Danica to NASCAR?

Not everyone knows Ali Owens whole life story. I follow ARCA very closely and never heard anything about that.
Scott Speed did some wacky things as well. Toenail polish?

I guess he didn't belong in ARCA and will never do anything in ARCA. :sarcasm:

He had good results.
But, but ... he painted his toenails!!!

And showed up at DoQuoin in a pair of overalls and a straw hat!! :XXROFL: I don't understand why everyone got bent out of shape about that... that was funny crap!!! :XXROFL:

I never got bent out of shape about any of that, or anything Ali Owens does. I really don't care what any of them do. But Scott Speed painted his nails and won. Ali does what ever she does and gets bad results. Maybe she'll get better, I don't know.

You're right, that's 6th place was a terrible result.:sarcasm:

I wish her Aunt well.

I am entitled to my opnions as you are yours.

The last time I saw here was at Kentucky on race day afternoon. The way she was conducting herself was too say the least was unprofessional. People in the garage notice things like that. I do not know or or have any need to know her pesonally but I think somevbody needs to give her some direction on how too conduct herself. As far as learning in ARCA the best way too learn is get seat time. Her car owner should have her in these short track races. If they are truly serious about moving up then they will get her in the car every week no matter what it takes. No substitute for seat time.

I was messing around in ARCA way back when Patty Schact was at the wheel. Patty Moise was likely the best in the late 80's. After her was beleive it or not Christi Passmore. She had the talent but never had the equpiment. Biggest flop had too be Erin Crocker. She had top shelf equipment and could do nothing with it. Some of the cars Ray put her in she should have lapped the field. Shawna Robinson...another let down. Top shelf stuff from Kranefuss but she always ran out of talent. Then there was the weapon Deborah Renshaw....enough said.

Owens and Dicarlo are neither the best or the worst in my opinion of women drivers to come through ARCA. With the right amount of polish either could move up and hold there own. I just think it is silly at best to run a few ARCA races then try and jump to Nationwide. It could damage her career.

I do not mean to come across as a know it all as some do but I have seen at least 700 of the over 700 drivers to go through ARCA in the last 10 years. Some do it right and move on and others you why they where there at all.

If Juan Pablo Montoya can do it too polish his skills I would think Danica Patrick should do the same but I can not see here people allowing that.

Well you cant say she did nothing with it, she did get a couple of 2nd place finishes didn't she? But I agree with you that she should have done way better.

But the teams can't afford to run ARCA. Their payouts are jack ****. Their venues are in the middle of nowhere and I've been lucky to get decent hotel rates to the races I've been to. Half the races aren't televised. The cars cost too much to build for what ARCA's worth. The sponsors aren't paying to run ARCA like they used to.

All it takes is Dragger manning up and making some changes over there. I know he doesn't want to spend the money -- but that's what it takes.

Alli -- she's run 1/3 of what Gabi DiCarlo's run. All but three of her starts were in subpar, decent but subpar, equipment. We haven't gotten to tracks where she can break out yet.

I don't think Erin Crocker was a terrible driver either. She could've done better -- but Ray Evernham screwed (no pun intended) her career over.

Your right about the ARCA mess. If you really want to get the seat time and have a driver mover your team up you have too operate at a loss and run the races anyway at all costs.

OK enough about ARCA...at least here!

Darrell Basham has 2 top 10s this year, any of them can get lucky.

I bet Darrell Basham could win a few races in the equipment Justin Lofton and Parker Kligerman have. That's not a knock at either Lofton or Kligerman -- I'm just saying the old guy's better than you give him credit for.

But his cars are garbage and he still gets top 10s. Just saying it isn't hard to get lucky and get good finishes.

Hey if somebody bought Basham some tires at those short tracks he would be top 5 every time out.... its all about tires.

Is her conduct in the garage area hurting anyone? I'd be more concerned about drivers drinking up $500 bar tabs and showing up at the track than I would about someone walking a dog and acting like a 20 year-old girl. :idunno:

What's she gonna learn at the ARCA short tracks?? How to get wrecked?? How to drive around at pace speed during cautions?? I love short tracks and I love ARCA -- but the past few Toledo races have been a joke. I'd expect that kind of crap at my local track, not in ARCA.

He's 11th in points -- so it's not just getting lucky twice. Darrell could easily win races if he could afford to go race for the win. But racing for the win in ARCA involves tearing up racecars a lot. If DB didn't have to worry about it, he wouldn't. But one crash sidelines him for weeks, if not the entire season.

And what good full time teams is he beating in points? Ken Weaver? Kens luck will turn around and he will be in the top 10. I am really not trying to bash Darrell, I'm just using him as an example of how meaningless a good finish in ARCA can really be. We all know he doesn't have great cars or any real budget. I think if Darrell had a big sponsor he could do great. Ali has a much bigger budget, a much better team, she should be doing better.

OK I mentioned the dog but it is not all about that. She just needs to present herself better. When you have sponsors you have an image. That is all I am saying. Maybe Gabi can influence her. Now, she has it together in that department

I will be suprised if Weaver runs the full season. I know he is supposed too but of he keeps tearing up stuff and can not get solidly in the top 10 I think he will throw in the towel. Just depends on what kind of contract he has.

By the way we need to start picking prior to the race on what lap the 1st Ken Weaver caution will be. Just hope it does not involve 'ol DB

I heard Weaver is only under contract through the first 8 races. It has mostly been bad luck, he even said he is still a little rusty from being off for a few years. I bet he will run them all. Ken did very well in 2005 and he wasn't bad the first half of 2006. I also heard Arpin is only running half of them too, hopefully he will be at all of them. ARCA does not have enough quality full time teams.

Ok getting back to the point of this thread Danica will not be going Nascar racing, IMO I just don't see it as a wise career move. If she ever does she won't last an entire season. There is no woman out there at the upper levels of racing ...ARCA, ASA, Camping World East, Trucks, or Nationwide worthy of a Cup ride right now. That is the bottom line. That I don't see changing any time soon either. No sponsor in this economy , where money is tight, is going to take a chance on a woman with unproven talent no matter what caliber equipment she has. The only way a woman will make it in Nascar at the highest levels is to prove she can win on a consistent basis. As far as I know there are no ladies out there doing that at the present time. Not to sound extremely sexist here, but I don't think it will ever happen. Nascar at the highest levels....CUP, NATIONWIDE, TRUCKS, is a mans' sport it won't change. Sorry ladies of the forum, but I call them like I see them.:D

i have seen women run well in the ARCA series but the girls that have done well never keep their rides for the whole year. i guess a few good runs here and there don't make up for running at the back of the pack everywhere else. as far as damnitka driving NASCAR, forget it. just cause this chick is hot everyone wants to open up all the doors of opportunity everywhere. my suggestion is if she really desires driving a closed fender car, she oughta take some of her easily earned millions of endorsement change & start an ARCA team, she's has plenty of money and would have no problem at all getting sponsors. heck she could prolly be an elite team in that series, but thats where it needs to start for the simple fact that those guys although not NASCAR, race on all the just about all the NASCAR venues. she's gonna have dough rolling in for years to come so if she sucks, it's no loss. there's always a place for her in the IRL & on magazine covers & PEAK antifreeze commercials...

the godaddy girl isn't going anywhere. she's got it made in the irl.

Alli's had three starts with D'Hondt. She had a top 5 car at Daytona before Eddie Mercer flat wrecked her out. She didn't have a great car at Rockingham on the short runs, and the results showed that. And she should've finished top 3 had her crew members had gotten the thing full with gas.

Is she supposed to win right out of the gate because she's a woman?

No, but you were comparing her to Scott Speed because he has done silly things too. Scott did win right out of the gate.

Danica needs to stay in the IRL. She hasnt really accomplished anything there. Sure she won one race but no championships not even a top5, No Indy 500 Trophy either. Dario couldnt cut in Nascar, neither could Carpantier, and Hornish is still struggling despite having a couple good runs this year. Those three have a ton more experiance and accomplishments to prove how good of drivers they are, but yet they all have trouble in Nascar what do you think will happen to Danica?

Seriously, this thread is still active!

This same story comes up EVERY contract year. She is not coming to NASCAR. She's already sitting on a gold mine and there's no reason to go anywhere. Short seasons and the Earnhardt Jr. of her sport. :beerbang:

Nothing against Scott Speed or Ricky Stenhouse, but I'm sure there are a lot of drivers who could've won several races in the equipment he and Stenhouse were in.

Now that Speed, Stenhouse and Allgaier are gone and FK's getting wrecked out in everyone else's problems, look at how Justin Lofton's performing.

Speed and Stennhouse may have had better equipment but I think the D'Hondt stuff is very good too.

Agreed. I thought about this and I do believe she would be better off in IRL. But why not a challenge, especially when NASCAR starts throwing money. Don't be surprised when she is Driving the 4th Gibbs Godaddy car.

She's been there for three races, and probably would've had two top 3 finishes if not for bad luck. And this bad luck thing happens to everyone:rolleyes:.

Well, everyone except Jimmie Johnson :sarcasm:

You guys just miss the point entirely...there is no qualified woman right now nor will there be for some time, worthy of racing at the highest levels of Nascar...end of story.

All I'm saying is we're judging some drivers way too quick.

As far as waiting for the complete package to come along -- another driver I'd be keeping an eye on is Megan Reitenour from Ohio.

I wouldn't be surprised if NASCAR works to bring her over. That would kill the IRL with one swift stroke of the pen. Most of the IRL fans are Danica fans. She moves to NASCAR, and IRL would fall below USAR in popularity.

At the same time, I'd start up my own team to have her race if I were Tony George. His series is falling like a rock in popularity.
