Enough Is Enough Full Season Championship.

So far any changes to the playoff and point systems were always announced at the January 'Media Day'. I don't expect to hear anything about the 2026 championship before that.
I would expect Nascar to hold an announcement about the championship format in reserve, in case of adverse news about the 23XI/FRM lawsuit. If Nascar wants to dilute media coverage about the lawsuit, trotting out a new and better championship format would be a useful way to do that.

Here me out here; Chase for the Cup, but instead of 10 races with 10 drivers, we extend it to 36 races and there's no specific amount of drivers eligible and it's just whoever has the most points at the end of race 36 wins.

Wait a second...
Call it the race for the championship this January at Daytona and driver so in so won the championship 36 races later.

Under Brian's leadership that may have been a selling point.

EVERY RACE IS A PLAYOFF RACE!!! Game 7 moments all year long!

After the Daytona 500, cut the field to the top 36 cars. Those cars will compete for the title over the next 35 playoff races.

This should be the most no brainer decision NASCAR has ever made. Fans have been screaming to go back to 36 race format since this elimination format first came out and Ryan Newman almost won the championship.

Let's double down on that idea and go all in on elimination style. Starting at Daytona the last remaining charted car in points is eliminated from contention. Last man standing at Homestead is champion. Royal Rumble style. Just don't wreck in the 500. ;)

Despite falling TV ratings and overwhelming support for a 36 race non playoff points system. lol.
Do they have any idea what is going to happen if a driver who is in the playoffs wins with a lesser record? Do they think the majority of fans are going to say oh, that's great, just what we were asking for lol.

I don't know why NASCAR continues to pretend it's still considering a full 36-race system. They've released a TV schedule that denotes the playoff races, and they've barred Cup driver from Truck and O'Reilly playoffs. Does the right hand not know what the left is doing?

Next they'll tell us Fido went to live on Grandpa's farm.

It seems as though many are thinking (hoping) that the playoff race denotations on the schedule are only there as a placeholder and that NASCAR will maintain the status quo until they announce a format change. Unfortunately the only evidence that supports this theory is that a 3-3-4 playoff system has been the least popular format amongst the fans and industry especially since the finale. Dale Jr also called out the 3-3-4 format on his podcast.

On one hand I struggle to see how NASCAR goes with the option that no one would be happy with based on every poll I've seen. But this is NASCAR and they have an almost uncanny knack for shooting themselves in the foot, especially when it comes to trying to interpret fan reception.

Well, there's also the increase in the number of Truck / O'Reilly races Cup drivers are allowed to participate in.

On the one hand, it could be argued that NASCAR would only allow that if there were going to be more races the Cuppers would be eligible for. A non-playoff schedule allows Cupper to run 7 more races in each of those series, so the additional Cup-eligible races aren't as large a percentage of the schedule as it seemed when they were announced.

On the other hand, the lower series teams want to schedule those Cup drivers and sell those sponsorships as soon as possible. Delaying the announcement makes it harder to do that. Potential sponsors may have already signed with someone else for earlier in the season.

Que sera, sera, Doris.

Whatever playoff we end up with I just hope they finally get rid of the win and you're in.

I want to see the best 10,12.... whatever guys running for a championship at the end of the season. Not someone finishing 4th in the regular season and not making the playoffs because the 30th place guy backed into one at Daytona
