Dale jr. says

And I suppose you have been to Bristol, Michigan, Chicagoland, Talladega, and Lowe's. Did you bother to look around and see all the faces of the booers?

Fans out here in the land of the newbies are pretty much the same as the fans out there in land of the diehards. But I consider myself a diehard among the newbies. :) I'm curious as to why California explains it.

I thought Jeffy called Indiana home..........he did live in Visalia though.

Um, yes...seems to be mostly Jr. fans.

I'm talking about the booers............where they serious? :)

I'm in Jeffy's country (your words) and when I look and see booers of Jr all I see is smiles. :)

Yes, and I've been to Atlanta, Daytona, New Hampshire, Indianapolis & Watkins Glen for Winston Cup races too.

But you haven't been looking at the booers..........seems you only look at the cheerers. :)

What's the difference? They're still booing...whether they're drunk on bud & having a good time or shooting daggers out of their eyes at him. :idunno:

Guess I'm done with this thread.........a dead horse is only good for so many licks. :)

What??? Jr more hated then jeff thats hallarious. Seriously theres no way.

As far as jr goes, I dont think most people here think he cheats. They are just sick of hearing about him from the media. He gets the attention of a legend but hasnt proven to have the skills as one. Alot of places where normally you only see championship winners listed, I see his name right in there with them. Dont know if anyone else noticed but during all the preseason commericals the same 3 drivers where mentioned where matt kenseths name wasnt mentioned at all. "Watch tony stewart, jeff gordon, and dale earnhardt jr battle it out for the nextal championship".

Also if there are any gamers here, is it just me or was dale jr the first non championship winner to be on the cover of a EA sports nascar game cover?

However, I think alot of people confuse the favor the media gives him with nascar. Fox, Nbc, and Ea sports are not nascar, nor are they controlled by nascar. I personally have gained alot of respect for him over the past year seeing him compete for a championship.

Well, at least he had the respect of the late great Dale Earnhardt and every other driver he has to race with. Every race he won, he gave respect to the person who he learned to drive from. Dale Earnhardt even made the comment on numerous occasions that he probably taught him more than he should have. I guess 64 career wins........................no, nevermind. Nothing I or anyone can say will ever change your mind. How can you hate a man for having success. Oh, and by the way, I have never ever seen Jeff Gordon put off a "smug" attitude, as you put it.

I guess we'll just agree to disagree and leave it at that.

Gordon had the respect of the late Earnhardt??? He's the one who fueled the rumors that Jeff was gay. Some respect. Luckily, Jeff took it with a grain of salt.
Wow!!!!!! You got any proof of this. I am not a fan of Gordon, but I highly doubt this.

Very good post Smack500.

People blame all the exposure on Jr when it is all these other companies that are after him and shove him down everyones throat. It is the same way with Tiger woods and lebron James. What has lebron done yet? At least junior has won races and finished in the top 10 in points already in his career.

Don't hate the player, hate the game!!!

we already covered this a couple of pages ago dino ;) I guess the proof is supposed to be on sports century on ESPN classic friday at 7 p m, I forgot who but I think he was trying to say that when dale sr. referred him as "wonderboy" that was a gay remark.

I like Junior. He is a class act in my opinion. He always gives props to the people who win the races and he never whines. He doesn't try to be like his dad, he's comfortable with his own identity. He's nothing like his dad.

I also think JG is pretty cool. I don't know why everyone hates these guys or hates one and loves the other. They are both great for the sport. Of course people tend to dislike the the guys that get the most press.

Hawk

Can you people imagine if JR. wins the 500, OMG let the flood gates open, so many haters and conspricy theories.

I doubt there will be. Its not like he has won it before. Plus I think Jr and Mikey are in for a tough time Sunday. I doubt that many will be helping them.

I have to say this for one: what makes this sport so great is that we can have favorites and dislike certain drivers to the point where we have these discussions. This whole thing is great for the sport, it fuels debates and conversations around the water cooler all over the country. Jr. has come a long way, proved that last year by being more consistent, yet there are a lot of people out there that think he has a lot to prove. I think by going out and racing the next week after his dads' death, going on through that entire season of racing , he proved himself. Is he great yet? Hmmm maybe not quite, but i'd let him drive my car if i had one. The measure of greatness i think is in your competitors eyes, i think that Jr. has achieved this so far. He is a litgitimate threat to win the championship that is for sure. I've always loved Bill Elliot, since he came up,but i never booed for a certain driver. I loved to cheer against Dale sr, but i never booed him. What i am trying to say is that we have always had rivals in this sport, that is what makes it great.

I knew this thread was going to blow up.

My $0.02:

Regardless if I like the driver or not, I give them all props and respect because they got the balls to actually be out there racing close to 200 while only inches away from other cars. Its a dangerous sport. If they are in Nascar's top league then surely they have to have some talent.

That being said, Junior hasnt done anything on the track that would make me not like him, its just the fact that the media shoves him into the faces of every fan, and all it does for me is make me look away. In my opinion plate races are more about luck and car than skill, so I would rate a plate race win as counting about half of what a win would be at any other track. Junior has shown flashes, but has yet to put it together completely, especially on the short tracks and road courses. Could he? Yeah. Will he be Jeff Gordon good? No.

About Jeff Gordon, I give him props too, but I dont like him. Sure, he is one of the best drivers in Nascar right now, but I dont like the fact that he cant take losing graciously. Im sure its in his competitive nature, but when I see his interviews in certain ones it just makes me want to punch him. :p Well maybe a little has to do because Im a Robby Gordon fan, and well, him and Jeff arent the best of friends.

RG...this is one of the most profound statements I've read on this forum.

Jeff Gordon is one of the best stock car drivers out there and he doesn't take losing graciously. He cried when he won the Coca-Cola 600, one of the sports premier races and when someone costs him a win, he gets po'd and lets everyone known that he is po'd. This is a mark of a great champion.

Matt cried when he won the championship, I wish he'd get more po'd when some jerk costs him a win, but Matt is too PC when it comes to his competitors.

In a much calmer mode now, Kat says right out loud that she is pizzed at her own favorite driver, but has picked Jr to win the 500.

There is NO driver that deserves disrespect, whether one likes them or not!

Thanks RobbG and 17.

Pizzed at Jeff? I'm confused. IMO...Jeff never did anything wrong on the track. Only mistake he made was going outside the marriage. Which is pretty common among Nascar drivers including the #3 driver.

I shoulda said about his starting position and the need to take a provisional the first race of the season. I'm NOT angry with him. If he cheated on Brooke, well so be it and that's old news.

His 2nd provisional ever...I guess I wouldn't let that get me down...especially at a plate track!

what's cheating on their wife got to do with anything, and why does dale sr. have to be involved in a dumb statement like that.

Its all the whinners can come up with...everything resorts back to an Earnhardt one way or the other....

Its really idiotic.

Jr.'s speedway skillz are genetic. It can be nothing else. He inherited the same thing his daddy had.

It is like african dudes winning all the long distance marathons, genetics.

Sometimes genetics skips a generation. Adam was to be the new King. Kyle just wanted to play his music. His heart was never in racing and with Adam's death who's to say...

Never heard Earnhardt say that about Jeff. Did you hear him or just repeating hearsay. :D
Repeating heresay. The heresay was heresaid on the program SportsCentury:Jeff Gordon on ESPN Classic this past Monday. Of course, you never heard Earnhardt say it...so it never happened, since you were with him 24/7 up until the time of his death.

The show is going to be re-aired this coming Friday in case you want to hear & see what I saw.
I don't mean to bring this back up but I watched that show and supposedly "earnhardt fueled the rumors that gordon was gay" that's what the ESPN program said. Ed hinton of SI said "jeff told me earnhardt even came up to me and asked if I was gay" so ed printed the quote in SI and ed thinks that's how the gay rumors started. IMO it's the media who fueled the rumors not earnhardt.

I would take anything Ed Hinton wrote about Dale Earnhardt with a grain of salt. He absolutely hated Dale.
