As you may remember I keep a database of how many times drivers crash in a race during the season. In 2020 I weekly followed the Cup, Xfinity, Truck, ARCA, ARCA West, ARCA East, Modifieds, Indycar, and F1. Below are the totals ranked from most to fewest across these series this season, except F1 who doesn't end until almost Christmas.

I assume these accidents were not race ending.
 
I think JHN will improve next season, he's fast, its just he has to keep the car out of the wall.

He pushes and tries to do more with what he has, but I think another season under his belt will help his cause. Rather have someone who is fast and calm them down than to get someone up to speed. I watch him and he's about as close to Greg Biffle in terms of how loose his car is.

Correct, I go through each race result, list each driver who is listed as crashed or damaged vehicle policy. Then I go through caution flags and list who was involved in each crash related one. Its impossible to ever have it 100% accurate unfortunately because with road courses or last lap spins in the back of the pack I can't accurately get everyone.

Yeah he definitely pushes he led the Xfinity series last year too.

What I've seen with doing this is the small teams wreck less because they can't push as hard.

I said from the outset when he signed with FRM, it's to be expected.

Another season of him and McDowell, I'm hoping he cuts down the accidents and just continues to improve. If he can, I think he could be a great prospect in the next few years.

I’ve gleaned from this data that cup drivers wreck, a lot.

indycar drivers do not.

though I’m thoroughly shocked that stenhouse did lead the pack pulling away...

Stenhouse has led the series the last 2 years and 3 times overall, for awhile it was bouncing around the house with Danica leading.

Well they only ran 14 races this year, and usually run close to about half of a Cup schedule. The wreck leader (Askew) only ran 12 races, which would put him at 15 wrecks across a full Cup calendar.
 
No more than Ty Dillon has crashed, you'd think that would bode well for him in getting another ride. He's not junking equipment like his brother does.
 
Alright last one I've kept track of for the year F1. I'm currently working on the best way to do multi driver sportscar racing which leads to far more inaccurate numbers since I'm assigning a crash for each driver if the team they were on that race crashed.

Alright I'm not starting a new thread so if a mod wants to delete the date from the title feel free.

Anyway so far I've only gotten this years Cup season done as I've been much busier and had less time to work on this. Anthony Alfredo and Ricky Stenhouse Jr led the series in crashes this year with 18. It was Alfredo's first time and Stenhouse's 4th... There were 403 total crashes this year by my counting system, 4 less then last year but still the 15th most of any season. Worth noting this year is Kurt Busch taking over the all time crash total for the Cup Series. He now leads Michael Waltrip 257 to 255. Ryan Newman is now 3rd with 214, and Kyle Busch becomes the 5th driver with over 200 for his career as he is now tied for 4th with Jimmie Johnson with 202. The next closest active driver to 200 is Martin Truex Jr with 169 or 15th all time. There are now 57 drivers with 100 or more crashes. Active drivers are Almirola with 105, A.J Allmendinger with 111, Joey Logano with 130, Brad Keselowski with 133, Kevin Harvick with 139, Ricky Stenhouse Jr with 147, Denny Hamlin with 154, Truex with 169, Kyle Busch with 202, Newman with 214, and Kurt with 257. Kyle Larson notched his 99th this season. Austin Dillon has 93, Michael McDowell has 75, as does Alex Bowman, Ryan Blaney is at 67, Erik Jones 65, Chase Elliott 60, Chris Buescher 59, Bubba 51, Suarez 49, Byron 47, Preece 47, DiBenedetto 46, LaJoie 43, Chastain 29, Joey Gase 27, Bell 26, Reddick 22, Houff 19, Custer 18, Alfredo 18, Ware 17, Briscoe 14, McLeod 10, Haley 9, Davison 7, Smithley 7.
