Coke 600 Will Feature 4 Segments

Every time they're (there for our special friends) stopped there is a restart. Drivers must get their rides back up to speed and everyone's close. More of the potential for way cool wrecks similar to those in plate races.

Of the three big races on Memorial Day Sunday, the Indy 500 is by far the one I look forward to the most.
 
I thought of an analogy over the weekend before this news came to light; Remember when MLB had their steroid-fueled home run craze in the late 90's? It's like Brian France saw that and instead of saying, "wow, the legitimacy of the sport is tarnished, we need to ban 'roids," he said, "wow! dem ratings are great, let's let everyone juice all they want and we'll have so many moments it'll be 1998 every year!". Bud Selig chose the former, and while not spectacularly popular baseball maintained it's spot as a major sport. Brian France since 2004 has led NASCAR down the latter path, and it's increasingly clear that NASCAR has dropped to at best a 2nd or 3rd tier sports league. Today's announcement just further cements that.

If Brian France ran Major League Baseball, we'd have guys hitting 200 home runs a year. Not because of the steroids, but because he would move the walls in 200 feet at every ballpark, because fans love home runs.
 
Things I find more concerning than the announcement of an additional stage in the Coke 600.....

Should I put ketchup and mayo on my burger or just ketchup?

Is next year a 'leap year'?

Dang, I've got a dentist appointment next month.

Was I supposed to by milk today?

Probably just me, but I see little to no cause for alarm here. NASCAR has become such a shell of its once glory days. An additional segment to its already planned, approximately 108 segments, seems kind of minor.

Yep, just checked with the wife..... Gotta buy milk today.

It matters to me. I'm not happy about Nascar changing the formula yet again. I was initially put off by the idea of stages, but it has worked very well IMO with two short "heat races" followed by a long run to the end. Now this race will be a series of four heats, and I don't like that. I don't see any need to change it up.

In my opinion it makes the 600 even more special and adds another opportunity to gain points so I dont see any problem in it.

Lee Spencer just said on Tradin' Paint that she's been telling NASCAR they need to run 4 stages in every race and has been asking them if that's something that is on the table.

How does everyone feel about that?

When did they implement the G-W-C rule? Was that 13 years ago already?

That was one of their best ideas, and they still tried to screw it up with this stupid "overtime" BS

Less is more. Keep it how it is or go back to how it was. They need to stop trying to reinvent the wheel

I like it too and yet it hasn't done jack to improve ratings or attendance, which is what he was asking about.

Yeah I get that.

They will keep making misguided changes in desperate hopes to get the sport back to where it used to be. They are going about it all wrong, but what do I know.

The racing this year has been great in spite of their constant rule/format changes, so I'm not gonna complain too much. One extra segment at a 600 mile race isn't a big enough deal for me to get upset about.
 
Lee Spenser wants it even... eeeven not odd. I'm seeing officials on the finish line flipping a coin...even..odd ..yeah that's it.

Who knows, I'm really not a fan of hers from the times I've listened to her.

I guess she likes the idea of 4 segments with the same, or close to, number of laps. To me it waters down every aspect of the sport. Green flag stops, fuel mileage, comers and goers, and so on. It would all be negatively affected.

4 stages at Charlotte is to keep Truex from leading almost all the laps like he did last year. If he takes the car he had this weekend to Charlotte for the 600, all them boys better put their big boy pants on.

Have the stages, but, "GET RID OF THE BS CAUTIONS THAT COME WITH THE STAGES" :mad:

I dont pay any attention to ratings or attendance, thats NASCAR's job. I trust they know what they are doing and do the research. Myself though I think that the playoff is the greatest thing NASCAR ever done. Stage racing has been fine and actually made for more intense moments in the middle of races. Overtime is great same as any other sport, its free racing. Knockout qualifying has made qualifying watchable. I think people look to much into ratings and changes that they overlook the changes that have made the product better.

I aslo understand the sentiment that NASCAR was fine before the changes but times change and NASCAR had to get with the times.
