Dinger offered the 47, Labonte a spot in the JGTD Organization 2014

wow, I can't believe AJ went for the 47. I guess he had no other options, which shocks me just as much.

On Nascar Raceday last week it was reported that a technical alliance w/ RCR was all but a done deal for JTG and that they offered the seat to Ryan Newman, not AJ. It sucks that just when they're getting good equipment they bump Bobby out.

I hope that was untrue and that JTG has to go it alone again next yr, then we'll see if it was the driver or the ****** JTG chassis' and sluggish Triad motors.

I too am surprised by the 3 year deal, but I guess AJ wanted a contract and he's probably very happy to be back in Cup now. Good for him, maybe he can improve that team maybe not, we'll see.

JTG must have sold him on their program, I'm curious to know if a possible new alliance deal had anything to do with that.

We can speculate but the insiders probably had a lot more real working information (captain obvious I realize). AJ probably took the best available offer, maybe FRR informed him as a professional courtesy to look somewhere else.

I think we are just performing some S.W.A.G. with a limited set of facts.

He got a ride and that is all that matters to him right now.

3 yrs !! guess tha next shoe ta drop is who tha big team alliance is with ?

I'm thinking this move is going to be more damaging to AJ's carrier in a few years than his drug suspension. Three years in a crappy ride... other team owners will think he's a crappy driver by the end of that and no top team will want him.

he is not going to be for three years if he drives the wheels off the car or doesn't get the job done. One way or the other he will be gone.

Why does he have to drive the wheels off it? They typically fall off that car by themselves.

Let's all take a moment to realize AJ is not going to lit up NASCAR on any ride so whether he does good or bad, who cares. Its not like he's a superstar to begin with.

what if jtgd allies w/ penske......ford...2014 ?

just can't seem ta get past penske/ dinger i guess ?

Other team owners are not average race fans . They can see excellent race car driving anywhere in the pack and do not base their opinions solely on how drivers finish. They can even evaluate talent racing in other series .It's mainly on forums like this where winning is the only thing that matters.

If JTGD is taking FRR's spot with RCR then that is what probably sold AJ. That car will probably be so much better now.
That's the thing, now all of a sudden it's a car that finishes in the high teens wk in wk out. They'd be good on road courses, but just ok everywhere else.I say that because Harvick has won but the rest of the RCR drivers have not. As bad fast as Kurt has been he still hasn't won or secured a chase spot. Menard and Burton, guys who are both better than AJ are barely in the top 20 in points.

So it will be a significant upgrade in equipment, but AJ isn't gonna put that car in contention for a chase spot. AJ would be the worst driver out of all of the RCR guys.

I am not the biggest AJ fan, but if JTGD get the same deal FRR has with RCR then I think AJ can put that car in the top 15 week in and week out.

Edit: I also think if Bobby was still with them if they had this deal from RCR he'd do the same if not better than AJ.

That would mean that he'd be sitting in the top 5 in points. Do you really have that much faith in the guy? He's a good driver and could certainly have a Cup career, but within the top 5 in the sport today.? I don't know.

well maybe I exaggerated a bit with the week in/week out, but I think you get the point. Much like Kurt is doing today. I see no reason why he could't run top 15 at most races, with the average amount of problem races that most drivers have.

I agree, JTG will be in the mid teens next year, Bob Dilner just said on Race Hub that JTG will not only announce AJ as the driver this weekend, but also anounce a manufacturer switch to RCR Chevys.

I think the way this has all played out there must be some bad blood between the team and Bobby. From them pulling Bobby from the car to them lying about how many races it would be for. Brad Daugherty was on tv yesterday and when the conversation switched over to Ryan Newman he said that Ryan was who they really wanted in that car before he went to SHR, and how disappointed he was that they couldn't get a deal done. You also have the other owner saying that the 47 car should be a top 10 team week in week out, basically saying it's the driver. Also Bobby said a few days ago that he has not been told what the plan is next yr for the car, that same day Tad admitted they offered the ride to AJ.

It just seems like a lot of negativity in the media from the team.

Now, I think Bobby is done but believing that the current state of the car should be top ten every week is asinine.

rcr alliance. sounds like jtgd is wishin/hopin..... ta duplicate 78's run this yr..... in 2014 ?

Hmmm...I think AJ is a major bonehead for doing this. I thought he may get a NW deal from Penske in the 22 but I guess Penske wants cup drivers in it o_O

Also a 3 year deal...WTF AJ? Only explanation I can think of is that JTG got a deal with RCR. In that case I am ****** excited for AJ and cant wait to see him get his first cup win (prob at WG).

It's called a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush..That ride for three years is worth millions in winnings and it starts right now.

Well the only thing that pisses me off is how they went cheap when Bobby was their driver. Bring in Bobby and end their partnership with MWR, expecting Bobby to pick up the slack. Now that the ride has gone down they dump Bobby and grab a good partnership with RCR. The ride will get better, and everyone will be talking about how much better AJ was for them than Bobby was. It is BS. Do I think AJ is better than Bobby right now? Possibly, but that ride is horrific, and now is going to get better. I just wish they made this move this or last season.

Well, AJ just got the team qualified in the top 15 on a **** engine program.
Have anything to do w/ going out last? Stenhouse got the pole even though he practiced 23rd. AJ was 30th in practice before he made a mock qualifying run which got him up to 17th in practice, sound good right? Until you realize he was one of the few drivers who actually made a mock qualifying run, everyone else made their fastest lap on lap 1, not the last lap they ran as was the case w/ AJ and the 47.

He'll finish in the 20's.

It was a step up when he went to work for JTG, he was driving worse junk the year before that. this year Bobby has really gone downhill..time for new blood for the team.

I am not saying Bobby deserves the ride over AJ. Just that it sucks that NOW JTGD recognizes that their cars are not up to par and our making a move to better equipment.

better equipment? where is that mentioned anywhere? I thought he had a three year deal driving the same toyota junk that Labonte was driving..except A.J. got them their first top ten finish this year. oops.
