Coke 600 Will Feature 4 Segments

Section L1, as in Livingroom, Recliner #1. I only carry two 30 packs into the venue when I attend a race with @Johali. That guy drinks me under the table every single time. Heck, I think he has a 6-pack with his eggs in the morning.
Don't let him fool ya. @dpkimmel2001 has a case under each arm just to go out back to the sun deck.

There’s something to the beer thing.

It appears the commonsewers of the brewmasters’ best are those most comfortable with and supportive of the various enhancements Brian France has gracefully put upon the theater that is motorsports entertainment.

There has been. Baseball fans don't obsess over ratings declines and attendance declines though.
As an avid NFL, NHL, MLB & NASCAR fan I never think about the ratings for anything other than NASCAR. And I only think of them because of the constant reminder on this forum.

I can only do my part and continue to watch what I like, including every single NASCAR race. I'll let the networks and those that feel the need to pound the subject into the ground be worried about the numbers. If I have to tune into the Food Network to get my NASCAR fix, after the current television contract expires, I'll do that.

so then, you are suggesting that the food network in addition to a 30 pack will improve Nascar ratings..like cooking with Carl? hot dogs with Denny? Good idea, I think you are on to something..good entertainment during segment breaks :D

One thing that bothers me: Having four segments places less emphasis on the finish when it comes to points.

But, points are mostly pointless with our disgusting playoff format, so I guess the extra segment isn't a huge deal.

Of the three big races on Memorial Day Sunday, the Indy 500 is by far the one I look forward to the most.

When I was in Nashville last week there was no buzz about racing and the sports bars I was in had nothing Nascar themed. The big news was the Preds and of course the Titans and Vols were well represented but no racing memorabilia. I found the same thing to be true in Charlotte as there is some token racing stuff but very little given all the teams housed within the city. You are more likely to see a pic of Rusty Wallace in the MGD Pontiac then anything from today and if you asked anyone how many stages the 600 would have you would have seen a lot of blank stares. I snapped a pic of this banner in the garage area of a local Nashville bar.

It's also a little disheartening when you see 250,000 people in the stands for the Indy 500 and 40,000 people in the stands for the Brickyard 400.

IMO they need to start roping off and closing most of the seating areas for the Brickyard as aesthetically it looks awful with 40K sitting in little dots around the big track.

I am shocked you would say this.

What would The Junior think? Hell, what would Hellman's think after dumpin' the cash on the best driver ever?

Don't forget Kenny Wallace and the ill fated Duke's Mayonnaise car he left APR for that lasted a couple of weeks.

Which is a sign that times have changed. People just are not as interested in motorsports like they were and the passion for racing isn't getting passed down to rhe next generation like it once did. Do you honestly think if NASCAR wouldn't have made any changes they'd still have as big a following as before?

The problem with fans losing interest began when they started dropping races from interesting and unique tracks and gave the dates to the soulless behemoths that feature boring aero-fests. Atlanta used to have 2 good races on its original configuration as did Richmond, the Bristol that 160K used to show up to see has been forever changed, the Rock and Wilkesboro are gone plus Darlington lost a date so by my count we have lost 10-11 good race dates and replaced them with crap.

A lot of people that are now 55 plus gave up on Nascar in their 30's and 40's and did not introduce the next generation to the series and it is far more important for an adult to introduce a younger person to auto racing then it is to stick and ball. Nascar not only turned off many of its fans it made them openly hostile so they are reaping today what they began sowing 20 years ago. While I don't think Nascar could have retained its fan base from the halcyon days I firmly believe they could have kept a helluva lot more of them if they had kept their eyes and ears open.

Fair enough, these things we'll never know but I see no harm in speculating. I think its a mixture of things not all related to NASCAR when it comes to ratings and attendance declining. At the end of the day NASCAR is still making money and putting on races so until that changes I think they'll be alright.

What many are oblivious to is that Nascar and the tracks are doing well today because some ignoramuses at FOX and NBC gave them stupid money for a stupid term and that is what is artificially propping things up today. The reality is that teams are shutting down, there is no market for charters, sponsors are becoming harder to find, the series sponsorship that used to be worth 75 million per year is now worth 20 million and the ratings and attendance are in the toilet....oh and Dale Jr hasn't even retired yet. The broadcast rights deal will keep Nascar and the tracks artificially buoyant for another 6-7 years but there are plenty of other minefields to be navigated.

I agree with number 1 and think thats one of the contributors to rating declining but it will never happen. I stop agreeing there though as haveing a playoff is a necessity at this point, plus it rewards winning and thats what racing is about. Honestly I'm not the biggest short track fan and I feel like if NASCAR did go to a schedule with majority short tracks it would hurt them more than help. NASCAR needs new tracks in big cities not rural America. Might need a time machine if you ever want to see that NASCAR.

Taking NASCAR into the big cities and abandoning rural tracks is what initially started nascars downfall.

At this point they've gone too far to ever come back IMO. Southern fans are pissed.

Going to be 4 segments AND TracBite. VHT worked like a charm at Bristol, going to be very interesting to see how it works for the 600. Seeing them running multi groves at Charlotte would be a first for me.
