Denny Hamlin vs. Kyle Petty

In My Opinion if Kyle Petty's last name wasn't Petty he would have been laying around in a commune stoned for the last 40 years. Unlike some of the others with a hand up like the Dillon boys he has never been a competitive race car driver. His MO is being an a**hole to get the press's attention and publicity but saying I'm sorry to keep from getting an ass whipping.
Sorry, but you are way off on that one, KP was a decent driver in the day and does a good job in the booth. Sure he can be irritating at times , but what commentator isn't?

IMO Kyle Petty is great. He tells it like it is.

AND I HEREBY PRONOUNCE DENNY HAMLIN...KING DOUCHEBAG! (clap clap clap clap) DENNY HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE THE BIGGEST DOUCHEBAG ON THE FACE OF THE EARTH? "Well it doesnt feel that amazing because I knew it would happen. I am so delightfully douchy that anyone would be a moron not to vote for me. I am thanking no one, because I did this one all by myself."

this is when denny showed me how arrogant he is. what a freaking jerk. the whole when a guy doesn't have cup experience, hello your racing the NW series.

the other thing is denny has issues right now, he is hurt weather that is mentally hurt and or physically who knows. his head isn't in the game.

I'm just glad that folks are starting to see that Denny is just a smug punk with a chip on his shoulder. He's an extremely talented driver but I've never liked his attitude. Whether he's throwing NASCAR or even his own teammates under the bus or when he's dismissing a future champion as a nobody, he's always had an arrogance to him.

Is Kyle Petty a moron? Sure maybe he is, but he also will call a driver or team out when he sees fit. Unlike most of the suck up, kiss ass reporting that goes on, it's a nice change.

I like Kyle's observations. I don't think he took well to loosing his ride (45/NOT). But he calls it like he sees it without the drama of Spenser - at least for now.

I thought Denny should have taken the whole year off after his medical leave and prepare for next season. I suspect playing with pain is part of personality. When he was interviewed after wrecking out of the race he said they couldn't find the right handling; he owned that track in the past so I wonder if he has lost something.

A lot of teams in the past have let the driver get back in the car after a medical leave but often they don't perform as they once did and lost the ride.

They were always best friends you know....

Good clip BTW, Hamlin runs into the back of a slower car, not paying attention, and then whining about it. His head is so far up it, he can't learn from his mistakes. he has a lot of talent, but he shoots himself in the foot over and over

In Hamlin's defense: He is great on short and flat tracks. There are a few that can get in a zone, and stink up a race, at times Hamlin can do that, well at least prior to the California injury.
I think Denny has the ability to be a champion.

But he is to emotional off the track, sometimes he acts like he needs nurturing, a psychologist, and a group hug, and other times it is an arrogant vendetta with Lagono, or with Brad when he was in the NWS. Sometimes I wonder if the agenda is more about working off a grievance, than actually winning the races.

I dont have his experience, but I would think when you are in the limelight with celebrity status you have to keep things in perspective. Anybody that accomplishes anything has to know that the world of talkers will be putting them down all the time. That is ingrained enough to be considered a standard operating procedure, and you will not win that fight, it is best just to let it go.

Usually it's is meaningless anyway and will not alter lives, and responding just empowers the critic a little more. Imo Denny could help himself more by being more focused on the things he can control; the next race.
That is what the great ones like Petty, Earnhardt, Pearson, Gordon and Johnson did, when they were dominating it was all about the next race, not their prissy feelings.

denny......like carl did.....has that "i was almost champion" attitude......can do no wrong ..an it shows up constantly.
seems carl outgrew his............denny hasn't.

don't always agree w/ kp......but like that he speaks his mind.....unlike most on nascar teat.

The captain nailed it!

Denny is just a drama queen.

He's always whining and crying about some wrong doing 90% of the time. Guy is just a extreme douchebag that tries to be cool and it just doesn't work.

He should know his limitations. He's never going to be at the level the great-greats have reached in this sport. He's always making himself look like he's the best thing out there.

Kyle Petty is a troll. If you take how he says things you'll see he wants a reaction. We all know fans of certain drivers who can't handle the slightest criticism or even a dose of reality without going off about hate, etc. Kyle hooks 10,000 of those very day. Then he goes on twitter and has some fun.

I love how the twits react, especially when it comes to Danica.

Not quite sure that you are saying Kyle 'has never been a competative race car driver' . I recall him as being ' the man ' at a couple of tracks . Losing the allstar race in one of the most famous finishes ever ,and being pretty good at road racing when it wasn't expected . He is 63rd on the all time win list , right around AJ Foyt , HOF member Cotton Owens and current driver Clint Bowyer . Different times , I know , but he's no Timmy Hill. He also raced in some pretty crappy rides .;)
Check my post, it says IN MY OPINION.

The beauty of an opinionated and outspoken person is the varying opinions they elicit. If Kyle Petty marched the beaten path, he would be wasting his time as much as DW does.
Why thank you.

I respect your right to your opinion but your opinion on Kyle Petty is just stupid. Makes you sound like a bitter old misinformed intolerant redneck.
You say you respect my right to have an opinion but then you call me stupid, bitter, old, intolerant and a redneck, sounds like you in this instance as always are the intolerant a**hole. By the way being a redneck is a good thing.
I decided to start following Kyle on Twitter a couple weeks ago. Quite frankly, the dude is a dick. Period.
YEP.

LOL! Is that you, SlicedBread?

I'm a little late to the party and don't have much to add to what most of you have already said, but count me in with the majority of you who are dogpiling on Hamlin. Every time I start to warm up to him, like this year when he first came back from his injury, he opens his mouth and makes me dislike him again. I respect his talent, but he just comes across as such a snooty, arrogant guy most of the time, which makes it very difficult for me to root for him. He just talks way too much sometimes and doesn't know when to quit.

I understand that K.P. criticized him and he certainly has a right to respond, but as Greg alluded to, in this case he would probably have been better off taking the high road and keeping his mouth shut. I was actually impressed when he did that earlier this year while in the booth for one of the Fox races. Chris Myers briefly tried to instigate and get him to say something bad about Joey, and he didn't take the bait. My respect for him grew a little on that one.

So yeah, Denny just needs to stop talking and drive his race car, like he did for the first few weeks after his return earlier this year.

I haven't heard Dale Jarrett ever say anything negative about any driver, but he had a hard time dancing around Denny's downshifting in the middle of the corner.

Well you know Denny. He thinks he's a pioneer of things.

Maybe he was figuring out a new way to shift in style.

A little more on this from Jayski.....

He continued to take shots at Petty after hitting the wall to end his day early at Pocono Raceway. "He's an analyst, but not a very informative one because he doesn't know anything,'' Hamlin said. "My beef with Kyle is he has a lot of opinions about a lot of drivers, but he never once talked to any of them. To be an analyst you've got to be in the trenches to find out the stories.''
Asked what Petty said that upset him, Hamlin said, "It's just saying I thought I was the face of JGR. What I really said was I was the face of [primary sponsor] FedEx and the #11 team."(ESPN)(8-5-20130)

UPDATE: Kyle Petty, the driver-turned-analyst with the unfiltered opinions, has angered someone new. Petty didn't mean to make Denny Hamlin mad with his televised comments before Sunday's race at Pocono. Turns out, Hamlin had every right to be upset. Petty admitted on Monday he had misinterpreted previous statements made by Hamlin, and the opinion Petty presented pre-race about Hamlin was incorrect. "If you are going to run your mouth, if you are going to dish it out, you gotta take it, and the bone of contention here is that Denny is 100 percent right," Petty said. "I can take it, I can say that I'm wrong and that I misinterpreted what Denny said." Petty would have reached out to Hamlin or apologized for making a mistake, but then came the "moron" tweet. "Denny's argument was a typical Twitter argument, he calls me a moron and then he goes personal," Petty said. "So I'm just not going to acknowledge it."

"multiple blink shift" i think it's called ! ha!

That's cold. Its some sort of disorder.

With that said, I wonder how he was allowed to race or even drive with that condition.

Looks like SPEED might have forced Petty to say that.

He doesn't mean a word of it. Specially when Kyle spoke the absolute truth.

Political correctness at its finest.

Is Kyle saying that he misinterpreted Denny's comment that he was the face of JGR ? If so , I think we did too . The statement I read was very easy to misinterpret .

just another instance of denny being a little girl.. shut up n drive... kyle is right... denny only has 3 top 5's and 4 top 10s this year... yeah he missed some races but if im not mistaken hes finished outside the top 15 for the past 6 races,.. cant blame his back on that... he's losin it... hes a douche anyway he should just be a tire changer

In My Opinion neither one is right and they are both mouthy asses especially on twitter, this is supposed to be racing not a game of mouthy one upmanship.

I agree with you, but I like Petty more than Hamlin so I'm on his side lol I mean Kyle is right about Denny's performance and that he wouldn't be there either way right now.

Everyone has a right to their opinion just like everyone has a right to express their opinion on said opinion. Just because I think your opinion is completely is without merit or intelligence doesn't mean that I don't respect your right to express it.

So, you think calling someone names and attacking them personally because they don't agree with you is ok because you "think" it is an opinion, well you are wrong, period.
