be!!!

unfortunately it wasn't Indy held a press conference this morning :(

He was leading the race when he crashed. He was going for 200 races this year. So sad. He was the definitive raw, real racer.

Bryan was brain dead when he got to the hospital. He was going to be taken off life support once everyone in the family had arrived to say their goodbyes. Just about everyone in the racing community knew that - including the media. EVERYONE respected the family's request of not reporting anything EXCEPT MRN, who, technically, got it wrong, since he hadn't even passed yet. I have no idea why they did what they did. It's so much worse than simply "getting a story wrong." Like I said, everyone knew the situation. There was no story to even break. People had the facts. They really, really blew it.

It sounded to me like someone spoke in the background during the MRN boadcast.
They were sending out thoughts and prayers to Bryan and his family and someone in the background, or on the headset said that Bryan had passed and the on air talent corrected (he thought) himself.
Seems like an honest mistake to me.

I am going to give MRN the benefit of the doubt and hope there was some sort of miscommunication or something of that nature. If they had a "National Enquirer" type past I would be all over them with both feet.

I'm asking as someone who's pretty out of the loop in terms of local dirt/short track racing - but was he considered the best, or one of?

Yes. Not only was he a badass midget/sprint car racer, he also ran the Indy 500 multiple times, before that he ran some NASCAR as well.

Man, that was not the news I wanted to wake up to. RIP Bryan Clauson.

He had like eight USAC titles and a fair number of big race wins, including the Chili Bowl in '14. That sounds like elite stats to me.

He was a shoe for sure. I think he was approaching something close to 200 wins in a season. RIP.

Have to correct myself. Went back and looked up his stats for this year and he had won 27 races in the 116 he started this year. His goal was to run in 200 races. Regardless 27 wins in a season at different tracks is one hell of an accomplishment.

RIP Bryan Clauson

Great talent. Well faceted in many forms of racing. A legend in USAC and sprint cars. Raced at Indy and spent some time in NASCAR. Always tragic and heartbreaking to lose a racer.

Condolences to his loved ones and fellow competitors.

Thanks, Auntie, that is a touching video.

auntie: well done. just saw it on my facebook page and was going to share as well.

a lesson learned along time ago by watching a fool: never celebrate a wreck until the driver walks away.
.
RIP Mr. Clauson
