Darlington Pre-race Race Thread

a simple yea or nay will do

who's been to Darlington ?

How 'bout a Labor Day Southern 500 ?

I never made it . . .

On the bucket list. I just hope I make it there before they dump my bucket out.

on the bucket list indeed

I had tentative plans to attend what turned out to be the last Southern 500 to be held on a Labor Day weekend (2003 I think)

the plans fell though and, 10 years later, I still haven't made time to see "the lady"

Really looking forward to Darlington.. love short track racing. Hope someone get's spun on the last lap haha.

Hell its only 10 and 20% , you must be looking at the cloud cover. :D Pop another top.

I loved the Labor Day race. Hot, slick, abrasive as hell. Drivers cussing the track, the car, other drivers, the crew, the weather --- Priceless.
Beyond priceless, listening to Big E cuss NASCAR for not calling the race due to rain. ROTFLMAO

And, forgot to add, I've been to The Lady. Walked across the track and just for grins, rubbed my hand across the pavement. Sure wish I hadn't done it --- like rubbing your hand across the roughest sandpaper you can imagine. Shredded the top layer of skin.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned it or not but Denny Hamlin will go the distance this week. I'm sure the FedEx guys are thrilled they won't see Vickers:D

Why? He's been running good just had bad luck...

And hopefully we won't have a rainy weekend...

Anybody else headed to the track this weekend? I'll be in the Tyler tower section Y. I'll try and send some pictures via tapatalk.

I hope the track surface starts wearing down soon at Darlington. It hasn't been the same since they repaved it. I liked the 4 lap tire life and the racing it created. Still the love the lady in black though, one of my favorite races of the year.

What a huge difference in the amount of tires the NNS and NSCS teams get over a weekend. I get that the NNS race is usually about 1/2 as long but they get 10 less sets of tires? Most likely have to use 2 just to practice and qualify. Which leaves.......... not much room for pit strategy. I think they should get 2 sets for P+Q and then 5 or 6 for the race in NNS.

NNS tire quota is in place to keep the tire costs down to help the little guy compete. It ain't broke, the trucks do it too. It was changed years ago along with other cost saving measures. Seems to be working just fine from my end.:)

I effin love this track! My pick looks quick in 1st practice! I hope weather cooperates. I'm not trying to watch 30 Clint Bowyer interviews..

Not saying it doesn't work well. I just didn't realize they got that much less.

hmm I am confused then.." I think they should get 2 sets for P+Q and then 5 or 6 for the race in NNS" .. never mind

That's what Darlington is all about . By the end of the cup race , pretty much everyone will have clipped the wall.

I know that but she's been bad everywhere except plate races. She is typically much slower then her teammates in a down year.. I'm not one of these haters and I understand the money she brings in but she would bring more money in if she was i don't know, successful.

Great lap by the Outlaw!

5 stinkin points for qualifying, yeeecchhh

Wow, Kurt must have thought he was still in an Indy car.:D Good job.

She was just outside the top 10 at Martinsville. One of the toughest tracks in all of Nascar.

I know what you mean , but plate races are not the only races that she can compete in . Last year at Montreal , she led 20 laps in a Nationwide road course race and was leading when she was taken out . This year at Martinsville in a cup race , she ran top ten a lot and ended up 12th , beating some very good drivers . I don't think she is any more ,or any less , than any other rookie at this point.

She's finished ahead of Stewart in several races this year.

She survived at Martinsville then anything else but I'll give her credit there. The graphic they showed today with Stenhouse and her results is very telling.. His runs are improving and she is not.

success is measured many ways. Danica is second in driver popularity...sponsors like that, Nascar likes that, more viewers and more revenue. hardcore race fans don't get that, they think winning is everything.

on the other hand there she is in 28th something place running Gilliland like it is the last lap and he is trying to run the same car as long as possible and she is on her second car in the race. Pretty frustrating from that end

I don't think winning is everything and again, I understand why she's in this position. A decent driver who is an attractive female. However, if she had more success on the race track, (top 20s every week at least) her popularity would slowly grow and if she somehow won a race? Talk about the $$$ rolling in then.
