Honestly, this is likely going to be Bowyer's last year in Cup. Custer is ready for the Cup Series and Bowyer's contract expires, and with his declining results, Stewart will likely not renew Bowyer, and since Bowyer's 40, the amount of Cup ride offers he'll get will likely be in backmarker or mid pack rides, and I don't think Clint wants to go through that ordeal again.
