How about Pastrana?

Well any who, back on topic. I wasn't impressed with Travis at Phoenix. Granted he has a whole lot to learn to be a driver. Just because you are second to Danica in popular "tweets" might be good for tv ratings, but it isn't paying the car people's bills. He might do better in the dirt arena, driving a four wheeler. A lot closer to where he came from. Never know though he might do ok.
Yeah, he was struggling even before he beat the car up. I didn't see practice, so I don't know if he had problems all weekend or just during the race itself. I still think it's too soon to tell.

I watched him a little bit last year in Arca. He was really like a duck out of water, all over the track. He didn't have any kind of feel for the car. So he is pretty much starting from scratch..that is hard to do at the level he is racing. Not the end of the world, others haven't done any good. Dario Francini, IRL champion driver, Max Papas, Jacques Villeneuve and others

I've never been a fan of Pastrana in NASCAR. He doesn't belong. He really has no experience for this type of racing. Roush should open a recycling yard because Travis is going to scrap a lot of metal.
I don't expect he'll get the hang of it enough to ever be competitive.

Trouble is , drivers who are supposed to have the experience and are supposed to do well, like Timmy Hill, Jeremy Clements and Johanna Long , aren't doing any better. Top level Nascar racing is tough for everyone.

I try to rate drivers on results so my opinions are usually wrong. The unknown factors are financing, popularity, and pure guts, hang in there despite all the problems. The drivers above pretty much fit that. That is what makes racing interesting. When you have a kid like Kyle Larson, who has forced his way into top level Nascar by results, racing side by side with a celebrity(Travis and others) with almost no experience, it makes it interesting. Either way it goes, Travis has a huge learning curve, he has been thrown in the swamp with the alligators. Time will tell.

These guys in Nascar are pretty good .It is hard to get to their level no matter who you are . Every year kids come in (like Logano )who find that there is a big hill to climb . At the same time ,you see guys who struggle , who go down to the lower ranks and win fairly easily (like Kenny Wallace) . I'm sorry for the people who come in with too much hype , it's not their fault .

I think part of the issue is, Nascar wants crossover appeal so badly that Pastrana doing well makes them think they can reach the younger demo, the guys who love dirtbikes.. same thing with Danica and women. Problem is, when they're not ready for this stage.

I don't think Nascar has much to do with that part of it, unless they are funding racing teams under the table that I haven't heard about. They do snipe some teams sponsor's out from under them like Phoenix Subway. If the sponsorship is there, and they can pay the entry fee with a legal car, and they can qualify, they can race. Celebrities split the profits on their merchandise that is sold, which for celebrities is substantial.

I don't mean it like that.. I mean these drivers who are popular in other racing, or are minorities to the series are a good thing for Nascar's marketability and TV ratings.. Nascar won't influence races but their not gonna mind if all the focus is on Pastrana, hoping that he's a draw for more viewers

Travis was disapponted with his finish, I am sure. It looked like he might have gotten into something on the track cause his car just didn't turn before he hit the wall. It could have been lack of experience, it could have been fluid from Johanna Long's radiator or maybe a little of both.

I expect him to do well!

Alot of you are quick to jump to conclusions. If fox sports is willing to give Danica patrick her own damn camera and 10 years to gain "great experience in a stock car" then you really can't compare these two drivers.. he looked like a joke in Phoenix so I guess I understand the knee-jerk distain.. I dunno it's a stacked nationwide field, the guys sitting 15th in points right now and pretty much everyone ahead of him at this point probably should be. I'm not expecting a championship but I STILL think he will impress as the season rolls on. I know I'm probably sounding like a fanboy but whatever, haha.

It makes me feel really old to think that there are fans around that didn't see the big name drivers like Tony Stewart and Jeff Gordon wrecking racecars in their first couple of years . Young guys always try too hard to show what they got and overdrive their racecars . Eventually they learn their limitations and start finishing races . If you are a Travis fan of a Danica fan , remember "this too shall pass" .

we were talking about Travis..not Danica. Tony's dad owned a dirt race track..Jeff's step dad made a living making parts for sprint cars. Jeff started racing 4 wheeled CARS when he was 4 years old. Travis started racing MOTORCYCLES. How can you use these drivers for a comparison...apples and oranges. Danica started driving go karts BTW.

I hope you are right, I like the kid, but he has a steep hill to climb is all I am saying. Roush took him on because he has a sponsor, and Roush has good equipment. So he has the equipment under him to do well, super opportunity.

Hmmmmm color me surprised????Why hasn't Andy been by to biotch about all the Travis hate?

I guess Jimmie Johnson started in motorcycles too as well as Joe Weatherly . Travis should do well.

Still not a fan . He does have a long way to go. Like I said earlier maybe he should start at a lower level and work his way up.( Oh yea I forgot Everybody likes him and he can ride a motorcycle. :sarcasm: ) Hope he does well and hope its soon!

I like what the guy brings to the table in new youth interested in how he does . I don't think he could be expected to post top tens for a year or two. That's a pretty tough field in Nationwide.

But Jack will make money. Shows what you know!

4 wheels...

4 wheels...

4 wheels...

The dude can drive, and drive well, anything he sits in. NASCAR won't be any different with more experience. He's far from just racing motorcycles now a days, I'd guess motorcycles is what he's done the least the last few years.

28th at Phoenix, 7 laps down. Travis Pastrana does not impress me.

Nevermind...not trying to start a p***ing match. :)
It's not a pissing match with Bobby. He's not going to look up numbers in order to sling chit.

Besides, we all know the people who sling names with no basis are just drama queens. Bobby is who bobby is.

Nobodys gonna change him.

But 28th at Phoenix, 7 laps down!!
So you like him...or not? I cant figure it out. Weren't you defending him by stating he had only 11 starts? And now you are bashing him for coming 28th at Phoenix 7 laps down.?
Like I said ....I'm a fan
