Daytona 2024 Pre-Race Thread

Man Nascar needs something good and big to happen in the 1st couple weeks here to pull them out of this. So far, everything has just gone to complete crap on them this season.

Wouldn’t have been a problem if they had the negotiating skills to be on FOX in primetime more often. 6-8 PM start would have been better.

I respectfully disagree, for selfish reasons haha. As I mentioned in here already. I wanna watch with my dad, cause we watch all races together, and he works night shift. So the earlier it starts tomorrow, the better for me.

Anytime he’s off work, definitely Primetime however!

Strong El Niño winters tend to hammer the Sun Belt with rain and storms

Could be wrong but I believe the only time a postponed race has ended up being run the following night is when it's been dictated by weather conditions.

Don't think that NASCAR would want to keep all those haulers from hitting the road any later than they have to.

IMO it's nothing to do with nascar its the broadcast partners. Things like that happen when you let the tail wag the dog

If you had to work an extra day in your work week you'd probably want out as soon as possible.

Oh, they hate their job that badly? lol

And I meant primetime on Monday Night. Increased exposure, ratings & viewership brings more $$$.

I don’t actually think the 500 should really be on Sunday evenings although I think Sunday evening primetime racing is underrated.

I just emphasize because I am a ski instructor at a destination resort where the most common sticker is... "my job is better than your vacation" and it is still a grind most people do not realize. Dream jobs are great but as someone who works 6-7 days a week it's still tough sometimes.

Yep, sounds like Utah sometimes. I’m just saying that everyone collectively involved needs to grow the ratings a bit in NASCAR.

Running in primetime at 6-8 PM ET would be better than 4 PM, but I imagine FOX Sports has 100% say.

I frequently work 7 days a week on the road for a lot less money than what any of these guys are making so I'm sorry they're not getting sympathy from me.

The guys with private jets and million dollar motor homes need to realize that there's a line of people willing to do it for a lot less.

That’s just the drivers though. The fella checking the air in the tire isn’t living in the million dollar motor home. I try to be sympathetic to those guys, I couldn’t live in that grind that is the nascar season. Then throw in rain days like yesterday which is another day away from home…no thanks.

The wrench spinners, tire changers, hauler drivers, and others don't have those things. If people here want to see larger fields and more unchartered teams, concessions have to be made so they can afford to play. BJ McLeod doesn't have Rodger Penske's resources.

Those guys are still making more than probably most anyone on here. An extra night in a hotel is something these guys know is a possibility when they sign up for the job. I'm sorry you're not getting it from me. Following the race they're jumping on a chartered jet and flying home. It's not like they're staying 3 to a room in Motel 6 and having to drive home.

How about the food/bev/concession workers at the track? The cleaning crews? The parking lot monitors? Security guards etc, etc. are they making more than most here? Are they hopping on a chartered jet after the race?

Nah. Who cares about those people? Everyone involved with the racing industry is taking their chopper to work that is right next to the dock in their lakefront mansion

I can give them some sympathy but the discussion was about the race teams, not the guy selling hot dogs

My forecast says rain stopping at 10:45, so they might get a late start but definitely looks like it'll happen today!

Ever been to a postponed or rescheduled race? Some of those folks don't come back for postponed race. They have real Monday thru Friday jobs to get back to. This being the D500, more of them than usual for a delay will be back but certainly not as many as yesterday.

Just moved the Xfinity race to after the 500. Man they really want the 500 to go off on time
