Plenty of times! The complete chaos/wreckfest finishes are relatively new. The lack of fear and acceptance/embracing wrecking has completely changed pack tracks. I think 2007 Martin/Harvick/Bowyer on his roof finish when the culture started to change but it took a few years for finishes like that to be the norm. If 1988 was 2021 I wouldn't put it past Davey dumping dear old dad....lol
 
Honestly, current Denny >/= prime Dale Jr at plate racing.

If he wins his 4th today, he may be one of the top 2-5 greatest Daytona 500 drivers of all time.

Not sure why this became a thing.

Tandem drafting did something to plate racing philosophy. Prior to it, we generally had two lanes of racing most the day.

Follow the leader is nothing new.

All the races here Stewart dominated, Johnson in the summer 2013 race, Dale Dr. Gordon in 1997.

Bubba has to stop, I don't think they secured all the lugs on one of his wheels.

Oh well, he did well all race just unfortunate luck.
 
The Toyota strategy cost them the race.
 
Nearing 20 to go! Daytona Darwinism about to take hold. Who will be left standing?!?! How many red flags?! How many GWCs?!?!
 
Jeff Gordon probably looking at Denny trying to make moves and having flashbacks. Can’t tell you how many superspeedway races where he had the best car and nobody would partner up because they needed him behind them.
