Bell is running tomorrow

Chili Bowl is Christopher Bell’s Daytona 500

“This was my Daytona 500 growing up,” Bell said. “This is the biggest event that, obviously, we have in Oklahoma, but the biggest event that I attended as a kid. All my heroes raced here, and it’s just really, really special to me. …

“You can go ask any racer in Oklahoma, and they’ll tell you this is the race they want to run.”

Bell was so young when he attended his first Chili Bowl he hadn’t even started his racing career yet, which he began at 6. He attended the event with his uncle and remembers sitting on the front row, mesmerized by the cars flying by him on the front stretch.

“I got to watch some great racing, and I fell in love with it,” Bell said.

This mutt dropped the N word during an interview at the CHILI BOWL NATIONALS and did a number on the effort put together by a bunch of good people.

The sponsor did the right thing by condemning the remarks and disassociating themselves, and the team made the correct and difficult decision, especially given that they had an excellent chance to make the big show on Saturday.

I had to do some digging to find out exactly what was said and the context. He used the word as a verb, as in "I got n*****ed". I'm 41 and remember these kinds of terms being tossed around when I was in my teens. I detested it then and find it sad that a young man in his 20's feels comfortable saying that into a microphone today.

I'm glad the right decision was made.

There are some pretty good match ups ya know. I don't see anywhere that they lumped up the better ones all in one heat. Pretty spread out.

We know Faccinto pretty well out here in CA. Haven't really heard a bad word about the guy. I don't know if this reveals who he is a s a person or if this is just something that is used around he and his people, but the concerning aspect is the ease in which it came out. This leads you to believe that it is said on a relatively normal basis. I'm by no means surprised as I have heard it used this way at the track many times. Even by some of my close friends. I know these people well enough to know that they are no racist people, but it is said in more of an effort to be funny.....and a poor one at that.

Lots of people trying to defend it online and trying to justify it for whatever reason. Also, a lot of people trying to applaud him for apologizing on social after the fact. The reality is that he said something that has not been socially acceptable in decades and then went on to attempt to be contrite after. Intention will never be known here, but the company did the right thing in removing their sponsorship. For every action comes a responsibility and then a recourse.

Kofoid did not disappoint in his debut at the Chili Bowl. I missed T-Mez on the entry list.

Justin Grant and Tanner Thorson would be my picks. Tucker Klaasmeyer should do well, and Stenhouse has been getting better and better in a midget and could get a top five. Daryn Pittman has had some good Chili Bowl runs, and Windom should be there. Schatz is out of his element, but I bet he has a solid night and finishes top 10 and makes the show this time on Saturday.

Oh yeah I think tonight is going to be very competitive but it doesn't have as much "star power" that the other nights that have had Rico, Larson and Bell in them. I got to pull for the local boy Pittman. I think he's a top 5er. Thorson is in a Kuntz car..nuff said
