Elliott Sadler named replacement for Hamlin. This per Frontstretch.com
Sources have told the Frontstretch Elliott Sadler has been chosen as the primary sub for Denny Hamlin. All that’s preventing an official announcement, as of Wednesday AM is a few details to work out with sponsor Fed Ex. Sadler, who was long pegged as the likely choice is driving full-time for Joe Gibbs Racing in the Nationwide Series and was scheduled to drive a fourth Cup car in a limited schedule later this season. That Cup announcement has been put on hold due to Hamlin’s injury; ironically, Sadler’s expected fill-in role will serve as an extended audition.

Just because we needed another Hamlin thread.

I really like sadler as a guy, but in this case I think vickers or dinger would give the car a better run.

Goodluck to Sadler, this is his big second chance. Speaking of second chances, wish vickers would get another shot somewhere.

Sadler or Vickers were the obvious choices, "ekspeshully" since they are both full-time N'wide drivers for JGR.
But I think that DPK makes a good point. Brian already has a part-time CUP agreement with MWR and may very well be the full-time driver of that car in 2014, while Sadler has no such CUP conflict.

Should any of Sadler's proposed CUP races in a 4th JGR car double-up with him replacing Denny, Joe and JD can certainly find a replacement for those few races. Maybe Michael McDowell, for example who is a part-time N'wide driver for JGR...

dpk, you're just like that hypocrite Tony. These are the rules, yadda, yadda, yadda.........unless I say otherwise. If I could get to you now, I would pull your hair!

Ahhh, okay? o_O

If you are talking about this replacement thread. I guess I look at it differently than you. I felt that this was something that warranted it's own discussion rather than polluting a thread about his back issues and recovery. Certainly if a mod disagrees, they'll merge it.

Goood for Sadler. I hope he gets in the #11 and smokes 'em.

Sadler is the best replacement they could name. I think he'll do fine.

Geez, dpk, I was joking.

Hell yeah! The pride of Emporia back in a good cup car!

2nd chance ? sadler's been like an ole cat. ain't sure how many lives he got left ! ha!
his sponsor "smooze" has kept him alive so far.
but this may be his last good shot at cup tho ?? time ta poop...or get off tha pot ! ha!

I like Sadler. I'd like to see him succeed at this. He's going into a fine piece of equipment and it's time to step it up.

I'm afraid that you could be correct.

Me too. I really, really like Elliot and the class he brings to the track every week. I just think the level of competition these new drivers are bringing is too much for many of the present 'marginal' stars in cup, so Sadler really doesn't stand a chance.

Yep! Sadler will be getting rot gut and the top shelf stuff will be poured into Kyle and Matt's cups. ;)

sadler is proving in NW that he doesn't have what it takes. I like the guy, but the competition has left him behind.

I don't like the guy but I agree 100% with this statement. I think this chance he will get in the Cup series will show that he still doesn't have what it takes.

Sadler came in second in NW last year, caught some bad luck at the end of the season and finished second, he led the points quite a bit. This year Bristol and Daytona wasn't good. Got hit pretty hard at Bristol and finished 36, 15th I think at Daytona. The rest he finished in the top ten, not that great, but the season is young. I think he will do about what Hornish did in cup, run pretty solid, but I don't think there will be a line formed to sign him up to a cup ride.

look at drivers that come into unfamiliar equipment and get it up to speed, dinger and vickers have done the best at this. I thought even regan smith did a good job last year in the 88. I would like hanging out with sadler but I really just think he is done in cup. he did nothing in cup cars before he left the series.

He's only won 3 cup races and made the Chase once (which is more than some other purportedly great drivers) but I'll throw the blanket excuse that he didn't always have the best equipment.

I think sadler is a good driver. Not a great driver, there is a fine line in the drivers seat. Time will tell. I also think Vickers is gonna be there one day.

BREAKING NEWS!

Sadler may not be the interim driver of the #11. Jenna Fryer of the Associated Press reporting that JGR and MWR are in talks about... Mark Martin! From Jayski:

UPDATE: Joe Gibbs Racing said Thursday morning that they were not prepared to announce a replacement driver for Denny Hamlin yet. The Associated Press' Jenny Fryer tweeted, "the word on the street is [Mark Martin] is in play for #11 in a straight swap with [Michael Waltrip Racing] for [Brian Vickers], except Talladega."(3-28-2013)

My mind is blown!

I also wonder if they think Hamlin might miss more than 6 weeks. I don't think Martin (or Gibbs) would be interested in a 5-6 race drive in the #11.

I hope Elliot goes in and wins 3 or 4 races right off the get go. I love a good underdog story. Remember how Smith on the 49ers lost his Qb job? Injury. Well..............................................

Mark Martin and GrubbaDub? Oh that could be a lethal combination I think Darian would be insane with a driver like Mark to work with. And with bookends like Mark and Matt, Kyle will also be strong and stable. hmmmmmm
