Title says it all. Supposedly will not be ready until a little while into the second part of the year.

Any bonzai predictions? Anyone that guesses correctly will eterninally earn my respect.

Could it be...hmm...Chevron? Heard rumors of them getting into the sport. They certainly have enough money to do it that's for sure.

Norfolk Southern. I mentioned it in the other thread dedicated to this topic. ;)

But it is Jr, after all.

KLN family brands / Dale Jr foods.

Sorry Allen ,we're really more into interpreting spins (and deducing the personality traits that are obvious from them) , than reading the posts of folks who are actually in the sport .;)

I'm a casual railfan. For those who aren't familiar, Norfolk Southern has some cool train liveries.

I could imagine HMS turning this into a cool paint job for the #88:

^See plenty of them as I live real close to a NS double-track main line. They'll run north of 25-30 trains through here..sometimes more on a Saturday when I'm off work.. ...but, it's still a sharp scheme.

Side note--my father is a retired locomotive engineer. 40 yrs starting with the L&N and retiring from CSX.

That would make a cool scheme. But just like I wouldnt switch banks because it sponsers a driver I wouldn't take a specific railroad because they sponser a nascar driver.

how can race fans support a railroad?
How many race fans can afford a $900,000 bulldozer from Caterpillar or a $300,000 airplane from Cessna (recent sponsor on the #1 car) or a $1,200,000 helicopter from Bell Helicopter (another recent sponsor on the #1 car, also owned by Textron)? Not all companies involved in motorsports sponsorship are consumer products and not every product sponsored in the sport is for every race fan.

If Norfolk Southern is really going to sponsor the #88 car, I imagine they're aiming at small and medium business owners who may NASCAR fans and may have large-scale logistical/transport needs.

lol, Amtrak is the only passenger railroad in the country. Unless you're planning to ship yourself in a steel shipping crate, I don't think you could travel on Norfolk Southern. Maybe if you jumped in the box car like a hobo. :D :D :D

Dale Jr. fans are dedicated, maybe N/S will see an increase in hobo travel on their trains.

10-4. In that case, maybe Jr's new sponsor is bacon, BECAUSE SCREW YOU BACON IS AWESOME THAT'S WHY.

Norfolk Southern might come into NASCAR for several reasons. First is B to B...there are a lot of sponsors (like a few listed earlier, CAT, Cessna etc) whose only purpose in NASCAR is to entertain giant clients. The access you get as a primary is one of the biggest perks, and I've seen giant deals take place at the track simply because the potential client was having an awesome time. All the CAT people do week in and week out is entertain their big fish, or potential big fish. If they make a sale or two here or there because NASCAR fans see it and happen to need heavy machinery, that's more gravy than meat.

Second reason might be safety messaging. CSX has been in the sport a couple of years, and are currently with the #34. There's a yellow bumper sticker on the back of David's car each week that says "I brake for trains." It's part of their Play It Safe campaign, which was also on David's car at the All Star race (hood said "beats Goliath, brakes for trains). NS might be spending huge money to get exposure, and simply relying on the fact that it's Jr. CSX spends a ton less, and mostly does "stunts" to get the word out. CSX also had a primary at Richmond this year, and fans were all asked to sign David's hood promising to brake for trains. That initiative received a lot of press, including a big picture of the hood in USA Today. There's plenty of ways to get a message out using NASCAR - spending mad cash on Jr is certainly one of them.

They might also be using NASCAR for internal purposes. Entertaining employees, rewarding employees, employee moral (it would be nice to work for a company who shows up on the most popular driver in NASCAR's car...then again, I might be pissed if I didn't get a good raise, but Jr got millions...who the heck knows) a perk for landing high level talent, etc...

So aside from "here's my product, go buy it" NASCAR really does offer sponsors a lot of positive business opportunity. It's not much different (other than price, obviously) than companies buying season tickets/suites to sporting events, or vacation homes for employee/customer use etc. A lot of deals go down in that garage.

Following the usual HMS scenario, there should be an announcement about the announcement first. The announcement will then follow that announcement. That will then be followed up by a followup news conference. I think I have it correct.

News conference with some cars on display already painted in the new paint schemes, I reckon!

With the amount of people involved in these things it always amazes me how well they prevent leaks.

Just curious about what everyone's (constructive) opinion is on what Jr's new sponsor could possibly be. It' s been announced that they've never been involved in NASCAR before. My dad works for Duke Energy here in Indiana and I thought that might be a strong possibility due to them being based in Charlotte, NC and the fact that they became the largest power company in the US after they acquired Progress Energy last year. Another sponsor that came to mind was Under Armour. I just wanna kick some ideas around with everybody.

Trust in Allenbaba - it'll be Norfolk Southern.

Norfolk Southern's facebook page now lists Dale Earnhardt Jr. as a favorite athlete? What's that about? Hmmmm.....

Yeah I thought he was talking to a train outfit. He isn't hurting for sponsors, has everything covered. Being partners with Hendrick doesn't hurt either.
