Denny Hamlin vs. Kyle Petty

I saw Kyle Petty on Race Hub and I thought explained himself pretty well. He made a comment about not getting personal on Twitter and he pretty much told Denny to come to him to discuss things. I think it is up to the older driver/generation to approach the younger generation of drivers to educate them how things are done. Kyle should go to Denny and discuss things personally - show him how it used to be done face-to-face.

And get called a moron a half dozen times?

Denny is a pompous a**wipe.

I don't have a dog in this fight , but Denny has got to be nuts burning bridges in this sport . He will run up against Kyle on his way down and have to eat his words . Either applying for a job at RPM or with some other owner who is friends with Kyle . Similar situation with Clint Bowyer (though not on his way down) who made some stupid comments about Michael Waltrip then had to eat his words.

Weren't Bowyers comments heat of the moment? I don't think anything Denny said THIS TIME will keep him from getting any open ride. What he said about Childress back in 2010 could keep him out of that organization.

JGR took some big chances the past 8 years by going with young talent. Hiring Matt and the success he's having might be putting pressure on Kyle and Denny. I just can't figure the stupidity of Denny not dealing with his back now rather than risking next season. I have a feeling he wants to be out there if Logano has a chance to make the chase. He just might opt for surgery when the chase starts.

I could see that moron pulling some bonehead move to take Joey out if it looks like he'll make he chase. I hope not. I'd be pissed. Although he says it's to be there for his sponsors, I'm not sure if I buy it.

Just sayin this is a very small sport . 15 to 20 owners? Making enemies and burning bridges is very , very short sighted .

I think you're right about Denny having to eat his words.. the funny thing about Boyer calling Waltrip the worst driver in Nascar history is actually pretty spot on.. I think even Mikey realizes he was lucky his brother's name carried a lot of weight or he woulda been slinging merchandise from a hauler

There , ya see , I missed all that . What I saw was 4 wins including the Daytona 500, 4 poles ,41 top 5's ,1400 laps led and close to $46 million in prize money. If that's the worst driver , I'm really lost.:(

The guy has been racing in Cup for 30 years and never won on anything but an RP track.. after almost 800 starts having only 4 wins isn't anything to boast about. He did lead 1400 laps, the trouble is he's ran over 215,000 laps in his career (just over half of 1%). As far as his earnings, Joe Nemechek has been running for 8 yess less than Mikey and has made the same amount. Let's not even talk about how many yellow flags and cars he's taken out. Mikey is a nice enough guy and a good anouncer for the Truck seriers but IMO didn't deserve seat time in the Cup series

I just can't bring myself to look at a two time Daytona 500 champion as the worst driver in nascar history.. no name on that trophy should be on the same list with the worst in history.. just sayin.

It seems every other year he takes stabs at different organizations.

Back in 07 he accused Hendrick Motorsporst of been lucky and that they get away with doing things and that was why they were so fast with the COT and what have you.

This guy better appreciate his current ride because if he loses it he'll be lucky to be in a position Yeley is at right now. Scrubbing for ****** rides.

Quite a few underserving drivers have won the Daytona 500. Doesn't make them good but definitely bad.

Danica as bad as she is, could win at Daytona. Would that make her good in your eyes?

Derricke Cope won the 500.. Ward Burton won the 500. It does imo take some skill to survive the 500 but if you got the speed, anyone can win it.

MW isn't the worst driver.. although I don't think he deserved to be teammates with Dale.

Its funny how everyone immediately thinks of Derrick Cope when discussing winners who really didn't earn their win there. :D

Talk about gift wrapping the grand jewel of the sport.

One of his Daytona 500 wins was when his boss Dale Earnhardt was blocking for him and Dale Jr, Dale Sr. was in a fatal crash, that was how he won that one and the other one was not pitting when the others did and the rest of the race got rained out. If you had been around for that 30 years you would remember week after week of him crashing other drivers and himself, he drove his car to the RV lot once to keep Ricky "The Rooster" Rudd from kicking his ass, the freakin RV lot. We all have our own memories and opinions and those are some of mine.

In my experiences - Michael is one of the biggest pricks in the sport. Kyle is one of the easiest to get along with. And Denny is crazy...but in a "I definitely want to hang with him, because anything is possible" good kind of way. Just throwing that out there.

Mike Waltrip makes a far better owner than driver. Darryl made a far better driver than analyst. Put their heads together and you'll have a giant ass.

I think it's refreshing to have a guy say what's on his mind, and not worry about being PC. I used to like DH when he first came to NASCAR, he used to be a Gomer like county boy who appreciated his chance in the big leagues....after a few wins he turned into a total Dick!!!

If you can name one driver who has caused more cautions and wrecks than Mikey you might be able to sway me

Speaking of which, who amongst us could have ever thunk that MW racing would be competing or a championship? Not me for sure.
he does have a lot of a six time winner x-employees working for him.

don't forget....he's a fighter too! whacked little lake speed while lake still in car an had helmet on ! ha!

Actually , if I remenber correctly , Dale Sr handpicked Michael to be his driver .He must have been crazy.

I wasnt a Dale fan, I respect him greatly but that still doesn't change my opinon. Nascar is too much of a buddy sport.

Back to the original posting... I've never liked Denny. This is NASCAR. How can you bitch about being raced hard for a win & being roughed up a little? If your panties are that much in a wad about "rubbin's racin", go try out for Indy Car. When Denny races he acts like he is God and nobody should touch him. KP was a fair driver in his day and I think he knows what he's talking about. He doesn't come from the "we gotta find the next young pretty boy Jeff Gordon" mentality of racing. He's more old skool rough & tough. You see where Denny's mentality got him? KP is light years ahead of DH in his racing thought processes.

Not to be too much of a KP or MW defender...but racing was soooo much different in the early to mid 90's than it is today...the multicar teams were just really starting to come into play and the manufacturers played a big part in how well certain brands would do on the track. MW raced with chuck riders Bahari team and had plenty top tens but couldn't get wins, but when you look at the # of quality teams (RCR, Hendrick,Sabco,Bahari,Wood Bros,RahMoc,Penkse,Rousch,Yates, Jr Johnson and assoc.,Melling, etc) in 1992 for example, it's totally understandable how hard it was to get a win back then.
I think a lot of people only look at what they saw of a driver at the end of their career and feel there were all never was's.
I would kill to be able to time travel back to 1990 on and enjoy the mfg battles on concensions for downforce and drag, and the awesomeness of the smaller one car teams all over again. sigh...:(

The way DALE handle the way the fords ganged up on him 1990 at Atlanta was awesome.

Kyle does a good job of finding ways to keep people talking about himself. Smoke's passion for racing will no doubt wag the pony tail soon, unless I missed it happening already.

Like most have already said, I'm not a Hamlin fan unless some upstart punk is trying to sucker punch him while he's still sitting in his car, but Denny needs to put the phone away and watch 'Le Mans' or 'Grand Prix' before he talks about good movies.
Denny Hamlin says the best racing movie is Driven… really

I'm with ya on those two. I have a copy of LeMans, I watch it in the off season when I am needing my fix. I am going to get a copy of Grand Prix. Sorry, but I have never warmed to Hamlin's style..movie star, celebrity drama. He was hard to ignore when he was winning, but I tried my best.

Driven is so cheesy I kind of like it.

But as far as it been the best racing movie, ROFL.

Even the Fast and Furious ones are light years better than Driven.

In My Opinion neither one is right and they are both mouthy asses especially on twitter, this is supposed to be racing not a game of mouthy one upmanship.
Mouthy one up manship has been a part of Nascar from day one!
