Dodge To Return, Talking to Teams

Ray Alexander, on hand for the LX-centric Spring Festival 8, reported that Ralph Gilles told him that NASCAR funding has been approved, and that Chrysler is talking to teams. While no details can be provided, because of the sensitivity of the negotiations, this is the first time a Chrysler official has confirmed that the company is working on a NASCAR re-entry.
Last month, Mr. Gilles told Allpar in New York, in answer to a question about NASCAR, “Oh my God, I can’t talk about that right now. No comment on that.”
Chrysler’s return to NASCAR presumably remains contingent on being able to sign up competitive drivers and support crew (e.g. car and engine builders). NASCAR racing is highly competitive on the technical side, with unique requirements. Chrysler’s budget in 2012 was reportedly $45 million, or $27 per car sold in the United States (including Jeeps and Rams).

That would be fantastic if they were able to get back into the sport!

Is RCR/Front Row/Ganassi not the only group with an engine department ?

Ganassi is no longer in the engine business. The smoothest way I see this going down is if Dodge builds and supplies engines to teams. I wouldn't mind RCR going to dodge. Lets face it they are an after thought with Chevy.

As a matter of fact Richard would be stupid to not sit down with dodge.

WHOOPI! Would love to see Dodge back in the fray! And especially the King going back if it happens.

Didn't dodge just leave LOL. They should concentrate on building quality everyday vehicles.

It would be a little odd to see RCR in a Dodge but I think eventually it will be worth it. As someone else said, RCR is now an afterthought with Chevy and it will be even worse once Harvick leaves for SHR. If Childress can come to an agreement with Dodge they will be the big dogs in that camp.

An afterthought? The 29 is a factory backed car and ECR motors is supported by Chevrolet and they also supply Chevrolet's entries in Grand Am and other series. Dodge needs RCR, and RCR needs their money. It's a perfect marriage at the perfect time and I fully expect it to happen. I think it's survival for RCR and obviously Dodge needs a motor program.

If it were to happen, how many teams do they bring? Front Row ? Ganassi ? Phoenix ?

I think they bring Furniture Row for sure and I think FR would expand to two cars. Ganassi IDK. I'm not convinced he's not selling. Very little success and a team that's been in turmoil for a long time, if there's out I think he takes it. So depends on who buys it and if they really want to cut all those bodies off. I'm sure if Dodge returns RPM will join shortly after. Probably after their contract ends with Ford. I don't see 10 Dodges unloading at Daytona next year though.

Sure they may provide factory support but I doubt they'd be devastated if they lost RCR. As long as HMS and SHR are putting the Bowtie in victory lane consistently they must be pretty pleased.

Didnt the RAM just win truck of the year and didnt the Dart win best value or something along those lines.

LOL every north american company has one of each that also won those awards or something with a similar name. They still build crap.

Likely damage control, someone leaked something they shouldn't have. We can also look at it this way since nothing is signed yet... if RCR does not sign with Dodge and remains with Chevrolet for 2014 they will have to get their engines from HMS

Ranks right up there with the same style exhibited by international media when the manhunt for the Boston Bomber was going on. Gossip and rumor keep this forum alive and full of speculation.

Yeah , but if it ever did happen , there would be a lot of 'testing the water' leaks , more speculation, more denials , then the big news event 'this has been the worst kept secret in the garage area' . Keep an eye on the smoke .

When I read the thing about "water leaks" I thought you were talking about my Dakota. :D

RCR to Dodge picking up steam again. According to AR1.com, RCR will be the flagship with Andretti Autosport hiring Kurt Busch to drive a Dodge. No word on Petty or FRR at this point.

thanks, that is pretty weak, but one can hope, be a trip with Michael and Mario on the pit box.

I hope Dodge comes back in! Maybe with a new team + FRM + RCR + RPM?

Interesting. Last year I was saying RCR/Gnassi/DEI would be a good fit for a Dodge reentry. It could explain Gnassi exiting that trio and going to HMS, or that decision could have been based on the lack of performance in 2012.

Update 15

You need a sub to read it unfortunately.

I liked it when reporters were held accountable for what they reported.
