Homestead RACE thread

I'm not a fan, but after the year he had, seeing Gordo finish 6th in points is a joke.

So how many have won a championship as driver and later owner like Stewart has now?

this makes me happy. plus good finish by patrick considering where she started.

The 24 was going to finish 6th in the overall standings regardless, looked like a hail Mary to try to win the race, he was going to be in the way with the four tires he had on there.

Gordon's crew made the right decision to pit the more I think about it. They let the championship contenders battle it out and saved themselves a ton of drama by not potentially affecting the outcome of the championship.

Although I don't agree with the decision, I think that's exactly what he did.

It seems to me that Gordon decided to just get the hell outta of the way of the championship contenders.

The bit about being able to get back to the front with fresh tires seems pretty far-fetched.

i wonder if Jeff was in final four would he have pitted.

The race….and therefore the chase was decided basically by the luck of the draw in my opinion. Although the 22 put themselves out of the race starting with Joey hitting the wall (and therefore putting even more pressure on his pit crew for the rest of the race) and the pit crew screwing things up even worse later (lost lug nut, jack problem), the other three drivers were in it right up until the end.

Despite people saying that Hamlin was junk on old tires, I don’t see it that way at all. With something like 10 or so laps to go, he was in the lead on just two new tires (and I thought that the 2 tire call was a good one) with Harvick in all likelihood too far back to get to him. If two mediocre drivers back in the pack hadn’t brought out the caution near the end of the race, Hamlin almost certainly would have won it.

Newman was the wild card at the end as well and could just as easily have won it as the other two. By the last 10-12 laps, any one of those 3 drivers (Harvick, Hamlin, Newman) could have won the race if a few things outside the control of any of them had broken a different way. They just happened to break Harvicks way.

But also horribly inconsistent

I don't know....depends on how you look at it. Did he win as many as he should have relative to his speed? No, but racing is that way--tonight he wasn't the best car. In fact, I will selfishly recognize Denny for having the pace of the 24 and the 4. First time, honestly, I had seen that all year. In this respect, I will selfishly give my TRD folks props for getting up to speed at just the right time. They almost pulled it off. Congrats to the 4--he is a deserving Champion.

IMO, the Chase haters can shut the hell up now. Harvick was fastest from the first test with the new package.

But Jeff Gordon ...................................................................................................

Yup, we can only hope and pray for something different next year. This set up configuration did NOTHING for JGR/MWR. NOTHING.....and it didn't look like Carl was thrilled either. Should be interesting.

Its 6 on one hand and half a dozen on the other for me. Hamlin had no way of knowing that with 10 to go that so many drivers would take two and pin Harvick back there. He just needed it to stay green and sadly that didn't happen. Ill take cautions for guys actually wrecking than the phantom debris aka competition cautions we have grown so accustomed to.

Thanks DP. That's pretty much what I heard on their radio. When Alan told Jeff to stay out Jeff said, oh sh!t, we're in trouble.

Don't know if I'd pound my chest too hard over a 2% increase from last year. This Homestead race was supposed to be so much better and exciting and drama filled than last year, and it barely moved the needle.

I was actually expecting the viewership to be a little higher though, for the curiosity factor if for nothing else. I think the four drivers that were competing for the championship might have hurt some. Harvick has a pretty big fan base, but the other three not so much. It was a pretty nondescript group, and many fans simply didn't have a dog in this one.

I believe that a lot of people that do not have cable or a dish would have watched had they had the opportunity.
Yeah, I think someone else already brought this up, but you'd think that such a big, important race would have been on ABC rather than ESPN. :idunno:
