Format changes for the Clash

"Staduim racing is caged racing it is not organic free range racing "

- Greg Febuary 2022
It forces the cars to grow up stunted, with insufficient horsepower and thin tires. Most of their lugnuts fail to develop. The cramped conditions force the numbers forward on their bodies. Their normally intimidating roars become quieted, almost timid. Their endurance drops and they can't run or hunt as long as normal. They formsmaller packs and can't develop normal social behaviors.

The weather looks like ****. Wonder if NASCAR should take its lumps, and move this thing to Saturday.

At least it won't take that long to dry a 1/4 mile track. Only advantage I can think of running cup cars on such a small track.

Race rain or shine. If football fans can sit in the stands and watch a football game in the rain and snow than NASCAR fans can sit in a little SOCAL rain. Heck it would probably be more exciting on a slick track.

Could they cancel and run monday? Its not a points race so if weather was real bad what would they do

I get putting up some tarps here and there for optics, but the safety holds like it’s Monster Jam in row 1-10 on the frontstretch is a lame move lol.

I honestly don't trust the current crop of "Plate racing is a lottery"drivers to run an exhibition race at a plate track. As we saw in the last couple of iterations of the Clash at Daytona, these guys will just run each other over and throw stupid blocks instead of actually trying to race.

Plate racing skill is the worst it has ever been.

Either they'll wreck each other or they'll run in line single file all race and not make a move because it's not worth tearing anything up.

Tearing stuff up in an exhibition is also a sticking point with the RTA.

I think the most likely scenario down the road is that the Busch Clash, in its current or previous iteration, gets phased out and NASCAR adds a 37th points race.

Decent even - sure
Decent race - not so much

Hard to call it a bad race when it doesn’t mean much.

Part of why the Clash @ Daytona got bad is due to the fact they moved it to Sunday afternoon in a boring time slot instead of making it an exclusive pole-winners/Clash winners Shootout sprint race on Saturday night w/ARCA.

I can see NASCAR moving it around every few years. A non-points exhibition gives NASCAR a lot of flexibility to bring the product to new markets.

How will I be able to identify the drivers during the Mexican cross over event? I will be able to identify the cars by brand but:

How I will know the translation for the Mexican numbers on the race cars?

The numbers on the Mexican cars are metric. It's good you can identify the brand since you need that to convert the numbers to Imperial.

To convert them,
  • Multiply Toyota numbers by 18;
  • Divide Chevy numbers by 3;
  • Add 6 to Ford numbers.

I can see it eventually becoming the All Star Race in that sense.

The charter deal is going to decide a lot of things about the future.

Worry no more. You will be able to tell by the pace car.

People telling me that the current engine packages and even the weight tolerances will instantly become obsolete due to rounding once they convert all specs to Mexican or the matrix system.

Word also has it that the Felons primary associate Ricardo El Hendricko and his crime family is the driving force for the changes. All parts and equipment will be controlled and issued by the Felon himself.

It will effect everyone, including TRD. They had to ship all their cars and parts to the Felon and have him to reissue them back after he modified them to meet his specifications. The same specs that Nascar has been told to accept.

They should make the Clash into a race where the winner gets $500,000 and a fan in the stands gets $500,000 or something.

Anyway, the Clash was a lot better when it was only a 15-20 car field of pole winners & previous Clash race winners. Also they dropped the green flag stops & made the Daytona Clash too long instead of making it a quick 40-50 lap sprint race.

None of the BS where if you make the playoffs or win a fan vote or you’re a top 7 driver for your manufacturer and you’re in.

Which 'they' is writing the checks this time?

I don’t know? It was a suggestion to get me tuned in. Kyle Larson and his group don’t seem to have a problem signing checks and implementing these concepts albeit on a smaller scale. And people wonder why sprint car racing & dirt late models are growing so much.

It’s near downtown in the 2nd largest city in the country and readily available by public transit. Both of those factors put it way ahead of most other NASCAR tracks.

I do like tracks out in the country such as Iowa, Martinsville, Nashville, Michigan, New Hampshire, Bristol, etc but NASCAR did this event a lot better than Chicago.

What makes it a hard venue to attend? Expensive parking costs?

It is close to major airports such as LAX & Burbank and OK public transit. Much easier to attend a race in Los Angeles than Inland Empire.
I have already shared my experience going to the first Coliseum race on page 2 post # 43 in the California speedway demo thread.

You and I already discussed this on Dec of last year. I still feel it is much easier and less cost for me to go to Fontana than the Coliseum in a vehicle even though I live much closer to the Coliseum. Now if I were taking public transportation than that might be a different story. The metro train doesn’t go all the way to LAX from downtown if someone is flying into LAX and are not planning on renting a car.
