Cup RACE thread --- Sonoma

This is an embarrassment for the sport. I’m literally pissed watching this, a 13 second win? You know why there were no cautions? Because there was absolutely no bumping which has made road courses so thrilling in the past
Sometimes it just works out like that.....it was a good strategy call. And I always thought the clamoring for road course racing was a bit overrated, I always felt Watkins Glen was more exciting than Sonoma anyways

Okay maybe we should get rid of stages

Okay, I'm with you so far.

But fuel and pit strategy is going to be a factor on road courses, and in genuine auto racing generally. That is until they decide that the final stage starts with ten to go.

No. Embarrassing was when the field at large were much less competent road course drivers, and couldn't stop wrecking themselves and each other. This was impressive.

I have no problems with large margins of victory. In fact, there should be more of them.

This was not one of the better road races but it happens. The fact no one got off track and there was very little action in turn 11 is unusual. But owell, I thought it was reasonably entertaining.

Fans set themselves up for disappointment with their expectations. Ovals suck if they don’t have four wide at the line, cars flipping upside down like at Daytona and Talladega. Road courses suck if cars aren’t sliding around position-swapping like Ambrose and Keselowski were.

This is pretty par for a NASCAR road race. Take it or leave it.

If you want lots of beating, banging, and almost guaranteed GWCs, watch the Xfinity road course races. Those are fun for what they are as well. These are among the best racing drivers in the world, and they show it.

2018 Cup Season:
Expectation: Diverse list of winners

Reality: 4, 78, and 18 smacking the field senseless every week and Chevy being totally uncompetitive

I'll take it...

For those of yall that repeat “it needs to be like the old days!”

There’s been only 6 different winners in 16 races so far this year. The last time a season had only 6 different winners in the first 16 races was back in 1978. - Reddit

Welcome back.

Welcome back.

Those are the teams that are excelling right now. I don't see the problem, and I certainly don't want the racing dumbed down so that "everyone has a chance".

Commercially speaking, the problem is less the presence of a few dominant competitors than who is dominating. This is probably why NBC's entire marketing campaign is built around a guy who will be calling the races, not anyone who will be on the track.

Knowing I don’t have to heard Michael’s dumbass commentary for 8 months makes me happy
I taped the race today and started the recording an hour and 15 minutes after the green flag. I fast-forwarded past all of the Mikey and Larry Mac nonsense. :)

Does anyone know what happenned between the 48 and 18? I heard Wheels ask if the 48 dumped the 18 on the cooldown lap?

Yep. A large margin of victory is fine by me he won it fair as can be, just show the countless battles and passes that occured.

But they were simple overtakes really, that’s the issue. And even then they were meaningless because nobody was even on the same strategy as MTJ
