Fox has been pretty bad this year

I've been on NASCAR forums close to 20 years now there are threads like this several times every season. The reality is that race tracks are big and things will be missed. Also certain sponsors pay to have their cars and in-car camerals shown more. Most all of us probably think we could do a better job than NASCAR does but none of us have ever stepped foot in production facility.

My unsolicited advice is the we just sit back and enjoy what we have rather than worrying about things over which we have no control. It's not easy and no one is perfect. However, since JG retired I have been able to take a step back and really enjoy the races. I no longer track practices, quals, speeds and read the articles. I just tune in right before the green flag and enjoy the race. Had I known how much more enjoyable NASCAR is for me at this level of engagement I'd have done it this way much sooner.

Been involved with racing forums since my first desk top came with Prodigy installed. ‘93 or ‘94 I guess.

Prefer the folks callin’ the racing then much better. Most are obnoxious today

I can and do much better than the networks. DVR the shows ‘n run ‘em back without the audio.

I usually don't know who is on the pole until I turn on the DVR to watch the race and I think it is OK to voice support for things you like and displeasure for things you don't.

What's with the cheap shots? This is not a complain thread as much as it is an observation of what I see.

If it's a problem than its worth discussing imo. After all, isn't this a discussion board?

Let's have the admins delete all the threads and watch the races without commenting while we're at it. Then we'd have an empty board. Much better that way.

In normal conversation, sure. I expect impartiality from someone getting paid to cover a sporting event at the national level. This isn't the Eastern Vermont University Broadcast Network, Home of the Fightin' Biases.

Yeah, I just meant people on this forum should feel at ease being positive or negative. In the booth the announcers need to be impartial.

I'd listen to Allen Bestwick call the check-out lines at Kroger or the ride queues at Disney.

It seems like I'm in the minority, I can't stand Bestwick and his yuckin' it up 1960s radio announcer voice. "Oh boy what a twist of plot :insert phony laughter: but we digress." He always made me cringe or watch on mute.

I have met Bestwick and he is a jackass in person and I don't care for his fake on air persona.

As others have said, FOX has been relying too heavily on onboard camera shots lately. Watching a pass is more difficult and less enjoyable from onboard shots.

Commercial loads vary week by week, but FOX isn't nearly as bad as TNT used to be. With TNT, graphics took up half the screen when commercials were interrupted by what little racing we saw.

I'm fine with the FOX commentators, though it may help that one of them was my favorite driver. :)

A few things have driven me nuts.

The on board cameras. For some reason, when there's a battle for the lead, we don't actually see it because we're watching from an in car, roof or bumper camera.

Randomly cutting away. They show a battle for the lead, then randomly show you the 12th place car for no reason, then go back to the battle for the lead. Or when there's a wreck happening, they randomly cut away then go back.

Jeff Gordon. I get it, you think Chase Elliott is the second coming and root for him because he's in your old car. But it gets tiring hear him blame everyone else for Chase's mistakes. And then criticizing Larson yesterday when Truex was acting like a bit of a diva. sh!t's getting old.

Fox has always had their favorites and it's driven me insane for years. There was one year where Kyle Busch got more airtime than any other driver even though most of the races had been won by Kevin Harvick or Jimmie Johnson at that point in the season. And their coverage of Kyle Busch was always flattery.

Everybody loves Kyle Busch ............ he gets flattered 24-7 around here

Sometimes I think FOX has forgot that they are there to show us the race, and its not about them, I think they are trying to be the "show" sometimes, I know this is minor, but its the whole FOX NASCAR, that just sounds sooo silly, just my opinion of course.

The last few years of TNT, yeah, it was bad, but I really like how TNT did the first couple of years when they went to the summer 6 pack , and the wide open coverage, I enjoyed that as well.

In the coming year when broadcasters are down to using 4 cameras for a race we may miss some of those in car shots.....well I won't but some will.

I'm pretty sure this thread will be renamed NBC in a few weeks.

I am sure you are right as the way in which Nascar broadcasts are performed is just another thing in a long line of complaints people have. If I was in charge there would be more overhead shots and every so often I would lock down the field with a camera at the start finish line showing the distance between all the cars visually in addition to how many seconds they are behind. I would do away with in car cameras with the exception of the front and rear as watching a glowing brake rotor, a spring compress and decompress and a driver's fee getting on and off the gas and brake have jumped the shark along with angles that show the side of the car.

FOX has been consistently terrible at capturing battles for position on track, and missing wrecks entirely. I'm sick of on boards, in car cameras of a driver's helmet, and still shots of a incident happening a 1/4 mile away in the background.[/QUOTE]
These are commercials disguised as racing information.

I am with you as what you mentioned has no value to me at all.

Just my opinion, but the sport has passed DW by. Back in his time he could tell you anything about a car and how to make it do what you need it to. Today, the sport and the cars have changed so much that he seems lost. Gordon is solid, he disagrees with DW and he does in a respectful way whereas DW seems a bit perturbed by Gordon thinking he has the answer sometimes. Mike Joy has a simple job, keep everyone on task. I think he does a fine job at that. I just don't really know what people want/expect. If you do not like commercials, then DVR the races and watch them back using that FFWD button on the remote. If you don't like the audio, mute it or go get the NASCAR app and pay for the radio communication of the drivers and MRN. The fact is that everyone wants to bitch about everything, but when there are solutions available and you still choose to bitch about it that's your problem. The only answer for those people is for them to go to every race. Nobody to listen to and no commercials to see. Good luck.

I remember the martinsville m
Monday race where dw and larry Mac talked over mike joy and mike hushed them on the air

For me, the poor FOX coverage this year is in the producer/director chair. I can't count the number of times the guys in the booth are talking about something on the track, whether it's a pass, close call or wreck, and they don't cut the shot until it's too late. It's like the director doesn't have a feel for racing and runs the broadcast by a script regardless of action on the track. Same with passes for the lead, countless times we see replays after a commercial break. Who could anticipate that when the second place car was picking up a tenth a lap that he'd make the pass during a scheduled break. Ugh.

I was sitting at a bar tonight waiting on our takeout food and they had ESPN on.Stephen A Smith and 2 others were talking basketball, they made me thankful for NASCAR announcers on Fox And NBC.

Yeah that has happened a lot this year. One that gets me is the booth will point out a close battle or something a car/driver are doing and it is like the director tells the camera people to purposely switch to a different camera and completely miss what they thought was an important point to watch. Seems pretty disrespectful to the guys in the booth and I know I don't like wanting to see what they are talking about and they switch the cameras.

My favorite is when one care has passed another and they talk about the car that just got passed as dueling for the position and the guy that just did the passing is pulling away.

It's all good, considering where I come from...

Damn….

Practice. Just heard from one of the Fox talkin’ heads Almirola lost half a vertebrae in the Kansas wreck.

Wonder where the half he lost went.

Fox is the bright spot in announcing, NBC? finger nails on a chalk board. Fox has its down side of course, MW for one. During the race they always show where the 4 jibbs cars are running. There are other toyoders on the track, some are small teams that could use a little coverage to help there sponsors out. I dont see where the Childress car are running, Roush cars, Haas, etc. seems they focus on the jibbs cars .. toyoder has deep pockets for sure and they want coverage of there 6 jibbs cars( yes 6 not 4) only and Fox take those dollars w/o question. When sports is controlled solely by $$, then its time to go fishing. The fan base is shrinking and its caused by the almighty dollar. Fox plays into this and so will NBC.

Maybe Ryan Newman's got it and will use it and some others to build hissef a neck.

Whoever the guys callin' the ARCA race are can call the NASCAR stuff for the next couple events if they want.

Be a fresh change.
