Homestead Pre Race Thread

Kenseth has been running like a rabbit @ homestead, they were saying Johnson was struggling. The 48 just ran the fastest 10 and 15 lap sectors. Getting good.

He was stuggling (for the #48) but they stepped it up during final practice - big time!

So what scenario is needed for Kenseth to take the championship?
Anything with a points delta of 28 or more - simplest way is to lead the most laps and win (48 points) and Johnson leads no laps and finishes 24th (20 points) or worse.

About the only chance I can see is if Jimmie Johnson decides to go golf cart surfing again sometime between now and the beginning of the race. Other than that..... :(

I spent a few minutes trying to find something that would give me a glimmer of hope for Kenseth winning the title. The only thing I could come up with is that Johnson has never had a chase where he didn't have at least one bad race and he hasn't had one yet this chase.

Other than a mechanical failure, the only thing I see that might happen is if pit/tire strategy get things mixed up and there's a mess mid-pack. However, that can just as easily happen to any one driver as it can the others.

Expect to see an HMS cocoon around Johnson all day and #20 & #29 to possibly push too hard.

Should be a good race

I hope you are correct in that it will be a good race.

I don't see Jimmie/Chad doing any more than necessary. In other words, only racing for what they need and not the win. That's the smart way for him. Stay out of trouble. Personally I hope trouble finds him. No, I don't want to see him wreck or anything like that. I just want to see strategy come back to bite them in the ass somehow. I want to see a two-tire stop be an epic failure of a move. Or maybe a speeding violation. Too many over the wall. Something. I want something/anything to be a cause of concern for him and maybe, just maybe, rattle his cage. I want it to be that even if he has to race to get that 25th position that it's still a struggle for him. Otherwise the drama is gone.

Man, I wish this were my day today.....

This will be a day long remembered..............
You know what? Juan Pablo Montoya, in his last Cup race, could go a long way in making that true for me should he somehow make his presense know alongside Double J. Maybe a cut tire or something sending JJ to the pits for an unscheduled pit stop. Yeah, I'd take that.

For nearly 40 years I have measured myself against the best stock car drivers of the era. It's been #1HellOfaRide #ThanksFans #NASCAR

Let's all enjoy the final race of the season and then go into hibernation until the Daytona 500!

I got the NFL to watch until then after today. I have only watched 1 game so far this season lol.

On the other side of the coin, it is much easier. Run the race, be conservative with the setup and race your race. Gofer 6

Going to be a bit confusing for me today. Cameras and all will be focused on the 48 and the 20, but the 29 with a big day is a car that can gain a position the easiest, only 6 out of second. So Kenesth needs a really good day to stay in second, and the wheels need to fall off on the 48 for the 20 to win it all.

One other variable is Harvick. He has no nice guy image to protect, he doesn't seem to care who does or doesn't like him and he's not out there to make friends so what will he do to win a title?

Remember this little move he put on Johnson at Fontana a couple years ago ;)

I didn't mean to usurp you point as I was searching for that Fontana video when you posted:D

I think the real race will be between the #20 & #29 while #48 safely rides around.
