Denny Hamlin has compression fracture of L1 vertebrae

Yeah pretty much... ``hey this is what MIGHT happen``. We won`t know until the middle of next week if he`ll miss M`Ville.. unless he is going to be there then I think we`ll find out earlier.

Hamlin just seems to have one of the shorter fuses in the garage. FTR I'm no Logano fan but at least he makes some effort to talk with people after the race who are frequently ready to kill him.
I don't have anything against Joey or Denny. I'm just not a big fan of theirs. But the only way I could see Denny not getting caught up in that wreck was if he just lifted and let Joey have the win. I don't think Joey deliberately wrecked him either. I just think because he wanted to finish in front of Denny because of last week and win the race so bad that he just took chances he normally wouldn't have took and drove over his head and let the car get away from him.

bingo X2

Just saw a picture of Denny in the hospital. Some friends brought him a bag of In N Out burgers. One was holding up a phone showing Denny's little girl.
In N Out burgers makes everything better. If Denny would have just brought Joey a sack of burgers then he would have forgotten all about last week. Maybe a sack of In N Out burgers is what Joey needs to send to Tony, and then all is forgotten. But, seriously I hope Denny recovers soon.

Yeah that's the problem. They were trying to throw around the wrong sack for the last 2 weeks.Burgers instead of balls.

I am certainly not claiming to be an expert but I broke both my L4 (football) and my C4 (surfing) when I was a teenager.

I didn't know I had broken my back (L4) until almost a year later when what started as pain sitting in chairs became unbearable and my body was starting to (literally) shut down. When I broke my neck (C4) I knew it was broken right away.

One thing I remember was that the docs told me every broken vertebrae is different in damage, symptoms and healing. The central nervous system travels down these bones and so damage there can effect the human body in all sorts of ways.

All I'm trying to say is that this injury could be very mild (comparatively) and something that won't bother Denny ever again after a few months or it could be something serious enough to cause him real trouble.

My broken neck, as bad as it was at the time (I almost died) has not bothered me in over 20 years. My lower back injury has caused problems to this day.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

I also think that Denny might have stayed down a lane cause he was told that the 18 was coming on the outside.
Had Denny been able to get closer to the wall, there may not have been any contact.

Tony is a Burger King guy!

Glad that you are still with us to share your story!
Huzzah!!

We all have our favorite drivers and sometimes drivers make us proud and sometimes they piss us off, but they are all human and they all have feelings just like us, and I doubt that any of them or any of us want's to see any driver seriously injured. It wouldn't surprise me if Joey has already visited or at least contacted Denny.

Denny knows he wasn't trying to wreck him or hurt him. Im sure this will be the end of their drama though. Tony doesn`t look like he`s done whining yet. Joey gona have to watch his back and make sure he keeps his hair out of Tony reach but even if Tony dumps him that`ll be one race and the way he`s been running I don't think it will keep him down.

Hopefully after Tony cools down and gets his head back on straight and realizes that maybe he was just a little over center on his attitude then maybe he will back down and rethink this issue. But time will tell.;)

I hope he'll be alright. That's very scary.. I hope someone advised the dude to order animal style frys, for Denny's sake.

One of the worst things with a lower back injury is sitting. Sitting puts more pressure on your back than standing. Hopefully he doesn't have any nerve damage to go along with that. I have a herniated disc in l4/l5 and that is NOT FUN and he has a fracture which is worse. This young man just became a father I wish him all the best He is in good hands.
don't have to tell me twice. I spend way too much time at the computer doing programming, and my back and arms show it.

Doesn't sound like he will be back in a car any time soon.
Yeah. :(

That sucks. I think he definitely was going to be a championship contender the way he's been racing so far this season. I'm not a big Hamlin fan but I hope he recovers fully and quickly and can get back out on the track.

I must admit, when I first saw the crash, it looked to me like Logano took Hamlin out... and in the process, was graced by a benevolent God, that he didn't end up killing him.

The more I watched replays, the less convinced I am that Logano spun Hamlin intentionally as a pay back, and more of a mind he was driving way, WAY over his head and just plain ran out of driving ability. Logano's problem was compounded by the apparent talent-ectomy he suffers from.

For whatever reason, this year Logano has been driving as if he has 1 gallon of talent in a 10 gallon bucket... somewhere along the line, he's confused talent with over aggression. As a result, he's smashed up a few cars, pissed off more than a few of his competitors and unintentionally pulled a bonehead move, which ended up seriously injuring Denny Hamlin.

I'm not Roger Penske... but if I was, you can bet, come Monday morning, there'd have been a "Come to Jesus" meeting with young Joey.

IMO, neither wanted to finish 2nd to the other and both could've done things differently so I'm saying 50/50.

Both racing hard for the checkered. That's what I wanted to see. Sometimes a wreck is the result. That's a shame but it's part of it.

Definitely. I hope Hamlin is back in the #11 for Martinsville and they race the hell out of one another. Enough with the Twitter tough guy act.

I agree. I'm not a Hamlin fan by any means but I certainly don't want to see any of these guys/gals get hurt. Accidents are going to happen. My concern is that we keep seeing these cars hit places that they weren't intended on hitting. You'd think after a while that these track owners would realize that anythings possible. Hell, throw an extra $10 onto my ticket and get some more of these put up in these places. Not an excuse for it IMO. The technology exists. Protect these guys the best you can. Who knows, maybe it wouldn't have made a bit of difference in this case, but then again, maybe it would have.

Considering the money that flows around Nascar, it hardly seems reasonable that cost would be an excuse to not utilize every safety innovation available. It's ironic that drivers can make millions of dollars per year yet can be seriously hurt - or worse - due to money or lack of

I try to stay out of these things , because we don't know what happened and the drivers may not either . But I did get an impression while watching it and am wondering if anyone else sensed it. It seemed to me that Joey decided to run Denny higher , take away his line going into the corner . He kept inching to the right . Denny ( either because Kyle was coming on the outside or because he didn't want to be moved) held his line . They touched a couple of times and lost control.

I think the #22 was out of tires and pushing it to win a race against a guy who has been mouthing off since Daytona. I think the #11 had no intention of letting some little punk show him up on the race track.

Personally, I hope they continue to disagree and race for the win every week.

Wow, I'm not a Hamlin fan, but I hope he gets better and get back to racing soon! However, I think the Hamlin/Logano feud is over. I think Gibbs and Penske will sit their drivers down and talk it out.

A truce , so to speak . Some of us will see that as a good thing , others ..not so much.

What happened sunday wasn't a result of a feud... ALL it was , was 2 racers racing hard for the WIN...LIKE WE WOULD EXPECT

C'mon, we've seen plenty of races to the finish that didn't have nearly as much contact as the race between Logano and Hamlin had on that last lap. You can't sit there and tell me that the incident wasn't the result of a feud when the possibility of a clean but hard race by both drivers was there.

As much as I don't care for Hamlin I know the sport would be really boring without people like him. And Logano is far from being one of the more aggressive drivers in my book. Did he drive down into the corner too hard? Yes. Is this the first time that's ever happened in a stock car? No. I don't believe what Logano did was overly aggressive or wreckless he was just trying to win the race and I think most fans find that kind of move perfectly acceptable at any point during the last lap, even more so during the last turn of the last lap.

Exactly. They were trading paint because they don't like each other. This was classic Yarborough/Allison stuff.

Two different drivers without a history and they probably would have been racing hard and both crossing the finished line.

I'd much rather see the kind of racing we say for the checkers last Sunday then the ever popular 1.5 second margin. That was good stuff and gives us plenty to talk about. Minus the injuries of course.
