Cannot Believe It's Tony Stewart's Last Race

Tony has done a lot of things I don’t like, a LOT of things. One thing I have always admired about him however is the fact that if he causes a wreck, unlike most other drivers he will look right into the camera during any interview about it afterwards and say “It was my fault…I screwed up.”

Whether he’s driving his old hearse around his home town (if he still does that) or pinching Danica on the ass (which she says he does routinely and which she calls an "honor") or just sitting in his car wearing Jack Rousch’s hat (which I have seen him do) or putting someone into the wall or winning a championship, he’s been colorful, cranky and highly skilled…the antidote for a lot of the “vanilla” NASCAR drivers we have today and are going to have in the future.

He’s been a throwback to the older days of race car drivers and probably one of the last of their kind we’ll see for a while, if ever. NASCAR races are going to be much duller without him.

It's supposedly his last race but you know how they all seem to fill a vacant spot occasionally
...I"m not a fan but I don't want to say anything negative about Tony so I guess I'll add that he has made the last 25 years interesting and I hope that he has a safe race and enjoys retirement.

Will he be a 'hands on' Nascar owner or an absentee dirt track driver/owner ? Will he work with Nascar to make tracks and racing better ? Will he help bring new drivers and owners to the sport ? Will he help young drivers ? Can he bring in much needed new sponsorship to his teams ? Will the Haas partnership survive a 'hands on ' Tony ? Too many questions ?

I remember the end of last season...after Tony announced his retirement...I was really "feeling" it. Haven't felt much since then though, til tonight. It's certainly hitting me. Idk what tomorrow will bring.

The best thing about Tony...he's never going to quit racing. There is a chance...a very slim chance...that I may see him race or spectate at one of the short tracks I visit. That slim, .000001% chance is a .000001% chance greater than any of the other drivers in the garage. Once they quit, they quit. They buy a nice ranch 30 miles north or west of Charlotte, and they live out their days on a working farm, with a huge ranch, and leave the racing life, save for a few TV or garage appearances sparsed out over the next dozen years. Others stay very involved in the sport- on the pit box, in the booth, or some other suit-and-tie position. Not Tony, I guarantee.

The fact that a Sprint Cup driver could be seen racing...in anything...after retirement... is something I don't think this generation of clean-cut drivers will do. I truly believe Tony Stewart is the last connection between 21st century NASCAR and 20th century NASCAR.

Glad to see someone posted something about this being his last race. The career is not ending like I'm certain he'd like to see but it's been one helluva ride. Lot's of memories of a great talent and great interviews along the way.

One of my favorites.....

This is my favorite Tony Stewart's interview.

It's too bad Tony's last race was overshadowed by an even bigger story today...

It was also Brian Scott's last race.

Gonna miss Tony Stewart.

One of the best to ever climb in a racecar. At any level or any form of racing. He's this era's AJ Foyt.

He's truly the last link to the glory days of the 90's.

I wouldn't have even known he was racing tonight or most of this year besides the one race he won. I love the guy but I'm glad it's over.

First time I felt really old watching racing since I started watching back in the mid 90's. I remember watching Tony Stewart from when I was about 8 or 9 being called the best up and coming American driver. He was one of a few bright spots for the early IRL days and I still remember how awesome it was to see him go to Nascar. What a career. The past few years have not been kind to him but he was one of the best all around drivers in the sport of racing.
