He didn’t say Ross was having a bad year? What Bobby said makes sense if you think about it. He’s right now trending downwards. Can he trend back up? Yes. Will he, most likely. But right now he IS trending downwards. That’s not even debatable. If you go from 1st in points to 5th. You trended down, yes?

Ross Chastain is currently 5th in points after finishing 2nd last year. How does that equal a thread about him being a superstar "aging like milk?" Those stats point to him being a superstar now, which means that the thread aged pretty damn well.

People don't lose superstar status because of slumps.

Because milk starts out strong and then expires. Right now that’s how it’s looking. He could have used better wording but I understand what he meant. I’ll ask again, did he not trend down by falling in points?

"Aged like milk" is a well known colloquialism and it definitely does not mean "starts out strong and then expires."

His season right now is tho. kinda. He will surely bounce back, and at that point is when Bobby wouldn’t make sense.

Ross is running consistently, top 5 in points, and finished runner up last year. That's still on a superstar trajectory. The Superstar thread is still aging well.

Slumps and winless streaks don't affect a superstar trajectory until they become chronic.

I think Ryan is another driver that hits the set-up every now and then and gets a few wins. I don’t ever see him as a continuing threat for a championship.

I do want to apologize because it appears my initial info was out of date. After Sonoma, he is 4th in points.

Given that he improved a position in points this week, his arrow would be pointing up.

Oh so now that you’re “right” you answer me, shame man shame. But okay fine, guess someone put a little life into that milk.
 
I'll be honest, Ross made me a fan after the Hail Melon at Martinsville (I got to see it in person.) I was like, "damn, that's a driver that'll do whatever he can to win (or at least advance into the next round.)"

However, I will say this season he keeps getting in his own way. A good example is at Darlington. He didn't have to run Larson up to the wall and take both of them out! He could've gave Larson a wide berth and won the race. I think if he stop doing stupid **** like that, he'd be a weekly top-5 threat.

I post the results every race but who reads that right? lol Ross had a good day considering.
 
His no ***** given tour was pretty fun. Following it up with an immediate retirement tour is only befitting of an unpredictable myth, man, legend who cut through the infield on a road course and sailed away… a cult hero who rode the wall to what has been cemented as an all-time famous piece of NASCAR lore. Now, he and Carl Edwards will swap roles. From farmer to race car driver, and race car driver to farmer. Carl will look after the #1 pretty well, and Ross will teach the Edwards farm a thing or two about watermelons.

I think they have a common story to talk about. Carl bounced off the wall trying to beat Jimmie, and Ross rode the wall and took out Denny.

In that way, he's pre-HMS Larson. All the talent in the world, but has a nasty habit of doing "derp" stuff in the clutch. And, yes, he has seemed to lose a step since Mr. H took his b**ls away.
 
The 1 is having a quiet (performance wise) season, he’s 4th in points as some have pointed out up above and has been in the mix for a few wins this year until some bad luck or imitation gone wrong thwarted those checker flag bids. It’d be disingenuous to say he’s not fast this year but I think a case can be made that TrackHouse as a whole has been missing something from last year. The Amigo hasn’t been as consistently as fast as last year either.

I agree - I think Ross needs to learn how to harness his aggression more effectively. I think he's a top 5 talent in the field right now but he gets in his own way too often. I think he'll overcome that and be a champion one day but it can be frustrating to watch sometimes.

Yea, I get where Mr. H is coming from with that, but I also don't. Dirt racing is a great way to stay in pratice and it really helps you learn and sharpen several key driving abilities. For example, how to search for grip, how to maintain control of a car that snapped loose and depending on the driver, how to drive and win in a loose car.

Back when Jimmie Johnson was in his prime, his #48 machine was always super loose, bordering on being uncontrollable. He learned how to drive a super loose vehicle from his days of off roading truck racing.

Yes, Bowman had his accident in a sprint car and had to sit out. However, I think the dirt racing the Hendrick drivers do is an asset, not a hinderance.
