It has definitely changed since 2001 but I still like it.
Yes, he's as entitled to his opinion as you or I are to ours, but that doesn't mean everyone has to post 'Ditto!'. It's called a forum for a reason.
I've seen the "I'm done with this" post on more different forums and topics than Chad Knaus has seen lug nuts. Maybe this is jasn88cubs's farewell post; either way, I wish him well. But I'm tired of posters who tell us why they're finished with something, then continue to hang around repeatedly reposting their displeasure. Why continue to frequent a forum on a subject you've already made clear you dislike?
Fully agree with that. Trucks this year are going to be great, no Kyle Busch to ruin the series (No offense to KyBu fans, but that's just how it is) and Cup has gotten off to a good start. What we've seen from XFinity so far is a double-duty driver get his season ended in the opener, one of the worst races in the series' recent history at Atlanta, and a Vegas race that ended with a non-points driver not having the balls to bump Dillon out of the way to win his first career race. I wouldn't be suprised in the least if NASCAR shuts the series down after Xfinity sponsorship leaves.
I double-checked and I haven't insulted him in this discussion. I've tried to be careful to address his opinions. I'm trying to figure out if he's unhappy with the changes in the racing itself, or with the changes in the overall spectacle. Why not ignore it then? To come in and insult a guy for it it's worse in my opinion. It's a waste of a post.
They guys and gals still sweat alot but they dont collapse Maybe related to better health management?
example...Rick MastSome of the drivers might be in better shape , but all of the drivers are breathing filtered cool air through their full face helmets , not the superheated ,carbon monoxide laden air that the old guys breathed.
But he had the opportunity was in an RCR car for a few years.Whatever happened to Robbie Gordon? He just disappeared.......used to like watching him race.

Seems to me that a lot of threads here turn into this...
A 6 paragraph essay about how "OMG!!! This sport sucks! I'm outta here!" is posted. This is followed by a few posts about how Brian France ruined NASCAR and "the racing used to be so much better" comments. Add in the old videos and nostalgia the old guys like to throw in. But the most powerful and overlooked posts are the ones that come after all the ranting is done. These are the one line posts that go along the lines of "I'm watching NASCAR till the day I die".
Not complaining, at all, just generalizing.
It's ok to have an opinion regardless of which side of the fence you're on.Seems to me that a lot of threads here turn into this...

If this post is directed toward me, I'll be here long after you're gone.you pretty much got it. Can't understand why the crepe hangers continue to hang around, never will, but they are fun to mess with.

If not, my bad

I've been posting on Mustang boards for as long as I've been here and guess what, I don't own a Mustang. And you have been. I enjoy reading your posts.
Just because one decides to not watch NASCAR doesn't mean you HAVE to stop posting on a board you've been coming to for 10 or more years. Maybe you keep coming to talk with the friends you've made here? Some people dont grasp this concept. Oh well.
I get that. What I don't get is when people keep returning to a board just to keep repeating how they're not going to watch / participate in whatever the topic is. I'm generalizing; jasn88cubs hasn't done this (as far as I know). But I'd still like to know what he thinks of the current state of the racing itself. I'm bewildered that someone would stop watching an activity just because the names have changed and the participants are smarter and safer. And you have been. I enjoy reading your posts.

1)Season long sponsors. I miss the fact that companies would sponsor a guy for a whole year. Nowyou got 4-5 companies sponsoring. yes i understand because its expensive, but i just miss the fact that when you thought of your driver you instantly thought of the sponsor to
examples--gordon- dupont/ bobby labonte-interstate, rusty wallace-mille,r earnhardt-goodwrench, mark martin-valvoline, harry gant-skoal, kenny schrader-kodak, ernie irvan-kodiak, davey allison-havoline
But he had the opportunity was in an RCR car for a few years.
Couldn't agree more. JG driving with 3M on board and not DuPont is sacrilege! A white Lowes car? Blasphemy! What's next, Danica in a AOL car?

The fans have had so many changes come to their chosen sport so fast, that I don't think we've had time to
digest them and get used to them. I don't feel it's the changes per se, so much as it is the speed at which
they've been implemented. Maybe if they'd come at a slower pace, we wouldn't be so frustrated. I know I
prefer the comfort of the known, to the unknown.
It doesn't bother me if someone swears off racing and still posts in a racing forum.
I DO get frustrated at the relentless negativity at times. The "doom and gloom" crowd -- not just here, either--
occasionally ruffles my feathers. I love my chosen sport. I may not agree with the all the changes, but it's
my sport. I will continue to watch --- I just wish I had the finances to go to races. I really enjoyed the 60+ races
I have attended.
I believe not only the pace of change hurt things but many times the changes did not appear to make any sense. Nascar was also perceived has heavy handed and arrogant and it was their way or the highway. I know many of the traditional fans felt completely alienated and almost cheated out of something that was part of their fabric for generations. These people supported Nascar for years and were being dumped in favor of bunch of yuppies lol.
Well now the yuppies are gone, the tracks can't remove seats fast enough and still don't sell out race dates, TV viewership is down, the 2015 Daytona 500 lost 6 million viewers compared to 2006, the HOF is circling the toilet bowl etc etc. I believe there are still many people who want Nascar to un-ring the bell and put things back to what they liked and how they were but of course that is impossible.
I agree, though i think they did it a little too fast, for older fans at least. longtime fans kept getting changes thrown at them. Look at NASCAR in 2003, then today, lots of changes for a 12 yr period.NASCAR is changing. It is modernizing with the times. Sure there will be some things you won't like about the changes, but that's apart of life.
Like I said before, if NASCAR doesn't change, there won't be a NASCAR.
Were you around when the took the cocaine out?Which time? When they changed the recipe and brought out ''new'' Coke' or when they took the real cocaine out?

Some of the fans in my generation and older don't want change or they want it at such a glacial pace that it is hardly noticeable.
ah cars don't mean what they used to either. There aren't many cars today that are affordable and "exciting" to drive, and places to drive them excitedly like they were years ago and I think that has caused the slow decline in motorsports in general over the long haul. Everybody's driving station wagons. But there will always be a core group of racers and race fans racing something, has been since the beginning of the car.
Shhhh.....don't tell anyone but I liked it and still bought it when Coke Classic and new Coke could be purchased side by side. Were you around when the took the cocaine out?
When they changed to New Coke in 1985.
many of the changes have been "gimmicky" the latest is the track bar and the cameras in the pits IMO. The new Chase, qualifying. I can look and see what is behind them and I believe it is media pressure instead of improving the racing. To me that is weak management at work. But because of all the drama the ratings are up. So be it. ratings and TV coverage money are driving the sport.
yeah, it is a constant beginners lesson for the newcomer. Promotion ad nausea. Announcers hardly ever bother me, it is their job to try to make it exciting and some races they really earn their money. Commercials kill the flow of the race, I have been lucky this year to find foreign streams that don't have them.
yep, that is why I think they changed qualifying. With specific timing they can predict closer to how much time it will take..I wish they would do that to football, last year races were a mess because of them running long. 20 minutes to play two clock minutes.Sometimes with potential upcoming pit stops the commercials can really break the flow of things. I think Nascar and the networks will ensure that there is perpetual change and one of the things I see coming is trying to get most races into a 3 hour window.
I believe attendance fell off but tv ratings increased.Anyone remember what happened when Coca-Cola changed the original recipe?
