Harvick's 'Wild Card' Race idea

What I was trying to do was express my experience going through just a fraction of what the regular Cup Xfinity and truck Series crew members go through. It is a grueling schedule that wears people down and spits them out. It WAS a voluntary decision, and I wouldn't trade the experiences I had for anything, but it takes a toll. It may not be what many of you that have the luxury of watching it all from your couch may want to hear, but the people that have to LIVE it would kill for a shorter schedule. My interest in this sport goes far beyond being personally entertained on a Sunday afternoon. I look it from a business perspective, engineering, advertising, marketing, and also from a human side. My interest isn't just about what I want.
Sorry but I do not buy the "grueling" work done by near millionares a few days a week for just 9 months of the year.

Either they enjoy working a limited schedule in the entertainment business making hundreds of thousands per year, or they work 50+ hours a week 360 days a year in the real world like the majority of everyone else.

Select NASCAR fans are the only fans that I know of that concern themselves with this subject. I don't get it myself. I can only guess that the team members and guys back at the shop realize what they are getting into beforehand. It's their chosen profession. As far as drivers go, their twitter timelines are polluted with recreation, fine dining and family time most every week. Go figure.

Honestly... there is more to be read into kevins comments... if more drivers other than harvick think this would be a good idea, then we no longer can blame and joke about Brian France jr ruining the sport... because this is another gimmick on top of gimmicks idea.

How about monster cups for everyone!!! Let's also run a night race at Daytona maybe Wednesday night before the homestead finale, and all the other drivers can run a 20 lap demo derby shootout and whoever survives can be a "wild card" fifth driver in the championship "5" battle for the monster cup at homestead that Sunday.

Then let's run another 400 mile race at homestead backwards the following week, just for the hell of it.

There's more... all of that and then have the chain smokers perform a live concert down in the infield with fireworks and laser lights while the race is going on... NASCAR "the new era is here"

I don't know of too many near millionaires turning wrenches on race cars. And whatever money there used to be, crew guys are getting the squeeze just like the drivers..

In just 2015 some MRW crew members were making well over $100k/year salary.

Hehe, next up - whoever gets the "Most Popular Driver" award automatically gets a Chase berth the following year. :p

Serious note: all drivers have 26 opportunities to be the "Wild Card", amirite?

That's a LONG way from millionaire, and if you divided it by the number of hours worked, it probably comes out to less than the a union factory worker.
