Congratulations Matt Kenseth

A great win from a quite old school racer. Based on next week's circus this was the equivalent of winning his finale, imo.

A classy exit for a great driver.

Boy, he picked up more dings, dents, and donuts on that cool-down lap than a Bristol double-header.

Glad to see my boy get one more using the same tactics he's used most of his career - run near the front most of the day, take what the car will give him, and capitalize on opportunities.

Anybody notice the last three retiring champions have been able to get one more win? Stewart at Sonoma, Gordon at Martinsville, and now Matt at Phoenix.

Just a guess, but Matt is not likely to put himself in a position like Clint a two years ago.
No, I don't think so either, which is probably part of the reason he doesn't have a ride for next year at the moment. I do think there are better teams then HScott that Matt could go to and be an upgrade over their current drivers. RFR and RCR both come to mind.

Most drivers don't get to pick when to leave NASCAR (Matt isn't retiring), but to get a win like he did was special. I've followed Matt and Jr from their Busch days and I'm glad to be a fan. I figured what Kenseth did to Lagano could have been done by a dozen other drivers, not Matt; but he did it. I think I've only seen that move in the movies - thanks to Matt it was the last track scene in Days of Thunder I've seen in a real race. I wonder if Michael Andretti's offer was foretelling (he said Matt could have a job if he had a NASCAR team).

Even I'm happy for him.. couldn't help but get a little emotional watching him during his interview when he got out of the car. I don't like him but it's good to see him end his career with one more win.

It's kind of similar to how I was happy for Gordon when Kenseth gave him his last win lol

Happy for Matt. Hopefully, this spurs a team to sign him for next year.

Judging from his interviews yesterday Matt had some opportunities to drive next year, but wasn't interested in mid pack and field filler rides.

That's pretty much it .. seems like Matt had some opportunities for 2018 ... just not opportunities he was real thrilled about. He's not interested in tooling around mid pack every race because he is in junk equipment. It also sounds like he has warmed up to the idea of spending more time with his kids .. talked a lot about how missing his daughters recital or whatever was really bugging him earlier in the day. That said .. if one of these good rides opens up I think he'd jump at the opportunity.

Great win, especially considering that he had to beat drivers who were desperately pursuing that last spot in the final four!

Heck .... even I was a bit glad for Kenseth .. I am getting old too and it sucks sometimes. Matt did the deed clean too

Matt and Chase raced each other hard but clean. Matt's win was well deserved.

Does anybody else appreciate the irony that Matt Kenseth helped a Penske driver make the final four by winning yesterday? :p

Dump Hamlin; keep Kenseth.
  1. Denny looks like he's always spaced out.
  2. Denny may or may not have recurring back problems from his accident in 2013.
  3. Denny can not think or drive; he certainly can not do both at the same time - that is complicated, you see... he's always got somebody behind him. :p:p:p:p:p:p
  4. Denny is pushing 40 (I think) and Kenseth still is a better driver.
  5. Denny has competed in tens of thousands of races by now. He has got to be exhausted. :p:p:p
I want to see it happen.

Matt's attitude, to me, comes across like he is content and ready to retire.
I took it slightly differently, I think he's just come to accept his career in Cup is over and was thrilled to go out with one more win.

Yeah ... hated to see Brad get in with that win, but it is what it is. I think it's funny that the Brad fans had to root for Kenseth to get around Chase and get that win. They were probably like me with 3 to go ... no cautions .. no cautions!

Been a Kenseth fan since Mark Martin was mentoring him as a rookie,so it's sad to see it end this way but I'm sure if a contending team asks him to drive for them , he will be back.

Kenseth.....

Somebody offers Kenseth something he considers a top ride and he'll be back. If they don't .. he won't .. simple as that. I don't think the money is the biggest thing for Matt .. being able to be competitive tops that. He'd more than likely take the pay cut needed to stay in a top ride. I wish I knew who the offers were from. I would argue that Matt spent his last several years at Roush racing for a mediocre outfit, and still managed to win some races and compete well.

“I thought of maybe being involved and doing different things (after driving), especially at JGR,” Kenseth said. “The talk over the years was that we want you to stay involved and be part of the company, but through the years that stuff has changed for a number of reasons.

Sounds to me like Gibbs was leading him on about being a part of JGR then pulled the rug out from under him. Make that two rugs. Just my opinion.

We love Matt, we love his family, we want him to be around for a long time.
