Fair and balanced thread.

I remember my first live race --- the first time all 43 cars came by, I was hooked --- and that was just the pace lap. LOL
There is nothing like feeling the horsepower from your head to your toes.
I celebrated my 50th birthday at Charlotte. The RP driving school was giving ride-alongs --- I took one and knew then why those guys raced.

For all it's foibles and missteps, NASCAR is my chosen sport ----
:D

A lot of the sentiments here are dead on though. I love any sporting event but nothing tops the NASCAR experience. Every race has a Super Bowl atmosphere. There's so much going on before and after the races - live music, autograph signings, racing simulators, fun for kids and adults. I've been to countless baseball games and a few football games and it's just a game. Nothing else.

Night races are the best because you can spend all day at the track enjoying the experience or tailgating and then watch the race that night. I'd go to a NASCAR race before an NFL football game any day.

Yahooo, Damn Tootin Andy.:D

All I remember about the first football game that I went to was that the Ravens beat the Redskins by a touchdown (and the cheerleaders were hot). All I remember about the first baseball game I ever went to was trying to catch foul balls. The first NASCAR race I went to (Miami, 1995), I remember getting autographs, meeting drivers, going to the concerts after practice and qualifying, partying at the campgrounds, watching a damn good race and losing my voice. And I was only seven. :D

Television just doesn't capture the NASCAR experience like it used to. Personally, this is one reason I'm looking forward to NBC coming back in. NBCSN does an excellent job capturing the atmosphere in the IndyCar and F1 races. If you aren't there, you want to be there. Their ARCA telecasts were also great. They really make it seem like you're there and make it fun. Hopefully, it helps NASCAR rekindle the magic from the late 90s and early 2000s.

Lets not forget the fans that attend the races ................... what a diverse and wonderful group of people they are. Being at a race is like having a party where you have 50.000 of your friends show up and they all get along with each other. Giving people a high 5 that you have never seen before. The fans ARE Nascar

Seeing your favorite driver on pit road before a race and getting his autograph ........................ Thats an awesome experience. Dont know of any other sports that a fan has that much access to the athletes.

Even at the local tracks I visited, the people were exceptionally friendly. I just need to tune my ears to the accent a bit more.

It's pretty cool to read some of the posts in this thread and be reminded of the many things that make Nascar so enjoyable. Thanks for starting it, Fender

Thanks, and thanks to everyone for their fine posts in here. It will make a nice haven the next time I rant about rear windows.;)

That was you??? You're welcome! lol

I did that to a couple of Stewart fans at Richmond about 20 laps before Stewart's first Cup win. I didn't like Stewart back then and wasn't very excited about hearing him get his first win. I had a splitter on my scanner so me and the wife could both use it. She had taken her headphones off a while before, so I thought what the hell, and handed the two sets of headphones to them and let them hear their favorite driver get his first win.

Another time at Richmond we were in the stands before the NW/Busch race, when just before the race started a very well dressed couple came walking up the isle and took a seat across the isle from where we were sitting. I wasn't paying too much attention to them, but when I looked over at them I realized it was Morgan Sheppard and (I guess) his wife.
Several people went over to get autographs, and he politely signed everything.
About mid way through the race I went over to them and asked for an autograph. I told him I thought it was great that he chose to sit with the fans and watch the race. He thanked me and signed my program with a big smile on his face.

I still think it was pretty cool for them to sit with the fans, when I'm pretty sure they could have had much nicer accommodations.

First off I have never actually attended a race but from what I have heard the fans are far more welcoming and friendly than sports like beerfootball. And its by far the most stimulating sport there is -- unless it a 1.5 mile snoozefest, there isnt a whole lot of boring moments. Attending a NASCAR race is on my bucket list -- its something I HAVE to do.

NASCAR has wanted a track in Oregon or Washington for a while. It won't be too long before you have one up there.

When that day comes I will be a happy man. But please make it a good track like a short track or road course, not a cookie cutter ;)

IDK if its big enough to accommodate all the fans but if it is then Evergreen Speedway would be a good choice. Saw a drift race there a few years ago...it was a blast.

it gives you goose bumps when they start engines and do the parade laps when they wave the green flag and they mash it to the floor makes your inners shake.

Coy, If you have never been then cookie cutter or not you will be amazed. I remember my wife's 1st race , it was at Charlotte. When they dropped the green she was like wow there going fast now. I said wait til they get back around at full speed. Needless to say she stood in Total Awe for the 1st 20 laps. Could not believe what she was seeing. Good luck

The only thing that tops Nascar for me is a Game at Fenway, a few cold ones, hot dogs and the Green Monsta, nothing tops that in my book.

sound.......smell.....visual.......nuthin like it ! but that don't translate on tv !
nascar needs ta gets mor young folks ta tha race....even if they have ta give tickets away!
then they'll be hooked!

Oddly enough heavy metal concerts carry the exact same "family" feeling. And it's just as loud at NASCAR too ;)

The paint jobs are a lot brighter in person as well. The first time I seen Gordon's Dupont paint job that he ran in the 90's live, I thought I was gonna need sunglasses. The Tide car was bright as well.

Speedweeks is one thing I love about NASCAR. It always feels good to get back to some racing.

Anything that portrays itself to be "Fair and Balanced" tends to be the exact opposite. haha

However, this thread is a bright spot on a board where negaitivity tends to prevail.

Nice work, FB!

Thanks, but where's your positive points for nascar?

As others have mentioned it's the sights, sounds, smell and overall atmosphere of attending the races that keeps me coming back.

I also love the drama of a good race. Anything can happen at any time and you never know the outcome until someone takes the checkered flag.
