How is Kyle going to lose the Championship?

Chase

Much rather see the season come down to everyone racing to win instead of someone with a huge point lead trying to protect their lead. The New system has eliminated the just out to win the championship style of racing and got it down to making everyone race for it at the end. Kind of like the NFL team that may go undeafeated all season but still has to fight their way to the Super Bowl to win the title.

You must have missed Rusty Wallace calling out Bill Elliott in '88 for stroking in the last race, saying that if he were leading going into the last race, he would burn the tires through the last lap trying to win. The next year, he too stroked to win the title.

Points racing is a part of this sport and it isn't going to change any time soon. :(

I still say it sucks, but it also made it were i got a shot to win it at Clarksville myself, so hell its a catch 22 for me

I'm with buck on this... play-off's keep it interesting. If it were all but a sealed deal at this point, I'd be watching football. But as it stands, I'm still gonna watch the race...

Besides, with 9 races left, who's to say the 'driver with the most wins won't win'? Jimmie and Carl could both pass Kyle with # of wins for the season, or Kyle could simply bounce back. (but let's remember the eerily-accurate title of the thread!)

I haven't seen any fat ladies singin' yet.

Well, I know a lot of people were totally disgusted with last year's Chase since it was just a battle of the two Hendrick drivers after a few weeks. I guess a lot of people switched to football? Well, unless you were a Hendrick driver fan. ;)

I hope this year we don't know who will win until we get to Homestead. I should add, I'd like to see it a battle of more than 2 or even 3 drivers. Now that would make it more exciting. (As long as Jeff is one of them. LOL And that looks like a shot in the dark this year, but one can always hope!)

There, fixed that for ya;)

Watch yourself there, dirt boy. LMAO

The Chase just needs more time and they need to settle on a format and leave it alone so we can get accustomed to it. Also, you really can't complain about the Chase being between 2 drivers thus the fans lose interest and turn to <horrors> football can you? Under the old rules there would most years only be 1 driver and the others would just be trying to settle 2 - 10. So to say its between 2 drivers means it accomplished what Nascar wanted, it kept some mystery for a while longer.

Now don't take that to mean I like the Chase. I don't. I prefer the old method but then I'm old. And things will continue to evolve and change. I have to get on board or miss the train altogether. So me sitting on the sidelines crying about it, esp. on a message board, means squat.

Perhaps others could be a little more flexible in their thinking. Esp. those who are much much younger and have that libertarian bent to them...

It hasn't changed squat. By the 5th or 6th race, you already know who's going to win the Championship since most of the tracks in the Chase are cookie-cutter tracks.

Plainly put the new system penalizes the guy that has whipped everyone's ass all year long. Gives the mediocre also-rans a shot at a trophy.
It pisses me off!
There's ONE driver so far that deserves the Championship; he has 8 wins, 15 top 5's and 17 top 10's.
Based on those stats, if anyone else wins the (mickey-mouse) "Chase" then this sport is a farce, at best.

It's gonna be Flipper or Johnsen.

Last year, Gordon. This year it's Kyle Busch who's screwed over by The Chase.

Looks like Kyle would be getting screwed, chase or no chase. Can't blame the chase for the last couple of weeks.

Except last year Jeff had a 5.5 avg. finish to Jimmie's 5.0. Because of what happened to Jeff, I feel bad for Kyle. What's the deal with the Gibb's cars the last 2 wks? Only Tony hasn't had a bad issue caused by mechanical failure. Pretty bad time to be having trouble with their engines all of a sudden.

kyle has a sway bar link failure, then a blown motor, then denny chunks a rearend, and the guy thats gonna be gone at years end is the one running good????

Well, he's getting some top tens & top 5s , I guess. He hasn't been vying for the win or anything, but his car hasn't blown up or broken on him.

This is not a bash against Kyle, just a hunch that I've had for a long time that I can't shake.

"Kyle B. will not win the Championship this year."

I was having real trouble figuring out this might happen with a 60-70 pt cushion, but now it looks like Carl is going to really give him a run for his money.

So here's my projection of how it will go down: Kyle will lose the lead for good in the 6th race of the chase to Carl when his luck runs outs (tire, crash, caught on pit road...)

Just had to get it out there...

Any other guesses on how it'll all go down? (Kyle can win for all I care...) This is your chance to say... "See, I KNEW it would happen that way!"

Have fun!

Guess your question is answered now.;)

This is a perfect example of why the Chase sucks. It has bitten Jeff Gordon before and it has also given Jimmie at least one trophy that he didn't deserve. Kyle is now going to finish poorly at the end of the season because of two (so far) bad races after he's toasted the pants off of everyone all season long.

I just checked, and under the old points system, Kyle just lost first place to Carl by 33 points. (Carl is leading under BOTH formats) Kyles is losing it (right now...) under either system.... Greg Biffle is the real winner right now... he'd almost be out of contention back by 351 points.

Agreed. But, a FAR cry from the 210 points that he's out under the crappy Chase format.
At least my other driver is on top :D

Who is having a hissy fit? I'm just trying to make since out of a retarded statement....

Have you ever heard of a rhetorical question? Well what I said is more of a rhetorical statement. I'm not saying that he is actually trying to use these methods to lose the championship.

OK, I gotta ask since no one else has, which set of points rules did you use?

Shirley you know that the points system has changed over the years even before we got the Chase format. And even it is not the same as the 1st year.

<hoping sst55 replies "don't call me shirley..."> :)
