Countdown to the 2017 Daytona 500

Love that Ricky Hendrick Busch car. It's on display at the headquarters and it's a beauty in person.

A couple years ago I was at an antique festival in Springfield, Ohio. There was a guy selling a race used sheet metal side skin from one of Ricky's #24 Dupont cars. It was a huge piece, seriously almost the entire side of the car, from the contingency decals all the way back to the rear quarter panel. It was even autographed by Ricky. It was a little beat up, but the guy was asking some crazy low price, like only $200 bucks or something. I didn't have the cash nor did I have my truck with me, so I didn't even really consider buying it, and to this day I still kick myself for walking out of there without getting it. I must have spent too much time in the sun that day because clearly I wasn't thinking straight.

Curtis Crider from Charleston, SC finished 15th in the 1959 Modified-Sportsman race at Daytona driving the #23. Curtis brought the same 1955 Ford back to Daytona in 1960 finishing 35th. The main sponsor on the car was Livingston Auto Parts owned by Ed Livingston. Crider and Livingston both raced on the Grand National circuit in the 60’s.

100% agreed. That blue is so perfect...

Not to derail the thread, I know we're on 23 to go now, but real quick...

I got to see him race that car in Daytona, I was actually pretty bummed that he didn't get to run it under the lights cause that color was made for it. But anywho, that August I made the trip up to Bristol for the night race, and stopped in Charlotte along the way to visit the HOF and Hendrick. I have a friend that called in a favor to somebody they know that builds for the 5 team, and I was able to get a nice little behind the scenes tour. After we left the body/chassis shop, he took us over to the room where they prep the car the rest of the way, and look what was sitting there - that Daytona car. Getting prepped for Talladega! I ended up going to that Talladega chase race for my birthday and got to see him run that same chassis. And sitting across was his Daytona backup car. Pretty awesome.
