F1 2024 News/Misc.

14th in the F2 championship, yeah he's ready.
Tbf, he was on pole at Jeddah before he withdrew to sub for Sainz in the Ferrari. He’d probably be around 8th or so if he completed that weekend in the F2 car. And he finished 6th last year as a rookie.

But he has shown Haas and Ferrari through all of their private test sessions, sim work, and FP1 sessions that he’s prepared for the gig. F2 performance just isn’t valued anymore, especially when it’s apparent Prema don’t have the chassis setup figured out for the new car this year. This is probably going to be the fourth straight season where the F2 champ doesn’t graduate directly to F1 the next year. It’s unironically much more a rung on the Road to Indy ladder than anything else right now.

Paul Aron's performance is something else considering Mercedes dropped him and went all in on Antonelli and Vesti.

I wonder if he’ll be jettisoned off to sports cars like Vesti has been this year. There’s just a crazy backlog of talent that come up through the regional series and then F3/F2, then just have nowhere to advance to in F1.

Don't want to give away the result, but the Silverstone F2 sprint race might have shown us which way the F1 driver market may go.

More good drivers for WEC!

Right now, FP1 Silverstone has has very interesting.

One quick note, when you build your entire team around one car your second driver is always going to struggle.

For sure, lots of great paid driving opportunities elsewhere in the racing world right now. In a lot of other times these youngsters would just be screwed. IndyCar, Formula E, IMSA, WEC, GTWC are all viable for young drivers who come up through European junior open wheel.

There’s a Hungarian site reporting Haas and Toyota may be closing in on a deal to include sponsorship and possibly even take over chassis build responsibilities from Dallara.

Oscar Piastri gets his first race win in Formula 1 by winning the Hungarian GP but it didn't come without some drama.

Esteban Ocon will drive for Haas from next season as a replacement for Kevin Magnussen. He has signed a multi-year deal to drive for the American Formula 1 team.

If FP1 is any indication, Max is going to bury everyone.

McLaren got one-two in FP2 and it seems they will be hard to beat on Sunday. Only Max can be the real threat to them but he will start the race at 11th spot at best after his 10-place grid penalty. This will be the last race before the summer break so all teams will be looking to finish this leg on a high and there is no surprise to see seven of the ten teams have come into the Belgian Grand Prix with updates to their cars.

Perez starting P2 and Verstappen's mired back in 11th after a penalty. And Max's Red Bull was 7 tenths faster than Leclerc. This is literally handing victory to Checo on a silver platter if he can't get it done I'd expect him out of Red Bull after the break.

McLarerens are faster.

Checo's long run pace is pretty terrible as well. Slower than Max, both Mclarens and even Hamilton and the Ferraris.

A safety car could easily throw a wrench into things.

I think Red Bull and Mercedes are crazy for not going after Sainz. Maybe there was another available talent that was just as good but I don't think so.

Sainz has finally committed to a decision. Williams bound.

Hit translate, it’s in German.

If this ends up coming to fruition it’s pretty low-risk for him. One-year deal with an escape clause in case Mercedes or Red Bull decide to go in a different direction with their second seats later this year. I can’t really blame him for not going with Alpine or Sauber at the moment either.
