Cup RACE thread --- Talladega

The booth was just repeating what drivers had said about the shape making it hard to hit square.
Who said that? I must have missed it, but I do remember TRD pointing out that the nose was designed for better pushing.

It isn't apparently. Looks like a small area to push with width wise and it is also angled down which reduces the contact area. Of course Hamlin was involved and he was sliding back in forth like a drunken sailor.

An extra spoiler shim? Ticky tack, but sure, OK, whatever.

Missing one of the 18 spoiler bolts? Really?? How's this possibly worthy of a DQ?
20 some odd years ago Jr got busted for drilling holes on his at Daytona. It was letting air out from inside the car. Could be something similar.
More shims on the rear for Preece? That is going to put more down force at the rear. It worked, he almost won. If Cindric didn't catch a wiff of those two lappers with Larson hammering on his bumper, Preece would have won.

Overall uneventful but not a bad race. Nice to not see half the field wrecked.

My big takeaway here is one that has been going on for a while and it's HMS sucks at working together. At the end of the first stage Chase and Larson and Byron worked well to get toward the front but then they just left Chase and Chase had some to say about it on the radio too. Now let me be clear - it was nothing terribly egregious or anything and I am not "whining" as some will likely say and credit to the 5 for doing what he had to do to get the stage win but overall I just don't see the team effort from HMS and the Chevys that I do from the Fords and Toyotas and this is just one example.

It was another race for Chase that was a good finish but once again not a clean race as he got busted for speeding which is a surprising tend this year since he never used to get caught speeding. I am also concerned that Chase and Alan are just not on the same page. Chase seemed to want to pit at the end of stage one and get track position but staying out at the stage break because passing had been tough but Alan wanted to go for stage points. I think it's decisions like this that lead to Chase being exactly where he has been in years past with AG. Running pretty well, really consistent but no playoff points and that will not get it done in this format.

Bell had no complaints, but you do....I'll go with Bell.
Bell is a company boy (err…man I guess). But read what was said about this incident from the 17’s perspective. Also note the predictable Hampuke’s response (yep…”I didn’t do anything”).

Chris Buescher ‘s race is done at Talladega. He was running P2 on Lap 52 of Stage 1 when Denny Hamlin made contact with the back bumper of race-leader Christopher Bell , sending both Bell and Buescher hard into the inside wall.

Scott Graves , Buescher’s crew chief, is frustrated with Hamlin. He immediately took to social media and called out the Joe Gibbs Racing driver for causing a big wreck off a restart.

“This team works so hard every week, had our driver in position for the end of stage 1, and the guys that would consider themselves some of the best drivers in the world can’t even get through a restart,” Graves wrote . “I see why you have an insurance sponsor [Denny Hamlin], can I file a claim?”

Soon after Bell and Buescher wrecked, Hamlin was on the radio. He “apologized” for his role in the wreck.

“What in the hell?” Hamlin said, via Jeff Gluck of The Athletic . “We weren’t even up to speed yet. Man… apologies if that’s on me. We weren’t even up to speed yet. I don’t know why that would have wrecked him. When he shot down to the bottom, I wasn’t even sure I was actually on him.”

Like Graves, Buescher was honest about how he felt. He voiced his frustration with superspeedway racing .

“It’s just not racing, and I’ve been a part of those, and I’ve hated every second of it and I don’t want to be a part of it,” Buescher said, via Matt Weaver of Short Track Scene . “ Jack [Roush] adamantly doesn’t want to be a part of it. Brad [Keselowski] adamantly doesn’t want to be part it.

“That’s not what we’re here to do for ourselves as racers as competitors, for our partners, it’s not right. So, you’ve gotta race and you gotta accept that you’re going to have moments like this. But that one felt a lot more preventable. Again, I haven’t seen it, but it sure felt more preventable than a lot of those scenarios.”

Wish I was at the track. I don't get as stressed as I do here at home.
Pacing is about to begin.
This is when I knew I was basically over watching these races. Pulse would jump up last few laps and start pacing. Now has zero effect on me. Not sure exactly when it flipped. But flipped it did. Think was mainly when they moved away from technical stuff. They do seem to be bringing some of it back now tho. I usually have the coverage muted tho so may be missing more than I think.
