Cup RACE thread --- Phoenix

I can totally buy what you're selling here. I think Bell will be there all year, but they've hit on something early. There's so many Ebbs and Flows to a season this long, plus the playoffs are a huge curveball you just never know now. Hopefully he racks up the wins and playoff points, and Larson will get hot soon to make it a awesome rivalry. This is the rivalry the sport needs imo, Bell vs Larson... JGR vs Hendrick...Your Preacher vs Jeffy, Chadly, The Felon and the Rest of the Chain Gang.
I don't know - have they really hit on something? Seems to me they have been running well for a while and this is just one of those stretches where things are falling their way more. I am not saying anything against Bell - I am saying this is not surprising as he has been running good for a long time. Sometimes you just go through a good stretch. I don't see him "dominating" races like Larson has done at Vegas and Bristol. I see a solid driver with fast cars executing and having no bad luck. That's just me though. Maybe others see something different. I just think we all (myself included at times) tend to overreact in the moment. I swear during the NFL season when a team wins some sports writers are booking them a trip to the Super Bowl and then they have a bad game the following week and the same people are saying their season is done and it's time to tear it down. LOL

The thing here from an entertainment perspective is that we need a pissed Bell. One of the guys on his team reportedly refers to this as his "Revenge Tour" based on the Chevy crap from Martinsville. Bell does pissed off well, but he is too nice to play the nice guy....if that makes sense.

Yeah, I agree here....don't think they have necessarily hit on something rather they are executing at a very high level. I also agree that Larson is still the deal....but we are watching Christopher evolve. The line between great and dominant is very thin.....Still have Bell on the great side with Larson as dominant....but like I said, we might be witnessing the next dominant driver doing his thing.

I thought that what it was but couldn't make the numbers work out.

Which explains how Denny Hamlin could be in 7th but -10 GL. He's not down 10, he's up 10 from 17th. So the numbers are correct but the up / down are reversed.

Thanks!

No problemo.

The guy that works the Pick 'Em tables gave me the heads up on all of this.

Notice that NASCAR's brain trust has Katherine Legge apparently going from the 0 position to 39th, which has them subtracting 0 from 39, resulting in her being shown to have "gained" 39 positions. :owquitit:

The three guys at the bottom (Smith, Alfredo, and Castroneves) are in a world of their own. :idunno:

So they say Byron is ahead in the standings. It sure would make it easier to stomach if the score sheet showed how that was possible in simple terms any fan could read. We all know it doesn't make a hell of a lot of difference anyhow, they are both going to be in the "playoffs" because of the win and you are in jackpot. The whole thing is a bunch of gimmicky nonsense.

I agree with you. I am curious and have asked before though - what would your solution be? I am all for going back to the old points system maybe with some extra incentives for winning but not sure if that will fix it. Interestingly enough, if we were going by the old system Bell would be on top even though that system did not put as much emphasis on wins. Maybe just getting rid of stage racing would be the key.

I think Larson will continue to dominate on tracks such as Vegas, Homestead, Bristol and Darlington where he can work the high line. It sucks because I have my tickets and am headed to Bristol next month and not looking forward to a repeat of the Fall but I have always wanted to go if anything just to see the World's Last Great Colosseum in person. I am still bummed I missed last year's spring race due to personal circumstance because that must have been amazing to watch.

Not so fast Herbie lol. Viva Las Vegas. That Okie is going down :punkrocke

May I suggest for our viewing pleasure, other entries for name that team greatly appreciated. The preacher or Sold out Joe, Pious Joe, Goober (Briscoe), Boy wonder(Ty), Hambone and the holy rollers.

He Gets Us. Lmao. Pious Joe, forgot that one.

frankly, I've been waiting for him to get on a stretch like this. It's awesome to see, I mean imo he is probably a top 3 talented driver in Cup. Whether its luck, hitting on a set up or whatever it might be, it's been fun to watch his ascension thus far as well as his previous Championship Four runs.

Funny how his success coincides with sold out Joe giving Bell to go ahead and go back to the dirt and Bell immediately wins a Golden Driller dueling with Larson in the micro's at the Chili Bowl. Adam Stevens who Revman worships is all for it. Says what I have said that drivers like Bell/Larson need to stay busy. That makes for a happy driver. If you are having to watch guys who you have raced with your whole life having fun and you are not, he ain't happy. Kinda like I am only here for the money.

Bell had put together with his in-laws a micro, a midget and a 410 team. Coy who had given him the ok passes away and Preacher put the nix on it. Given the go ahead and all of it ripped away. Sorry "coach" lovers, football preacher Joe IMO is one of the dumbest owners they have in Nascar.

Thought about starting another thread but...does Katherine Legge get another chance or is it over? I can't think of a track that's "easier" than Phoenix. But also, the track wasn't the problem. Lack of practice/experience in this car was the problem. Who owns Greenville-Pickens speedway now? Is it closed? Why couldn't NASCAR rent it and have "rookie orientation" there once a month?

Seems like an option to me. I'd bet Hendrick/Penske/JGR etc would chip with crew/support. Use it as a legit test session. Log all data & changes. Gets shared to whole garage. Maybe 1/2 dozen cars. I mean the Next Gen is soooo much cheaper than the old cars...close to half-million a pop? They wreck 25-30 @ every plate race so how many could they hurt that bad a G-P?
