D.W. really needs to be let go

Last week the complaint was the zoomed in shots, seems like fox may have listened a little this week. But unfortunately people like rick Allen, joe buck, Chris collinsworth, Phil Simms, dw, etc. will have a job for life. It just seems like these networks never fire the talking heads, and once promoted to A team, it would take rioting in the streets before one is let go. I remember Phil Simms was receiving death threats a couple years ago from Denver fans, and cbs still sent the windbag to do their games.
To their credit, Fox mostly uses shots of the whole pack at the plate races, simply because everyone IS in a pack and they'll all fit in one shot at the same time.

DW is fine with me. He's more tolerable than Jeff Gordon and the whole NBC crew.

This ought to be an interesting explanation.

Why is Jeff Gordon not tolerable? Does he not know what he's talking about or what's your problem exactly?

You're the first one I've come across that doesn't like him in the booth.

My big complaint with DW is most of what he says brings nothing to the broadcast, no insight to what's going on, no new information, very little revealing about the personalities or driving styles of the current crop of wheelmen. He mostly either cheerleads, tries to build excitement (unnecessarily), reminisces, or tosses out homespun expressions. His blatant favoring of Earnhardt Jr. and Patrick is particularly annoying.

As someone else noted (dpkimmel?), I have a huge amount of respect for Darrell Waltrip, the driver. 'Jaws', the smart aleck, at least backed up his words with his actions on the track. But DW, the color commentator is well past his expiration date.

His voice for starters. Guy doesn't have a voice for broadcasting, to squeaky and not deep enough. He's got great insight on the cars but I really dont care about that and DW does just as good in my opinion. His attempts at comedy just are not funny to me. DW actually seems like a funny guy while Jeff doesn't.

As little as I listen to the broadcasts I've caught Gordon exaggerating.

What he spouts on the air is worthless to me.

I've said it before though, I'd watch the entire race on Crank It Up if that was an option. Crank It Up never last long enough.

The Boogity deal is like fingernails on a blackboard for me.
Damn good description. Kudo's to those out there that like that green flag call, I'm just not one of them. I find myself a little embarrassed for the guy doing that each and every week. It's kind of like the Uncle that pulls the quarter out from behind the ear trick every time he comes to visit. The first time or two it was funny/amusing, but after 16+ years it gets to be a little much.

I've bitched about 'Crank It Up' on any number of occasions. Let me be clear, I'm not bitching because the announcers are quiet. I complain because the camera angles during that segment suck chunks like 20-amp Oreck with turbos.

I love the angles during Crank It Up. Most are on the car and for restrictor plate tracks they are awesome as you can see just how close these drivers are to one another. They do have a tendency to stick with one car for most of Crank It Up but thats probably a sponsorship thing or something.

Folks into the brand of motorsports entertainment NASCAR provides should know by what to expect from both “television broadcast partners’” talking heads.

If they’re (there for our special friends) annoying, there (their - optional for some) are options, explore ‘em. I have no sympathy for anyone suffering silently – nor audibly for that matter.

Danica " and ummm kevin harvick just took the lead"

" ummif im Paul wolfe uhhhh id take 4 tires and fuel ummmm i just think that'll work uhh better than no tires"

"Ummmmmmm it looks like the 48 got into the uhhhhh 22 and spun him out. Ummmmm the spotter didnt uhhh clear him to uhh the extent that the 48 would ummmm feel comfortable"

The Boogity deal is like fingernails on a blackboard for me. Otherwise DW is OK with me. Sometimes I listen to what he is saying and other times I don't (he was quite excited yesterday).

It seems like the movie critics come out for the Fox and NBC coverage - I'm just glad we have coverage.

The only thing about just being glad to have coverage is that it doesn't hold the network accountable or give them any reason to make updates or improve.

The problem with camera angles that show how close the cars are to each other (and with shots from in-ground and in-car cameras) is that while they may look awesome, they do a very poor job of showing the racing itself.

the 90s had fantastic in car camera views much better than now

It seems to me Gordon has a very monotone voice

and when he does get excited he sort of shrieks like a girl

Gordon's voice is too high pitch but DW's constant shrieking is tolerable? Who are some of you people?

Thinking we should buy Gordon a Darth Vader voice emulator.

I had to let that one go. Not liking someone because of their voice is kind of wierd to me so not even touching that one. lol

Could say the same thing about people complaining about DW. He's a family friendly voice up in the booth and brings some fun to the race. Boogity Boogity Boogity always gets me pumped up and ready to watch a race.

Its not weird when his job solely depends on his voice. He just doesn't have a broadcast voice.

Boogity boogity boogity makes me feel like I'm watching children's television.

I always gets the vibe that Mike and Darrell don't like Jeff because he pushed Larry out of the booth. Darrell was always overly critical of Jeff during his driving career, just imo.

Are you some kind of expert?
If so, I'm pretty sure DW doesn't belong in there either.

I have ears so I guess I'm an expert. Just takes listening to him talk to know he's got a bad voice for broadcasting. Great broadcasters have deep voices that grabs your attention, thought that was common knowledge though.

One of the reasons I really dont like Jeff either. Always liked Larry Mac

Lmao. I know one thing, when I think of deep voiced, well-spoken, fantastic broadcasters... the two people in existence I think of first are Larry Mac and DW.

Given that Gordon has being in TV before and has been invited to host shows in the past, I'm incline to think he has what it takes.

It's probably just your paranoia.

Whatever happened to him takin' a job on a mornin' TV talk show.

Saw a vid clip once 'n he did some sorta brake/break dance, the worm or somethin'. The old dude has some TV talent.

To replace Regis. I too read about that rumor.

It was supposed to be a full time gig and Jeff was still full time racing so that probably played a part in him not doing it.

If I recall aren't you kind of a newer fan to the series?

It was cool the first year or two he did it. After 16 years it ain't funny anymore. Especially when he does it 6 times.
