Can someone please explain to me how a car in the pits can gain position on cars on th etrack under caution. Obviously I don't understand the rule and it just doesn't seem to make sense that Johnson could have gained track position in the pits while other cars were making laps under caution. If cars on the track can't gain position under caution, why can a car gain position in the pits? Shouldn't a driver in his situation just come back out in the same position he was in on the track when the caution came out. Basically it seems like a driver in his position makes 1 less lap than cars on the track. Boy does he get all of the breaks!!

He enterd the pit before they were closed. He exited in front of the leader. The leader then pitted, leaving the 48 on the track in front.
Burton, Harvick, and Martin all pitted? I thought the broadcasters were sayingthat Burton and Harvick were going to run till the end without pitting. I guess they did during commercial? I guess I missed that. So if they had not, he would have just went back to the position he was in when he left the track?

#1 They had to have pitted because the would have been in front of JJ if they didn't #2 They needed to pit for tires orJJ would have been right behind them on fresh ones #3 JJ was within an eyelash of coming out a lap down and no chance of wiinning but thats luck
