Cup RACE thread --- Kentucky

If Martin doesn't clip harvicks rear bumper I think it's a battle between the 4 and 19 for the win. That move let the cars behind them back into the battle.

Almirola's 10th in points, Bowyer 14th.

If he can't win in SHR equipment 14th in points today isn't going to do him any good by the time the chase gets here. Guys hanging on inside the cut line by the skin of their teeth with no wins need to move over they cant get it done. Almirola has more upside than Bowyer.

Both have solid sponsors. Some don't like that playing a role in choosing drivers but that's bidness. Combine those with making the Chase and running up front most of the time and it's tough to make a business case for cutting either one.

How is it a guy like Harvick runs consistently in the top 10 actually clicks off top 5's like it's nothing and Bowyer struggles to point into the top 15? Need someone hungry to win in that 14 car.

How many races is Gene Haas sponsoring the 14 car this season? He's not rock solid on sponsors.

Easy. Harvick is a better driver than Bowyer. Do you know where SHR can get three more of him? Keelan isn't ready just yet. Can you guarantee some else can do better AND bring a solid sponsor / keep the existing sponsors happy? If Almirola goes, Smithfield is gone with him.

Jimmie's not lifting
Good for Jimmie. He can say whatever he wants and has the resume to back it up.

Similar to the Edwards deal in 2016. Jimmie was late..Brad didn't have to lift. He could have moved below the white line, a second later, Jimmies spotter would have called low, and Brad would have been right back up on the track.

Situation was avoidable without Brad lifting. He chose to hold his line and let the 48 spin himself.

It's racing.

48 was just as fast as the 12 and 19 and I was saying it in stage 2.

Running the fastest lap of the race after moving into P3, I think it was a 29.65 when no one else got below 29.75s shows that JJ has still has it and can find that extra tenth no one else can when chasing down the rabbit.

He'll be back in VL soon.

As Many as he wants too. He can buy and sell Gibbs and Hendrick.

Which is true however the fact Clint can't and never has pulled in enough sponsors for a full season without Haas in the picture makes the argument that "sponsors like him" kind of weak. Sponsors like winners.

You weren’t a member here when the Chase started.
No, but I was curious about how far back the forum went, 2002 apparently. And over the last two years I've skimmed through a whole bunch of old threads dating back to 02.

Speaking of which. Everyone here was crowning Ryan Newman in 2002 as the next great driver.

A lot of people were predicting at least 4 championships in 10 years and hailing him to eventually be one of the best ever.

A lot of people were talking about Tony Stewart leaving NASCAR asap.
Different times.

But........no evidence of your bullschit claim that I’ve been against Jimmie since the start of the Chase...

Now that's some digging, sounds like a fun read through. Props for going in that deep.

Dude, it was a blast. It was like a time capsule to watch the fanbase react, think and predict over the last 15-20 years.

Newman is a future GOAT
Stewart is only in it for Money and will leave as soon as he wins a championship.
Johnson is the next Mark Martin and will be one of the best to never win a title
Kahne is a future champ
HMS to Ford!?
Dodge is coming back!?
