Denny's replacement named

Here is part of the ESPN article. Joe Gibbs
"Our goal is each and every week, whether it's Denny or somebody else in there, we want to encourage FedEx and say this is why this program is valuable for their team,'' Gibbs said. "We're going to do whatever we can to make sure they have good experience week in and week out.''

Sounds like UPS is going to pick the driver.:idunno:

Yep, because FeDex is UPS's b!tch!

FedEx is signing Joe's check on the 11 car. And it sound like to me, they are in the loop on driver selection.

That can't be good for Elliott Sadler for the team to basically express a lack of confidence in him.

Are there any races on the schedule which wouldn't allow him to race Cup and NWS on the same weekend? I asked that because if he's going to seriously race for a NWS championship, I suppose Gibbs wants him focusing on that.

It sounds to me like FedEx is part of the decision making... guess they'd rather have a 40 time NSCS winner future hall of famer in their car instead of someone who's never done much of anything. Mark has recorded victories at each of the five upcoming venues (Martinsville, Texas, Kansas, Richmond and Talladega).

Speaking of - I bet Richmond International Raceway's not happy about Hamlin sitting out. That track already struggles with attendance and most of the fans who go to that race are Hamlin fans. That race could easily end up being 80% empty.

In the article Micheal Waltrip sounds like he is ready to take one for the "team". But the "team" probably needs to $how the love to MWR. I sure wouldn't switch Martin for Sadler unless there was some "boot" involved

I like Sadler but if I had a chance to put Martin in the seat, I'd jump on it in a second.

It's a win-win for MWR. It's not like Brian Vickers has been a backmarker when racing the #55 and Mark's already not running two of the upcoming races.

I suppose that maybe Toyota has their nose in this and are encouraging JGR and MWR to work something out mutually/equally beneficial.

That brings up another point, Martin..does he want to do it. He could nix the deal too, I don't think they can make him if he doesn't want to do it.

Yep. I'm sure they're contemplating all the "ifs" as well. You've almost got to be prepared for the worst case scenario. What happens if, three weeks from now, they announce Hamlin will miss the rest of the season? Suddenly, that guy you thought would only be racing for five weeks is suddenly in for the rest of the season

Bottom line, it sounds like JGR doesn't think Sadler can get the job done. Mark goes to JGR and MWR's "sacrifice" is putting a guy who's almost won a few races for him in the #55.

Martin is a racer and it's not like the #11 team is 2nd tier, so I'd hope he'd snap up the opportunity.

Given the circumstances, I find that unlikely. Mark's always been a team player. I remember him saying, in 2004, that he was retiring from racing full time at the end of '04 or '05 but he stuck around when Roush asked him to. I really wonder what happened between Mark and Jack.

don't think it can be wrapped up in a nice neat bundle, too many people involved, with the "gorilla with the big stick" FedEx. I can see it now..we'll have a meeting and get back to ya.:)

This just occurred to me.. Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin get into it leaving Hamlin in the hospital and they replace him with the guy he bumped out of the way for the win last year at Pocono.. I'll bet this won't be the last time you hear that coincidence brought up.

This is a lethal combination. Mark and Matt work extremely well together. Remember, Matt Kenseth was Mark Martin's protegé. And the best thing for Kyle Busch to have Mark around him for a few weeks and Kenseth around - two people who know how to handle adversity without losing their cool.

Just a coincidence. Mark's never been the type of guy to go out and dump people. I remember when he wrecked Keselowski for the win at Vegas several years back, nobody felt worse than Mark did. Pocono last year was just good, clean, hard racing. Logano could've dumped Mark and didn't and Mark could've forced the issue and didn't.

Anyone have Dustin Long as a friend on Facebook? Some of the most ignorant statements I've ever seen being spouted off in the comments on his post.

No I don't mean to say they will have issues I know they are fine with each other and Mark is probably the cleanest racer out there. I just find it a funny coincidence and I'd bet someone will bring it up on Race Day or something.

It'll be interesting to see what Mark can do with JGR for a few weeks. They've been nothing but fast all year in both qualifying and racing. And it's nice to see Vickers will be in the same seat for a good period of time.

With Mark Martin they should be even faster in qualifying lol he had 4 poles last year and he only ran a partial schedule. I'm looking forward to seeing how many points Vickers can accumulate(theoretically, as he will get none as he is a full time nns driver) being in the car for 5 weeks straight.

no wonder mwr 's been so good. just part a' jgr 6 car team ! via toyota $$. ha!
ta match hendrick/shr i guess.

so probably toyota makin decisions.......an payin martin ? " loyal company man " ! ha!

That was good stuff. Tony got pissed and took out 3 cars and payed the price. I really liked Vickers that day.

Dale Jr. said in his two books that driver contracts with major NASCAR teams also are personal endorsement contracts with the sponsors, so I assume FedEx would have major say in who drives the car.

maybe.....but ain't toyota a sponsor too? fedex already had mo eyeballs on their logo ....w/ all tha hoopla..than they predicted ....fer whole yr..........happy as a houndog w/ a ham bone ! ha!

an how'd mark get outa his supposed mwr contract so easy...ta just slip over ta jgr?

How many of the next 5 races was Mark Martin scheduled run in the 55? Vickers was scheduleled for Martinsville. Martin was scheduled for Texas, Kansas and Richmond and Waltrip for Darlington, May 5th. That's the 6 weeks. So Mark will miss 3 races in the 55 if he's driving the 11.

I'm also willing to bet that there were more than a few hundred dollar bills involved - yo...
