I think fans are probably much more upset about it than Chastain is. I honestly don't think Chastain cares one bit. He's said before that he's expecting payback from drivers. He knows that if you dish it out, you have to deal with the consequences.
This all over. Ross doesn't seem to have any problem dying by the sword, at least not ones he's voicing in public.

I don't think anyone realizes how many times Chastain got into Denny last year and then right away at the clash. It was literally ridiculous. Yea it's a dumb move.

Hamlin, under caution.

He got a penalty a few days later after NASCAR reviewed it and admitted to somehow missing a driver getting wrecked under caution.

Byron never admitted intent though.
Byron admitted he did it on purpose in his post race interview.

I’d be surprised if it were anything more than a small fine, if that. It was not a dangerous high-speed move nor was it a high leverage situation (Bubba also took out Bell, a playoff driver, at Vegas). Given what usually passes in this series it’d be crazy to suspend someone for that.

This is stupid. Both drivers are okay with everything now. Four sets of louvers sitting in R&D, and Sawyer gets himself involved in this ****? Rick Hendrick, you are savage.

I still cant fathom this dude went on his freshly new podcast and admitted something this dumb. Denny really is an idiot and I hate to say that about someone I have never met but you have to keep that to yourself. I dont dislike Hamliln nor hate him, kind of indifferent. He reminds me of the popular sports star in school that had all the talent in the world along with mommy and daddy's money but had a 5 cent brain, that when he spoke it was usually amusing and it wasnt for the intelligence. I wouldnt hate it if Chastain and Hamlin wrecked each other out of NASCAR, my race day viewing wouldnt be lacking w/o them. I will commend Denny for having a personality though, we say these guys are boring and groan when they toe the company line but when they do something like this we throw up our arms. Guilty as charged as well, but I dont know. He could have played coy with this deal and it would have went away by green flag of Atlanta...... now he might get some disciplinary action. It's going to be hard to sell yourself to a potential new sponsor if you're shopping for one with the rumor of Fed Ex leaving if you're missing races due to dumb stuff you're saying on the podcast as a result of your actions on track.
100% agree, the guy is an idiot and NASCAR is going to respond. "Actions Detrimental" indeed

Sawyer gets involved when idiots admit they purposely wrecked a competitor. What he Denny did was stupid. Period.

What Denny did is exactly what NASCAR wants. Sawyer needs to stay focused on the louvers.

Not sure if wrecking people on purpose is what NASCAR wants. Take off your "yoda glasses" for a min. NASCAR didnt look kindly an MK wrecking joey @ Mville

Yeah, whatever. NASCAR is penalizing Denny poking the bear. They don't give a **** about what happened to Ross. This is a big ball exercise--ego driven. You know the Big Bill..."NASCAR will be here without you" bull****. They have loved the bull**** until this point.

NASCAR certainly loves this sh!t. It's what gets viewers and us talking about the race the next day. But they can't publicly acknowledge it's ultimately good for them. Then certain snowflakes would skewer them for embracing potential carnage. But make no mistake, they love it. And we do to.

It's not intimidation if the other guy isn't intimidated or bothered by it.

Like I said, none of this has cost Ross much of anything yet. Wait until he gets taken out while about to win a big race, or gets knocked out of championship contention and THEN see how much he (or Justin Marks) cares. Dale Sr. would have wrecked his ass every week until the message got delivered, ask Geoff Bodine. I say this as somebody that LIKES Ross, but you just shouldn't be able to consistently race like a jackass all the time and get away with it. There HAS to be a price to pay at some point.

The playoff format and the decreased horsepower and aerodynamics of this car along with the playoff format and stage racing all reward aggressive driving. What you call racing like a jackass, others are calling racing.

In this car, you can't afford to lift. You can't afford to suddenly give up a preferred lane. If you've got a run on someone, you have to take it.

Being aggressive gets you into the final four in the playoffs, like Ross Chastain did last year. Being the nice guy gets you a winless season, like Ryan Blaney last year.

No amount of Denny Hamlin shenanigans are going to change that. Denny's tried over and over and over to mess with Ross Chastain and get in his head and it's backfired each time.

Geoff Bodine never got the message until NASCAR gave it to him. And he STILL screwed with the 3. Saw it MANY times at Bristol from 90 on.....

Gragson got a 30 points penalty and a $35k fine for the wreck at Road America that was much worse.
But like others have already indicated this penalty isn't really for the wreck, it's for Denny being stupid enough to admit it was intentional.
Just like Denny needs to *pay* his friends to let him shoot them with paintball guns, he needs to *pay* to try to look like a badass.

A little bird waited too long to fly south. He was caught in a snowstorm and forced down in a pasture, exhausted and freezing. To make matters worse, a passing cow sh!t right on him.
But the crap was warm! After some rest, he felt warm and safe, picking seeds out of the stuff. He was so happy, he began to sing!
A passing cat dragged him out and ate him.

Moral 1: Not everyone who sh!ts on you is your enemy.
Moral 2: Not everyone who pulls you out of sh!t is your friend.
Moral 3: If you're warm and happy at the bottom of a pile of sh!t, KEEP YOUR DAMN MOUTH SHUT!

The precedent was set when Byron admitted to wrecking Denny under caution last year. If you admit to it you will be penalized. How do you not learn from an incident you were involved in less than a year ago??

That fine and points penalty should be the end of it. Denny was foolishly hanging onto some clash beef apparently where the list is shorter for who didn't get hit that day, and now he's been punished accordingly.

I think Ross is confident in their ability to get in the playoffs by winning a race and where they'll end up in the points, so he's not too bent out of shape about it, it's early in the season which helps.

Hat tip to Hamlin for telling the truth! He had to know he would get a penalty from it, yet it didn't keep him from telling the truth! Harder to do the right thing, than taking the easy way out.

Except this isn't amateur racing, it's professional. So doing the right thing is not telling the truth. Telling the truth was the idiot thing to do, it cost him points so it hurts the whole team.

It's not even a matter of telling the truth or not. It's just a matter of not running your mouth period. Notice we haven't heard crap from Ross all week
